North West fisheries report 2002

This fisheries report summarises developments of the year 2002 in the North West Region of the Environment Agency. The North West region covers around 14,000 square km, from Cheshire in the south to its northern border with Scotland. Reports include migratory fish movements, rod catches, anti poaching, radiotracking,habitat surveys, and restocking. Statistics include rod catches, mortalities, fishery prosecutions, licencing, fish counters, and redd counts.

Report on the 1980/81 angling census in the Sanyati Gorge, Lake Kariba

The angling census carried out in the Sanyati Gorge, August 1980 - March 1981, is reported. The results are compared to those obtained in the 1973 census. The objectives of the census were: 1) to determine the extent of angling mortality on tigerfish (Hydrocynus vittatus) thereby quantifying this previously neglected component of total mortality; and 2) to assess the economic importance of tigerfish to the recreational fishery on Lake Kariba.

Annual report 1986

A report is given of activities conducted by the Lake Kariba Fisheries Research Institute during the year 1986, describing the various conferences and research projects carried out. A list of publications by the Institute is also included.

Annual report 1987

The 1987 Annual Report of the Lake Kariba Fisheries Research Institute details the various research projects conducted during the year, which covered the following topics: ecology of the submerged vascular vegetation; biology and population dynamics of the butter catfish; post-harvest fish technology and management; sardine population structure; and analysis of the inshore fish.

Annual report 1988

The document gives an account of the activities carried out during the year 1988 by the Lake Kariba Fisheries Research Institute and includes individual reports of the various projects conducted during the year. They include: the Zambia/Zimbabwe Lake Kariba Fisheries Research and Development Project; a comparative study of genetic growth determinance of Limnothrissa miodon; a comparative study of consumption rates and preference for some species of aquatic macrophytes by Tilapia rendalli; an evaluation of inshore stocks, and external variables causing variation in composition abundance and distribution; Willards cage-culture pilot project; and, aspects of the ecology of the phytobenthic communities in Lake Kariba - PhD thesis.

Annual report 1989

The report describes the activities of the Institute during the year 1989, which include the following: The Zambia/Zimbabwe Lake Kariba Fisheries Research and Development Project; the pilot cage culture project; cooperative development; an economic evaluation of the Kariba International Tiger Fish Tournament; hydroacoustic surveys in Lake Kariba; and, the age structure and population dynamics of the sardine Limnothrissa miodon in Lake Kariba.

River Wharfe fisheries monitoring report - summer 2001

This is a report on monitoring carried out in 2001 specifically in relation to effects of flows and abstractions on fisheries in the River Wharfe. The monitoring is a continuation of that started in relation to the Time Limited Abstraction Licences in 1996 and required by the new licences granted in 1999. It gives information regarding fish populations at a range of sites in the River Wharfe and also two tributary sites. It also gives recommendations for future investigations in relation to both Time Limited Licences and general broader issues.

River Ure fisheries monitoring report - summer 2001

Fish population studies in the River Ure have continued for their sixth successive year in order to examine and evaluate the effects of low flows and drought conditions particularly in relation to the Time Limited Licence abstraction at Kilgram Bridge, currently granted to Yorkshire Water Services. This monitoring report looks at the different fish populations and growth rates in the main river and tributaries, comparing the results to previous years. The report also looks at the general findings from angling, the medium term drought impacts, the abstraction impacts, and recommendations for investigations for 2002.
