Groundwater in the Rio Claro district is predominantly extracted from low productivity wells on the Itararé Aquifer, from depths greater than 150 m. These factors in conjunction with increasing demand for water supply have stimulated many industries to exploit the Rio Claro Aquifer, constituted by Cenozoic sediments of the Rio Claro Formation, where hydraulic properties are poorly known. For this reason, it is necessary to study the possible vulnerable to contamination punctual locations of the aquifer, in order to enable proper management of these groundwater reserves and to allow continuity of supply. Thus, this study aims to assess the vulnerability to groundwater on contamination Rio Claro Aquifer, punctually in Mandu mining site area, located in the District of Ajapi, Rio Claro - SP, the company which operates and sells industrial sand. The risk of groundwater contamination depends on the relationship between the hydrogeological characteristics of the aquifer layer (vulnerability to contamination) and the pollutant load. To evaluate the susceptibility to contamination it was applied the method GOD (FOSTER and HIRATA, 1987; FOSTER et. al., 2002) and, in addition, field and laboratory tests were performed to chacacterize the granulometry of the strata, hydraulic conductivity and some physical indices to make the evaluation more assertive and detailed. Punctual contamination vulnerability found in the aquifer Rio Claro, was moderate, which means that the aquifer is vulnerable to some contaminants, but when continuously discharged or leached. A biodiversidade pode ser considerada como uma base da existência por proporcionar recursos e regular os processos naturais responsáveis pela manutenção da vida. Nas últimas décadas, a biodiversidade vem sendo perdida rapidamente, apresentando taxas de decréscimo nunca antes vistas, o que reduz a capacidade de aporte de recursos naturais para as gerações futuras. Em relação às estratégias de conservação da biodiversidade, os orgãos ambientais brasileiros têm empreendido diversos esforços na sistematização de dados e informações sobre biomas, ecossistemas e espécies ameaçadas com a finalidade do estabelecimento de indicadores e diretrizes para a conservação da diversidade biológica direcionados à tomada de decisões por parte de gestores públicos e privados, como aquelas que são deflagradas no âmbito dos processos de licenciamento ambiental. Dentre os instrumentos de gestão ambiental, o licencimaneto ambiental é aquele responsável pela autorização da implantação de empreendimentos potencialmente causadores de significativo impacto ambiental, como é o caso de usinas hidrelétricas. Para isso, o licenciamento ambiental deve estar baseado em estudos ambientais realizados a partir dos procedimentos metodológicos de avaliação de impacto ambiental, os quais devem preconizar os aspectos que caracterizam a vulnerabilidade ambiental da localidade geográfica onde está planejado o empreendimento. Neste sentido, o presente trabalho objetivou analisar de que forma os dados, informações, indicadores e diretrizes sobre a diversidade biológica brasileira, produzidos e estabelecidos pelo governo federal estão sendo utilizados no processo de licenciamento ambiental da usina hidrelétrica de Tijuco Alto do rio Ribeira de Iguape.

A todo o momento, pesquisadores de diversas áreas do conhecimento buscam propor novos métodos e procedimentos, contestar teorias atualmente aceitas, descobrir novos ativos e fórmulas ou aprimorar aquelas já existentes. Contudo, para que estas novas proposições sejam aceitas na comunidade cientifica é imprescindível que existam dados que comprovem o estudo realizado. A bioestatística é uma ciência que permite descrever, comparar e fazer inferências a partir destes dados, com certo grau de confiança, tornando uma pesquisa muito mais robusta e confiável. A presente revisão bibliográfica objetiva trazer a bioestatística de uma forma simples, livre da complexidade matemática e com exemplos da biologia, para que qualquer aluno da área de biológicas possa compreender o conteúdo sem grandes dificuldades. O trabalho está basicamente dividido em dois temas: “Estimação de Parâmetros” e “Testes de Hipóteses”, sendo que neste último serão abordados exemplos para os testes paramétricos e não-paramétricos em cada comparação apresentada

Since its discovery, radioactivity has brought numerous benefits to human societies. It has many applications in medicine, serving as a tool for non-invasive methods for diagnosis and therapies against diseases such as cancer. It also applies to technologies for energy in nuclear power plants with relatively low impacts on terms of perfect security. All applications, however, have risks, requiring maximum caution to drive processes and operations involving radioactive elements because, once released into the environment, they have extremely harmful effects on organisms affected. This paper presents fundamental concepts and principles of nuclear physics in order to understand the effects of radioactive elements released into the environment, culminating on the issue of radioactive contamination. Literature review allowed us to understand the radioactive contamination problem on living beings. Three major nuclear accidents have happened in the last thirty years, two of them in consecutive years. The nuclear accident at Chernobyl, Ukraine, in 1986, polluted large areas, condemning hundreds of thousands of people to live with consequences of the accident and effects of radiation, killing thousands of people throughout the years. In 1987, a major radiological accident occurred in Goiania (GO) when a source of radioactive cesium was violated, leading to the death of those who had direct or indirect contact with cesium. The most recent accident, in March, 2011, was located at the nuclear power plant in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, after an earthquake and tsunami hit the region. There is no extensive and accurate knowledge about the consequences of the contamination entailed in that accident, although it is possible to verify signals on a global scale. An analysis of reports of contamination of large areas generated by nuclear plants with release of hazardous wastes suggests it is necessary to rethink the energy matrix of the various countries...

The evaluation of soil permeability throughout the weathering profile is one of the most important features to be considered in environmental studies. This study, developed from field testing and analysis of data obtained by geostatistical methods, aims at mapping the permeability around the Ribeirão Claro river. The intent is to simulate an accident with toxic liquids where soil permeability is of fundamental importance. Another purpose of the research was to determine the minimum time that, in the event of an accident, a possible contaminant to reach the water table level and be routed to the nearest drain, in this case, the Ribeirao V Claro river constitutes fundamental information. The studied area of approximately 4 km² is located within the UNESP-Rio Claro campus, consisting of colluvial soil from Fm. Rio Claro superimposed on residual soil of Fm. Corumbataí. The method used to determine the permeability is the concentric cylinders performed on a sampling grid with 64 points containing spacing of 5 meters EW and 10 meters NS. In the places of permeability tests were collected samples for laboratory determination of the percentage of fines. From particle size analysis was performed and analysis statistical and geostatistical on this data. The histogram was based on the statistical studies, and the semivariograms were based on geostatistical estimation methods. Based on the comparison between the maps and the data obtained, it was determined that the percentage of fines in colluvial surface soil has little influence on permeability, which the proximity to the Ribeirao Claro river, the eastern portion, a factor that influences the distribution of permeability values

This is a floristic survey Celastraceae in the Reserva Biológica Municipal da Serra do Japi, Jundiaí, SP. It belongs to a major project “Florística vascular da Reserva Biológica Municipal da Serra do Japi, Jundiaí, SP”, in order to create a floristic list of the collected species, likewise to obtain new data for future managements. Seven species, belonging to four genera, were collected: Maytenus, with four species, Hippocratea, Peritassa and Pristimera, with one species each. Identification keys for genera and species, descriptions, illustrations and comments about geographical distributions, fenology and diagnosis characters are provided

A análise estatística multivariada, extensão da análise univariada, consiste num conjunto de técnicas estatísticas, aplicadas quando há diversas variáveis relacionadas simultaneamente, sendo todas elas, em princípio, consideradas importantes no fenômeno em estudo. É de grande aplicação a conjuntos de dados das mais diversas áreas do conhecimento, principalmente da área biológica. Seu desenvolvimento teve um grande impulso na primeira metade do século passado. Entretanto, devido a complexidade dos cálculos matemáticos, principalmente envolvendo operações com matrizes de altas ordens, as aplicações somente se popularizaram nos dias atuais, com o desenvolvimento dos computadores e aplicativos computacionais. Técnicas estudadas: distâncias multivariadas, componentes principais, análise fatorial, correlações canônicas, análise de correspondência, teste t² de Hotelling, análise de variância multivariada (Manova), teste de normalidade multivariada, igualdade de matrizes de variâncias e covariâncias para populações multinormais

Geophysics studies in areas impacted by petroleum derivatives describe abnormalities of both low and high electrical resistivity (the opposite of electrical conductivity), confirmed as contaminant phase by chemical analysis: this contradiction can be explained by degrading processes that naturally occur and create sub products that can change the environment conductivity. Monitoring the variation of the parameters mentioned serves as a comparative basis to the variation in geoelectrical parameters, which identified the correlation between the same contaminant parameters and the difference between their behavior studied apart, as well as its relations with the biodegradation process. The results are applied to the fuel distribution and storage sectors, leading to the diagnosis and monitoring of possible groundwater contamination scenarios, and the knowledge of the area exposure time to the contaminant, besides the better remediation alternative and impacts control. Among some conclusions, the most significant are the decrease in conductivity over time, so as the increase in Eh value in the gasoline contaminated tank, as well as the decrease in the pH value in the second tank with ethanol, which can be attributed to its degradation. Comparing the variations in both tanks, it is evident that Eh, pH and electrical conductivity do not behave temporally in a similar way, although some correlations between Eh and pH can be related.
