La Incidencia de la helada de 1956 en el olivar de Navata (Alt Empordà, Girona)

In the region of Alt Empordà (Girona), olive groves historically shaped a landscape of high economic value, cultural and environmental although since mid-twentieth century is in sharp decline. One of the municipalities located on the edge of the plana altoampurdanesa that best exemplify this process of abandonment and near disappearance of that crop is Navata. This article analyzes the changes in the olive grove of this municipality in the period 1957-2004, both through the development of mapping land use and land cover level of detail as the analysis of data sources and oral exercise that makes emphasizes the loss of 90% of the existing olive grove in the middle of last century. The frost of February of 1956 was one of the main causes, but not unique. However, both the importance of the olive groves as an identity and conservation of biodiversity as the differential nature of the oil obtained from varieties natives to the area (especially argudell), justify the need to promote policies that will help your recovery

Antecedentes de los grandes proyectos de irrigación en el llanto del Alto Ampurdán. La opción fracasada de los grandes regadíos catalanes del siglo XIX

Durante el siglo XIX se ejecutan en Catalunya proyectos de grandes regadíos en las tierras con mejores aptitudes para ello, como son las de la Depresión Central leridana, las del delta del Ebro o las del Bajo Llobregat. La excepción será la llanura del Ampurdán, concretamente, su mitad norte. No obstante, la profusión de intentos es elevada, aunque ninguno dará resultados prácticos hasta los años 60 del siglo XX. Esto ha reforzado su desconocimiento y, mediante el artículo, se quiere paliar este déficit. En primer lugar, se repasan algunos de los viajeros y eruditos que, entre los siglos XVII y XIX, facilitaron datos sobre los riegos existentes y algunas propuestas para mejorarlos. A continuación se analizarán los tres intentos más significativos para ampliarlos durante la segunda mitad del XIX. Se abordarán sus objetivos, sus peculiaridades, sus promotores, los discursos que los justificaron y los motivos de su fracaso

Una aproximació a l’impuls econòmic de la Universitat de Girona sobre l’entorn local

Des d’una perspectiva econòmica, les institucions universitàries es poden concebre com a gestores del coneixement: organitzacions que utilitzen recursos (inputs) per generar i transferir coneixements (outputs). Aquest enfocament permet sintetitzar dos efectes econòmics que afecten el territori. En primer lloc, la gestió del coneixement esdevé un factor vital per a la competitivitat del territori. El coneixement afecta tant el sistema productiu local (ja que les bases del creixement econòmic incideixen sobre la productivitat) com l’eficiència actuali futura de les organitzacions locals (ja que actua com a element d’atracció, de creació i de manteniment d’activitats econòmiques). En segon lloc, l’activitat universitària afecta directament i indirectament la demanda locali estimula la producció de béns i de serveis locals. La universitat actua, doncs, de motor arrossegador del’economia local, ja que repercuteix sobre el nivell de riquesa i d’ocupació del territori on es troba ubicada. Demanera semblant a altres universitats catalanes (universitats de Lleida, Rovira i Virgili i de Vic), aquest treballvalora l’impacte de la Universitat de Girona (UdG) en l’economia de l’entorn. L’aproximació es fa des de duesvessants. D’una banda, s���utilitza la metodologia input-output per valorar l’impacte econòmic de la demandagenerada sobre el territori gironí. De l’altra, mitjançant un seguit d’indicadors, es mesura la sortida produïdaper la UdG i es contextualitza en el marc espanyol i de les comarques gironines

Este artículo propone el enfoque contextual como nuevo marco de estudio de las inundaciones históricas. El enfoque contextual tiene su origen en la reflexión geográfica sobre los riesgos naturales iniciada en la escuela geográfica norteamericana hace ya más de medio siglo y pone especial énfasis en la dimensión humana de estos fenómenos definida geográfica e históricamente, sin olvidar los aspectos físicos de las inundaciones en el territorio objeto de estudio. En una primera parte del presente artículo se describen los niveles de análisis y componentes que componen el estudio de las inundaciones histórica5 desde el enfoque contextual. La segunda parte es una aplicación del enfoque contextual al caso de la ciudad de Girona
