Integrable hierarchy for multidimensional Toda equations and topological-anti-topological fusion

The negative symmetry flows are incorporated into the Riemann-Hilbert problem for the homogeneous A(m)-hierarchy and its (gl) over cap (m + 1, C) extension.A loop group automorphism of order two is used to define a sub-hierarchy of (gl) over cap (m + 1, C) hierarchy containing only the odd symmetry flows. The positive and negative flows of the +/-1 grade coincide with equations of the multidimensional Toda model and of topological-anti-topological fusion. (C) 2002 Elsevier B.V. B.V. Robust CERN LHC Higgs boson search in weak boson fusion

We demonstrate that a CERN LHC Higgs boson search in weak boson fusion production with subsequent decay to weak boson pairs is robust against extensions of the standard model or minimal supersymmetric standard model involving a large number of Higgs doublets. We also show that the transverse mass distribution provides unambiguous discrimination of a continuum Higgs signal from the standard model.

Modelling an expert GIS system based on knowledge to evaluate oil spill environmental sensitivity

Oil spills cause great damage to coastal habitats, especially when rapid and suitable response measures are not taken. Establishing high priority areas is fundamental for the operation of response teams. Under this context and considering the need for keeping all geographical information up-to-date for emergencial use, the present study proposes employing a decision tree coupled with a knowledge-based approach using GIS to assign oil sensitivity indices to Brazilian coastal habitats. The modelled system works based on rules set by the official standards of Brazilian Federal Environment Organ. We tested it on one of the littoral regions of Brazil where transportation of petroleum is most intense: the coast of the municipalities of Sao Sebastiao and Caraguatatuba in the northern littoral of São Paulo state, Brazil. The system automatically ranked the littoral sensitivity index of the study area habitats according to geographical conditions during summer and winter; since index ranks of some habitats varied between these seasons because of sediment alterations. The obtained results illustrate the great potential of the proposed system in generating ESI maps and in aiding response teams during emergency operations. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. NONLOCAL EFFECTS IN THE NUCLEUS-NUCLEUS FUSION CROSS-SECTION

Effects of the nonlocality of factorizable potentials are taken into account in the calculation of nucleus-nucleus fusion cross section through an effective mass approach. This cross section makes use of the tunneling factor calculated for the nonlocal barrier, without the explicit introduction of any result coming from coupled channel calculation, besides the approximations of Hill-Wheeler and Wong. Its new expression embodies the nonlocal effects in a factor which redefines the local potential barrier curvature. Applications to different systems, namely O-16 + Co-59, O-16,O-18 + Ni-58,Ni-60,Ni-64, and O-16,O-18 + Cu-63,Cu-65 are presented, where the nonlocal range is treated as a free parameter.

An extended query-the-user tool for expert systems

An extended version of HIER, a query-the-user facility for expert systems is presented. HIER was developed to run over Prolog programs, and has been incorporated to systems that support the design of large and complex applications. The framework of the extended version is described,; as well as the major features of the implementation. An example is included to illustrate the use of the tool, involving the design of a specific database application.
