In recent future, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) will experience a broad high-scale deployment (millions of nodes in the national area) with multiple information sources per node, and with very specific requirements for signal processing. In parallel, the broad range deployment of WSNs facilitates the definition and execution of ambitious studies, with a large input data set and high computational complexity. These computation resources, very often heterogeneous and driven on-demand, can only be satisfied by high-performance Data Centers (DCs). The high economical and environmental impact of the energy consumption in DCs requires aggressive energy optimization policies. These policies have been already detected but not successfully proposed. In this context, this paper shows the following on-going research lines and obtained results. In the field of WSNs: energy optimization in the processing nodes from different abstraction levels, including reconfigurable application specific architectures, efficient customization of the memory hierarchy, energy-aware management of the wireless interface, and design automation for signal processing applications. In the field of DCs: energy-optimal workload assignment policies in heterogeneous DCs, resource management policies with energy consciousness, and efficient cooling mechanisms that will cooperate in the minimization of the electricity bill of the DCs that process the data provided by the WSNs.

ABSTRACT This investigation is a contribution to the scientific knowledge of the Phyllum Ascomycetos and Basidiomycetos mushrooms in the Amazonian department Madre de Dios (Peru). The study was carried out from 2006 till 2014, during which forest study paths were crossed in six areas were all types of found carpophores were collected and photographed. In order to identify the Phylum Basidiomycetos and Ascomycetos species, an intensive biographical review was carried out and photographs were taken from the spores in case it was possible to assist the identification. Samples were collected in six areas with different human intervention and forest types so that any significant difference in the species´ composition could be analyzed between these different zones and between the species specific area. The samples were searched and collected during two different seasons (dry and rainy season) to analyze if this climatologically factor affects the number of found species. In total 70 species were completely identified, belonging to 25 families. The most representative families were the Xylariaceae for the Phyllum Ascomycetos and the Polyporaceae in the case of the Phyllum Basidiomycetos. Of all the identified species, 23 are considered edible, thirteen are identified as medicinal, and two are known for psychedelic and religious practices, two are toxic, two are mycorrhizal species and of 30 species the use is unknown to science. Five species are newly registered for Peru, Moreover, six species of the Auricularia sp. and Pleurotus sp. gender were identified as promising species for cultivation to serve auto consumption and possibly small and large scale commercialization. These species transform lignocelular waste in food. Part of this study was the development of a field guide to identify mushrooms and which can be used to open doors to our biodiversity for multiple interests such as scientific, gastronomy, and tourism.

Ecological work carried out on the Antarctic and Magellan shelves since the first IBMANT conference held at the UMAG, Punta Arenas in 1997 is summarized to identify areas where progress has been made and others, where impor- tant gaps have remained in understanding past and present interaction between the Antarctic and the southern tip of South America. This information is complementary to a review on shallow-water work along the Scotia Arc (Barnes, 2005) and recent work done in the deep sea (Brandt and Hilbig, 2004). While principally referring to shipboard work in deeper water, above all during the recent international EASIZ and LAMPOS campaigns, relevant work from shore stations is also included. Six years after the first IBMANT symposium, significant progress has been made along the latitudinal gradient from the Magellan region to the high Antarctic in the fields of biodiversity, biogeography and community structure, life strategies and adaptations, the role of disturbance and its significance for biodiversity, and trophic coupling of the benthic realm with the water column and sea ice. A better understanding has developed of the role of evolutionary and ecological factors in shaping past and present-day environmental conditions, species composition and distribution, and ecosystem functioning. Furthermore, the science community engaged in unravelling Antarctic-Magellan interactions has advanced in methodological aspects such as new analytical approaches for comparing biodiversity derived from visual methods, growth and age determination, trophic modelling using stable isotope ratios, and molecular approaches for taxonomic and phylogenetic purposes. At the same time, much effort has been invested to complement the species inventory of the two adjacent regions. However, much work remains to be done to fill the numerous gaps. Some perspectives are outlined in this review, and sug- gestions are made where particular emphasis should be placed in future work, much of which will be developed in the frame of SCAR's EBA (Evolution and Biodiversity in the Antarctic) programme.
