When it comes to oil and gas in Brazil is almost certain that we are referring to activities in deep waters off the coast of Campos, Rio de Janeiro, the main field of action of PETROBRAS and a small number of multinational oil companies . Since the Law 9.478/97 allows, by means of concessions, that other companies other than Petrobras, to explore and produce oil and gas domestically. Soon it moved, then the private companies that want small and medium-sized businesses to invest in such activities, forming a segment of independent producers, as occurs in other countries. In this context, this work aims at making an economic feasibility study, is currently analyzing how this thread and focus on the factors that contribute to its development as well as those that constitute barriers. To this end, we conducted a survey examining some mature fields that are in production in order to capture cost information in the phases of project, operation and abandonment. The work also presents an analysis of the results obtained in the survey, identifying the costs higher. With the results obtained through the study used economic engineering tools such as NPV and IRR, using a variety of design scenarios, to study the economic viability of these fields. In scenario 4 was set a production of 4.0 m³ / d of oil, which is an expected average production for several of these fields, whose minimum value of a barrel of oil, to enable this field, was $ 55.00, this value well below what was being practiced in the market today.

Selon la philosophie de Katz et Sarnak, la distribution des zéros des fonctions $L$ est prédite par le comportement des valeurs propres de matrices aléatoires. The high velocity of free atoms associated with the thermal motion, together with the velocity distribution of atoms has imposed the ultimate limitation on the precision of ultrahigh resolution spectroscopy. A sample consisting of low velocity atoms would provide a substantial improvement in spectroscopy resolution. To overcome the problem of thermal motion, atomic physicists have pursued two goals; first, the reduction of the thermal motion (cooling); and second, the confinement of the atoms by means of electromagnetic fields (trapping). Cooling carried sufficiently far, eliminates the motional problems, whereas trapping allows for long observation times. In this work the laser cooling and trapping of an argon atomic beam will be discussed. The experiments involve a time-of-flight spectroscopy on metastable argon atoms. Laser deceleration or cooling of atoms is achieved by counter propagating a photon against an atomic beam of metastable atoms. The solution to the Doppler shift problem is achieved using spatially varying magnetic field along the beam path to Zeeman shift the atomic resonance frequency so as to keep the atoms in resonance with a fixed frequency cooling laser. For trapping experiments a Magnetooptical trap (MOT) will be used. The MOT is formed by three pairs of counter-propagating laser beams with mutual opposite circular polarization and a frequency tuned slightly below the center of the atomic resonance and superimposed on a magnetic quadrupole field.

Purpose – The paper examines from a practitioner’s perspective the European Quality in Social Services (EQUASS) Assurance standard, a certification programme for European social service organisations to implement a sector-specific Quality Management System. In particular, it analyses the adoption motives, the internalisation of the standard, the impacts, the satisfaction and the renew intentions. Design/methodology/approach – This study uses a cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey methodology. From the 381 organisations emailed, 196 responses coming from eight different European countries were considered valid (51.4%). Data from closed-ended questions were analysed using simple descriptive statistical techniques. Content analysis was employed to analyse practitioner’s comments to open-ended questions. Findings – It shows that social service providers typically implement the certification for internal reasons, and internalise EQUASS principles and practices in daily usage. EQUASS Assurance produces benefits mainly at the operational and customer levels, whereas its main pitfalls include increased workload and bureaucracy. The majority of respondents (85.2%) are very satisfied or satisfied with the certification, suggesting that it meets their expectations. Certification renewal intentions are also high but some respondents report that the final decision depends on several factors. The insights gained through the qualitative data are also described. Practical implications – It can be helpful to managers, consultants and Local License Holders working (or planning to work) with this standard. It can inform the work of the EQUASS Technical Working Group in the forthcoming revision of the standard. Originality/value – This is the largest survey conducted so far about EQUASS Assurance in terms of number of respondents, participating countries and topics covered.

Nanofibrous membranes are a promising material for tailoring the properties of laminated CFRP composites by embedding them into the structure. This project aimed to understand the effect of number, position and thickness of nanofibrous modifications specifically on the damping behaviour of the resulting nano-modified CFRP composite with an epoxy matrix. An improvement of damping capacity is expected to improve a composites lifetime and fatigue resistance by prohibiting the formation of microcracks and consequently hindering delamination, it also promises a rise in comfort for a range of final products by intermission of vibration propagation and therefore diminution of noise. Electrospinning was the technique employed to produce nanofibrous membranes from a blend of polymeric solutions. SEM, WAXS and DSC were utilised to evaluate the quality of the obtained membranes before they were introduced, following a specific stacking sequence, in the production process of the laminate. A suitable curing cycle in an autoclave was applied to mend the modifications together with the matrix material, ensuring full crosslinking of the matrix and therefore finalising the production process. DMA was exercised in order to gain an understanding about the effects of the different modifications on the properties of the composite. During this investigation it became apparent that a high number of modifications of laminate CFRP composites, with an epoxy matrix, with thick rubbery nanofibrous membranes has a positive effect on the damping capacity and the temperature range the effect applies in. A suggestion for subsequent studies as well as a recommendation for the production of nano-modified CFRP structures is included at the end of this document.

In this thesis, we aim to discuss a simple mathematical model for the edge detection mechanism and the boundary completion problem in the human brain in a differential geometry framework. We describe the columnar structure of the primary visual cortex as the fiber bundle R2 × S1, the orientation bundle, and by introducing a first vector field on it, explain the edge detection process. Edges are detected through a lift from the domain in R2 into the manifold R2 × S1 and are horizontal to a completely non-integrable distribution. Therefore, we can construct a subriemannian structure on the manifold R2 × S1, through which we retrieve perceived smooth contours as subriemannian geodesics, solutions to Hamilton’s equations. To do so, in the first chapter, we illustrate the functioning of the most fundamental structures of the early visual system in the brain, from the retina to the primary visual cortex. We proceed with introducing the necessary concepts of differential and subriemannian geometry in chapters two and three. We finally implement our model in chapter four, where we conclude, comparing our results with the experimental findings of Heyes, Fields, and Hess on the existence of an association field.

Remote sensing data are each time more available and can be used to monitor the vegetal development of main agricultural crops, such as the Arabic coffee in Brazil, since that the relationship between spectral and agronomical data be well known. Therefore, this work had the main objective to assess the use of Quickbird satellite images to estimate biophysical parameters of coffee crop. Test area was composed by 25 coffee fields located between the cities of Ribeirão Corrente, Franca and Cristais Paulista (SP), Brazil, and the biophysical parameters used were row and between plants spacing, plant height, LAI, canopy diameter, percentage of vegetation cover, roughness and biomass. Spectral data were the reflectance of four bands of QUICKBIRD and values of four vegetations indexes (NDVI, GVI, SAVI and RVI) based on the same satellite. All these data were analyzed using linear and nonlinear regression methods to generate estimation models of biophysical parameters. The use of regression models based on nonlinear equations was more appropriate to estimate parameters such as the LAI and the percentage of biomass, important to indicate the productivity of coffee crop.

We analyze the breaking of Lorentz invariance in a 3D model of fermion fields self-coupled through four-fermion interactions. The low-energy limit of the theory contains various submodels which are similar to those used in the study of graphene or in the description of irrational charge fractionalization.

The nonlinear regime of low-temperature magnetoresistance of double quantum wells in the region of magnetic fields below 1 T is studied both experimentally and theoretically. The observed inversion of the magnetointersubband oscillation peaks with increasing electric current and splitting of these peaks are described by the theory based on the kinetic equation for the isotropic nonequilibrium part of electron distribution function. The inelastic-scattering time of electrons is determined from the current dependence of the inversion field.

Quantum field theory with an external background can be considered as a consistent model only if backreaction is relatively small with respect to the background. To find the corresponding consistency restrictions on an external electric field and its duration in QED and QCD, we analyze the mean-energy density of quantized fields for an arbitrary constant electric field E, acting during a large but finite time T. Using the corresponding asymptotics with respect to the dimensionless parameter eET(2), one can see that the leading contributions to the energy are due to the creation of particles by the electric field. Assuming that these contributions are small in comparison with the energy density of the electric background, we establish the above-mentioned restrictions, which determine, in fact, the time scales from above of depletion of an electric field due to the backreaction.
