«Où, quand, et comment ?» : Évolution des conduites agressives en football et en hockey sur glace

RésuméCette étude a pour objectif d'observer l'évolution des actes agressifs dans deux sports d'équipes en fonction de facteurs situationnels (périodes de jeu, lieu de la faute, état du score) et du type d'agressions (instrumentales, hostile). 60 matchs professionnels de football et de hockey sur glace ont été filmés puis analysés à l'aide de grilles d'observation différenciant les deux types d'agressions. Les résultats révèlent que dans ces deux sports, les agressions instrumentales sont plus fréquentes dans les zones importantes du terrain (milieu ou défense) ou lorsque le score est serré. En revanche, les agressions hostiles ne varient pas (ou peu) selon ces facteurs. Les résultats sont discutés au regard de la théorie de l'apprentissage social et de l'hypothèse frustration-agression.AbstractThis study aims at examining observed aggression in two team sports as a function of situational triggers (periods, zones of field, games score) and of type of aggression (instrumental, hostile). 60 soccer and ice hockey games were recorded and analyzed using a grid that differentiates the two types of aggression. The results revealed that theses two sports, instrumental aggressions were more frequent in important zones of field (neutral or defensive ones) and in tied score situations. However, no difference was found for hostile aggression according to these factors. The discussion focused on the social learning theory and frustration-aggression hypothesis.

Studies about the atomic capabilities concept for linear control systems in physical multi-agent environments

This paper shows the impact of the atomic capabilities concept to include control-oriented knowledge of linear control systems in the decisions making structure of physical agents. These agents operate in a real environment managing physical objects (e.g. their physical bodies) in coordinated tasks. This approach is presented using an introspective reasoning approach and control theory based on the specific tasks of passing a ball and executing the offside manoeuvre between physical agents in the robotic soccer testbed. Experimental results and conclusions are presented, emphasising the advantages of our approach that improve the multi-agent performance in cooperative systems

El Cru són les formes d'expressió de procedència no professional que combinen so i imatge en moviment i que, a partir de principis de la dècada dels 90 del sègle XX i pel context històric de l'època, estan a l'abast d'una part significativa i creixent de la població mundial, amb una també creixent potencialitat de difusió massiva a escala planetària, el que dota al conjunt d'una visibilitat en augment en la societat i el torna, en conseqüència, un referent ineludible. Erigit el Cru com un referent cada vegada més important en la nostre societat, trobem lògic pensar que el cinema realitzat per a la seva projecció a sales d'exhibició, hagi pogut veure-s'hi influenciat. El present treball de recerca pretén demostrar i analitzar aquesta influència del Cru en el cinema del canvi de mil•lenni

Anti-doping testing at the 2008 European football championship.

Big sports events like the 2008 European Football Championship are a challenge for anti-doping activities, particularly when the sports event is hosted by two different countries and there are two laboratories accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. This challenges the logistics of sample collection as well as the chemical analyses, which must be carried out timeously. The following paper discusses the handling of whereabouts information for each athlete and the therapeutic use exemption system, experiences in sample collection and transportation of blood and urine samples, and the results of the chemical analysis in two different accredited laboratories. An overview of the analytical results of blood profiling and growth hormone testing in comparison with the distribution of the normal population is also presented.

Triade de la femme sportive [Female athlete triad]

The practitioner, as well as specialist such as gynecologist and endocrinologist, may face in their office women with eating disorders, abnormalities of menstrual cycles and low bone mass, which may be the first hints of the female athlete triad. In these situations, the practitioner may search other findings of these triad by looking at some particular physical findings and by using appropriate questionnaire. In some advanced forms of this triad specific abnormalities of eating disorders (anorexia and boulimia) may be present as well as amenorrhea and osteoporosis, which may disturb the well-being and cause health damages of women practising sport either as amateur or in a elite setting. An appropriate handling of such disorders has to be proposed to these women.

Projecte de reg i drenatge de camp de futbol de gespa natural

L’objectiu del projecte és la construcció d’unes noves instal•lacions esportives per a la pràctica del futbol a Castellfollit de la Roca degut a laprecarietat de l’actual camp de futbol. Inicialment s’ha realitzat un replantejament de la zona retirant una primera capa de restes vegetals per tal de deixar la nova parcel•la neta i llisa. No ha estat necessari anivellar el terreny ja que la parcel•la presentava una topografia gairebé plana, amb un pendent del 0,55%. A continuació s’ha realitzar el moviment de terres per extraure una capa de 0,75 metres de les àrees on es crearan els dos camps de futbol, ja que el terreny d’un camp de futbol és un sòl creat a base de capes de graves i sorres. Tot seguit s’ha dimensionat el drenatge, aquest s’ha realitzat suposant que s’ha d’evacuar la pluja màxima caiguda en dues hores per un període de retorn de 5 anys. A partir d’aquí s’ha decidit que aquesta aigua s’havia d’evacuar per dues vies, per drenatge superficial i per drenatge subterrani

Double-bundle transtibial posterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with a tendon-patellar bone-semitendinosus tendon autograft: clinical results with a minimum of 2 years' follow-up.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and subjective outcomes after arthroscopic-assisted double-bundle posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction. METHODS: A series of 15 patients with grade III isolated chronic PCL tears underwent double-bundle PCL reconstruction. Of these patients, 8 (53%) had simultaneous fractures. The mean time from accident to surgery was 10.8 months (range, 8 to 15 months). The mean age at the time of surgery was 28.2 years (range, 17 to 43 years). All of the patients reported knee insecurity during activities of daily living or light sporting activities, with associated anterior knee pain in 5 patients. Preoperatively, posterolateral or posteromedial corner injuries were ruled out through accurate clinical examination. The knees were assessed before surgery and at a mean follow-up of 3.2 years (range, 2 to 5 years) with a physical examination, 4 different rating scales, and stress radiographs obtained with a Telos device (Telos, Marburg, Germany). RESULTS: Postoperative physical examination revealed a reduction of the posterior drawer and tibial step-off in all cases, although the posterior laxity was not completely normalized. Nevertheless, the patients were subjectively better after surgery. The subjective International Knee Documentation Committee score was significantly ameliorated. With regard to the objective International Knee Documentation Committee score, 6 knees (40%) were graded as abnormal because of posterior displacement of 6 mm or greater on follow-up stress radiographs with the Telos device. On the Lysholm knee scoring scale, the score was excellent in 13% of patients and good in 87%. The mean score on the Hospital for Special Surgery knee ligament rating scale was 85.8. The Tegner activity score showed an amelioration after surgery, but no patient resumed his or her preinjury level of activities. The postoperative stress radiographs revealed an improvement in posterior instability of 50% or more in all but 3 knees (20%). CONCLUSIONS: Our technique of double-bundle PCL reconstruction produced a significant reduction in knee symptoms and allowed the patients to return to moderate or strenuous activity, although the posterior tibial translation was not completely normalized and our results appear to be no better than the results of single-bundle PCL reconstruction. Psychological pressure in competitive environments: Evidence from a randomized natural experiment

Much like cognitive abilities, emotional skills can have major effects on performance and economic outcomes. This paper studies the behavior of professionalsubjects involved in a dynamic competition in their own natural environment. Thesetting is a penalty shoot-out in soccer where two teams compete in a tournamentframework taking turns in a sequence of five penalty kicks each. As the kicking order is determined by the random outcome of a coin flip, the treatment and control groups are determined via explicit randomization. Therefore, absent any psychological effects, both teams should have the same probability of winning regardless of the kicking order. Yet, we find a systematic first-kicker advantage. Using data on 2,731 penalty kicks from 262 shoot-outs for a three decade period, we find that teams kicking first win the penalty shoot-out 60.5% of the time. A dynamic panel data analysis shows that the psychological mechanism underlying this result arises from the asymmetry in the partial score. As most kicks are scored, kicking first typically means having the opportunity to lead in the partial score, whereas kicking second typically means lagging in the score and having the opportunity to, at most, get even. Having a worse prospect than the opponent hinders subjects' performance.Further, we also find that professionals are self-aware of their own psychological effects. When a recent change in regulations gives winners of the coin toss the chance to choose the kicking order, they rationally react to it by systematically choosing to kick first. A survey of professional players reveals that when asked to explain why they prefer to kick first, they precisely identify the psychological mechanism for which we find empirical support in the data: they want to lead in the score inorder to put pressure on the opponent.

Física i esport: estudi d'un moviment real mitjançant vídeo

Treball de recerca realitzat per alumnes d’ensenyament secundari i guardonat amb un Premi CIRIT per fomentar l'esperit científic del Jovent l’any 2010. L’objectiu inicial ha estat l'anàlisi mitjançant una càmera de vídeo d'un moviment parabòlic real, un salt de longitud, per intentar combinar física i esport. Però, com quasi sempre quan un investiga de forma rigorosa i atenta, es va obrir una porta, un nou objectiu. La comparació entre salts d'un amateur i uns professionals ens va permetre descobrir la tècnica dels saltadors, que d'altra banda complicava el moviment. El descobriment que amb una petita implementació tècnica podíem millorar la marca de salt va reorientar el treball i li va donar la vessant esportiva desitjada. S’ha seguit una metodologia d'observació i anàlisi experimental i d'aplicació del coneixement fent servir una tècnica, encara que no nova, poc utilitzada en treballs d'aquests nivells, el tractament de vídeos com a sensors cinemàtics. A través del processament fotograma a fotograma amb el software MultiLab s'han pogut identificar les variables involucrades en l'optimització del salt; s'han comparat les evolucions en els diferents salts i s'ha après d'aquest anàlisi per aplicar-ho a la millora. No cal oblidar una primera recerca documental, incloses les entrevistes a professionals.

Disseny d’un sistema d’entrenament per l’escalada

El projecte proposa un sistema d’entrenament per l’escalada, donant noves solucions adaptades a les noves tendències socials i de mercat. La millora en la comunicació usuari-producte i el seguiment del progrés en l’entrenament són les bases d’aquest projecte, entorn a les quals giren totes les solucions plantejades. Donat l’increment exponencial dels usuaris de sales d’entrenament i aficionats a l’escalada en els últims deu anys, on m’incloc, aquest projecte pretén donar una nova visió més real de l’entrenament, plantejant un producte versàtil i canviant, el qual s’adequa a les necessitats concretes de cada usuari, a l’hora que proposa diferents muntatges segons les possibilitats de l’espai d’instal·lació. L’interès personal per l’escalada i l’experiència durants els últims anys en sales d’entrenament m’han fet plantejar-me la funció de diferents elements dins d’aquests espais. L’ús de noves tecnologies i de sistemes de programació específics donen a l’usuari l’oportunitat d’endinsar-se en tota una experiència diferent d’entrenament, on pot dissenyar el seu propi pla, tenir un seguiment estadístic de la seva evolució i ser partícip d’una xarxa social de contactes, recomanacions, actualitzacions d’exercicis i plantejament de nous reptes. Naixent les sales d’entrenament a la dècada dels seixanta, avui dia són més de 40 les empreses dedicades a la producció i fabricació de material per elles. Només un 11% inverteixen en innovació i disseny i, tot i així, els resultats, en la majoria dels casos, no es desmarquen gaire d’allò que ja existeix. Amb aquest projecte es vol obrir un nou paradigma en el sector, donar la volta a allò existent i mostrar que fent un bon estudi de necessitats es poden plantejar solucions molt més reals, adaptables i personalitzables.

Determination of testosterone misuse in sport, an international comparative study

Introduction: Urinary steroid profiling is used in doping controls to detect testosterone abuse. A testosterone over epitestosterone (T/E) ratio exceeding 4.0 is considered as suspicious of testosterone administration, irrespectively of individual heterogeneous factors such as the athlete's ethnicity. A deletion polymorphism in the UGT2B17 gene was demonstrated to account for a significant part of the inter-individual variability in the T/E between Caucasians and Asians. However, the anti-doping strategy includes the determination of carbon isotope ratio on androgen metabolites which has been demonstrated to be reliable for the direct detection of testosterone misuse. Herein, we examined the profiles and the variability in the 13C/12Cratios of urinary steroids in a widely heterogeneous cohort of professional soccer players residing in different world countries (Argentina, Italy, Japan, South-Africa, Switzerland and Uganda). Aim: The determination of threshold values based on genotype information and diet specific of the ethnicity is expected to enhance significantly the detection of testosterone misuse. Methods: The steroid profile of 57 Africans, 32 Asians, 50 Caucasians and 32 Hispanics was determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The carbon isotope ratio of selected androgens in urine specimens were determined by means of gas chromatography/combustion/isotope ratio mass spectrometry (GC-C-IRMS). Results: Significant differences have been observed between all ethnic groups. After estimation of the prevalence of the UGT2B17 deletion/deletion genotype (African:22%; Asian:81%; Caucasian:10%; Hispanic:7%), ethnicspecific thresholds were developed for a specificity of 99% for the T/E (African:5.6; Asian:3.8; Caucasian:5.7; Hispanic:5.8). Italian and Swiss populations recorded an enrichment in 13C of the urinary steroids with respect to the other groups, thereby supporting consumption of a relatively larger proportion of C3 plants in their diet. Noteworthy, detection criteria based on the difference in the carbon isotope ratio of androsterone and pregnanediol for each population were well below the established threshold value for positive cases. Conclusion: These profiling results demonstrate that a unique and nonspecific threshold to evidence testosterone misuse is not fit for purpose. In addition, the carbon isotopic ratio from these different diet groups highlight the importance to adapt the criteria for increasing the sensitivity in the detection of exogenous testosterone. In conclusion, it may be emphasized that combining the use of isotope ratio mass spectrometry including refined interpretation criteria for positivity and the subject-based profiling of steroids will most probably improve the efficiency of the confirmatory test.

Los resultados sugieren que la clasificación FIFA de las selecciones nacionales se puede utilizar para complementar nuestra comprensión del desarrollo multidimensional en aquellos países donde la disponibilidad de la información no es tan buena como los investigadores quisieran.
