We consider the distribution of cross sections of clusters and the density-density correlation functions for the A+B¿0 reaction. We solve the reaction-diffusion equations numerically for random initial distributions of reactants. When both reactant species have the same diffusion coefficients the distribution of cross sections and the correlation functions scale with the diffusion length and obey superuniversal laws (independent of dimension). For different diffusion coefficients the correlation functions still scale, but the scaling functions depend on the dimension and on the diffusion coefficients. Furthermore, we display explicitly the peculiarities of the cluster-size distribution in one dimension.

A pacemaker, regularly emitting chemical waves, is created out of noise when an excitable photosensitive Belousov-Zhabotinsky medium, strictly unable to autonomously initiate autowaves, is forced with a spatiotemporal patterned random illumination. These experimental observations are also reproduced numerically by using a set of reaction-diffusion equations for an activator-inhibitor model, and further analytically interpreted in terms of genuine coupling effects arising from parametric fluctuations. Within the same framework we also address situations of noise-sustained propagation in subexcitable media.

This document summarizes the available evidence and provides recommendations on the use of home blood pressure monitoring in clinical practice and in research. It updates the previous recommendations on the same topic issued in year 2000. The main topics addressed include the methodology of home blood pressure monitoring, its diagnostic and therapeutic thresholds, its clinical applications in hypertension, with specific reference to special populations, and its applications in research. The final section deals with the problems related to the implementation of these recommendations in clinical practice.

Goal: To validate oral vatgancictovir (VGC) in the prophylaxis of CMV infection in Lung (Lu) and Liver (L) recipients and in the treatment of CMV infection/disease in solid organ transplant recipients, using pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies in comparison with i/v gancicLovir (GCV). Methods: patients undergoing organ transpLantation donor or recipient CMV-seropositive receiving VGC prophylaxis for a period of 3 months (D+/R- Lung recipients, 6 months) were enroLLed. Heart (H), Lu, and L recipients received 900mg VGC q.d., adjusted to kidney (K) function. No K recipients received more than 450mg of VGC q.d. GCV trough (Ctrough) and peak (Cpeak = 3 hours after drug administration) LeveLs, and CMV DNA were measured at 7, 30, and 60 days post-transpLant (prophyLactic study). Patients who developed CMV infection/disease after stopping prophylaxis were treated with VGC (1800mg per day adjusted to K function and GCV blood LeveLs). GCV trough and peak LeveLs, and CMV DNA were measured weekly for the first 3 weeks and biweekly thereafter, until therapy cessation (therapeutic study). PLasma concentration of GCV is measured by HPLC. Results: In the first 8 prophyLaxed patients (6 K, and 1 L and 1 H transplant recipient) of 450mg VGC q.d., the average GCV concentration was 0.5±0.3 mg/t at trough, and 3.9±l.0mg/t 3 hours after administration. Inter-patient variability was substantiaL, especiaLLy for Ctrough (63% of total variance), which correlated with the patient's estimated gtomerutar filtration rate (r square = 42%). No CMV DNA was detected during VGC prophy- Laxis. Two patients (1 H and 1 L) were treated for Late CMV disease. Average GCV Cpeak were 8.9±2.3 mg/L and 4.6±0.5 rag/L, and GCV Ctrough were 2.0±0.9 mg/t and 1.6±0.2 mg/t respectively in each patient during induction phase. VGC treatment afforded a decrease in CMV DNA from 5.2 and 4.4 Log copies/10E6 cettutes at week 0, to 3.9 and 3.0 at week 1, and 3.3 and 2.1 at week 3, respectively.

The 2009 International Society of Urological Pathology Consensus Conference in Boston made recommendations regarding the standardization of pathology reporting of radical prostatectomy specimens. Issues relating to the infiltration of tumor into the seminal vesicles and regional lymph nodes were coordinated by working group 4. There was a consensus that complete blocking of the seminal vesicles was not necessary, although sampling of the junction of the seminal vesicles and prostate was mandatory. There was consensus that sampling of the vas deferens margins was not obligatory. There was also consensus that muscular wall invasion of the extraprostatic seminal vesicle only should be regarded as seminal vesicle invasion. Categorization into types of seminal vesicle spread was agreed by consensus to be not necessary. For examination of lymph nodes, there was consensus that special techniques such as frozen sectioning were of use only in high-risk cases. There was no consensus on the optimal sampling method for pelvic lymph node dissection specimens, although there was consensus that all lymph nodes should be completely blocked as a minimum. There was also a consensus that a count of the number of lymph nodes harvested should be attempted. In view of recent evidence, there was consensus that the diameter of the largest lymph node metastasis should be measured. These consensus decisions will hopefully clarify the difficult areas of pathological assessment in radical prostatectomy evaluation and improve the concordance of research series to allow more accurate assessment of patient prognosis.

The commemoration of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Constitution which was adopted by the people of Iowa in 1857 was in itself a notable event. It has become a part of the history of our Commonwealth. The program, which was presented under the auspices of The State Historical Society of Iowa on the nineteenth, twentieth, twenty-first, and twenty-second of March, 1907, at Iowa City, Iowa, in the Hall of Liberal Arts, was carried out fully in every detail.

Following a scheme of Levin we describe the values that functions in Fock spaces take on lattices of critical density in terms of both the size of the values and a cancelation condition that involves discrete versions of the Cauchy and Beurling-Ahlfors transforms.

Quality of life has been extensively discussed in acute and chronic illnesses. However a dynamic model grounded in the experience of patients in the course of transplantation has not been to our knowledge developed. In a qualitative longitudinal study, patients awaiting solid organ transplantation participated in semi-structured interviews: Exploring topics pre-selected on previous research literature review. Creative interview was privileged, open to themes patients would like to discuss at the different steps of the transplantation process. A qualitative thematic and reflexive analysis was performed, and a model of the dimensions constitutive of quality of life from the perspective of the patients was elaborated. Quality of life is not a stable construct in a long lasting illness-course, but evolves with illness constraints, treatments and outcomes. Dimensions constitutive of quality of life are defined, each of them containing different sub-categories depending on the organ related illness co-morbidities and the stage of illness-course.
