Assessing Biological Control Damage of Giant Salvinia with Field Reflectance Measurements and Aerial Photography

A study was conducted on a small pond in southeast Texas to evaluate the potential for using remote sensing technology to assess feeding damage on giant salvinia ( Salvinia molesta Mitchell) by the salvinia weevil ( Cyrtobagous salviniae Calder and Sands). Field spectral measurements showed that moderately damaged and severely damaged plants had lower visible and near-infrared reflectance values than healthy plants. Healthy, moderately damaged, and severely damaged giant salvinia plants could be differentiated in an aerial color-infrared photograph of the study site. Computer analysis of the photograph showed that the three damage level classes could be quantified. (PDF has 5 pages.)

Measurements of Flow Patterns and Velocities of Gas -Water Two -Phase Flows Using Electrical Resistance Imaging

This paper presents a measurement of flow patterns and flow velocities of gas-water two-phase flows based on the technique of electrical resistance tomography (ERT) in a 40m horizontal flow loop. A single-plane and dual-plane ERT sensor on conductive ring technique were used to gather sufficient information for the implementation of flow characteristics particularly flow pattern recognition and air cavity velocity measurement. A fast data collection strategy was applied to the dual-plane ERT sensor and an iterative algorithm was used for image reconstruction. Results, in respect to flow patterns and velocity maps, are reported.

Acoustic noise measurements of MBARI's Ventana ROV

This technical memorandum reports on the noise measurement results performed on MBARI's Ventana ROV. The measurement procedure and the instrumentation for this experiment are also described. This report is organized as follows: Section 1 provides some introductory information. Section 2 describes the experiment and the instrumentation. Section 3 presents the results. Mitigation Techniques to Reduce the Impact of Wind Turbines on Radar Services

Radar services are occasionally affected by wind farms. This paper presents a comprehensive description of the effects that a wind farm may cause on the different radar services, and it compiles a review of the recent research results regarding the mitigation techniques to minimize this impact. Mitigation techniques to be applied at the wind farm and on the radar systems are described. The development of thorough impact studies before the wind farm is installed is presented as the best way to analyze in advance the potential for interference, and subsequently identify the possible solutions to allow the coexistence of wind farms and radar services.
