Este trabalho objetivou avaliar durante um ciclo de cultivo de Litopenaeus vannamei com periodicidade quinzenal de 20/09/08 a 05/12/08 a comunidade planctônica e os parâmetros abióticos em duas estações dentro de um viveiro no município de Curuça, Estado do Pará. Foram medidos transparência, pH, oxigênio dissolvido, salinidade e temperatura, sendo os quatro últimos registrados na superfície e próximo ao fundo e realizadas coletas para o estudo do microfitoplâncton, zooplâncton e clorofila “a”. A temperatura variou de 31,5ºC a 35ºC. O oxigênio dissolvido variou de 4,2 mg/l a 15,5 mg/l. O pH manteve-se ligeiramente alcalino, entre 8,1 e 9,4. A menor salinidade foi 26,9 e a maior, 30 ppm. A transparência diminuiu de 55 cm para 17 cm. Clorofila a teve um mínimo de 2,33mg/m3 e um máximo de 471,34 mg/m3. Foram identificados 95 taxa e Bacillariophyta foi o grupo mais importante, sendo Navicula, Pleurosigma e Nitzschia os principais responsáveis pela sua dominância. A maior densidade registrada para o microfitoplâncton foi de 104.400 org/l no início do cultivo (20/09) e a menor foi 3.600 org/l na última coleta (05/12). A média de diversidade para o fitoplâncton na Estação 01 foi 1,49 bits/ind e na Estação 02, 1,43 bits/ind. Foram identificados 34 taxa zooplanctônicos, sendo Copepoda o grupo mais importante e Acartia lilljeborgi, Euterpina acutifrons, Oithona hebes, Oithona oswaldocruzzi e Parvocalanus crassirostris os principais responsáveis pela sua dominância. A maior densidade registrada para o zooplâncton foi de 162.000 org/m3 no início do cultivo (20/09) e a menor foi 375 org/m3 no dia 05/11. A diversidade também foi baixa tendo médias de 1,34 bits/ind e 1,10 bits/ind nas estações 01 e 02, respectivamente. Entre as principais conclusões: a comunidade microfitoplanctônica foi dominada pelas diatomáceas, sendo os principais gêneros responsáveis por esta dominância: Pleurosigma, Nitzschia e Navicula e a divisão Bacillariophyta foi o grupo mais importante tanto em termos de riqueza quanto de densidade; a classe dinophyceae revelou estar melhor adaptados em águas mais claras; os copépodos foram dominantes, sendo Acartia lilljeborgi, Oithona hebes, Oithona oswaldocruzzi, Parvocalanus crassirostris e Euterpina acutifrons as espécies que mais contribuíram para esta dominância; Clorofila “a” respondeu aos maiores aportes de ração durante o cultivo, aumentando com o tempo; as variáveis físico-químicas que sofreram influência do cultivo, variando significativamente ao longo do tempo foram: pH, oxigênio dissolvido e transparência e o viveiro investigado foi considerado homogêneo avaliando sua profundidade e área.

The multi stage filtration (MSF) is an alternative that permits to enlarge the spectrum of application of the slow sand filtration as for the effluent quality and run duration. In this research the use of MSF technology associated to a granular activated carbon (GAC) column as polishing mechanism of the final effluent was evaluated; in the slow sand filters GAC was used as an intermediate layer and non-woven synthetic fabrics were utilized as a first layer of the filter media. Five different tests were conducted, where the systems subjected to the treatment were: water from the Ipe Lake (Ilha Solteira, Sao Paulo, Brazil); water from the lake with water from a recreational fish pond; water from the lake with a phytoplankton and cyanobacteria overload simulation, with and without the use of the pre-filters as a stage of the treatment. The synthetic fabrics and GAC use resulted in the best turbidity removal and an efficient apparent and true color removal; in spite that the polishing columns reported similar results for those parameters. The utilization of GAC as an intermediate layer contributed to a better organic matter removal and the fabrics improved chlorophyll-a removal. The pre-filtration columns made an efficient algae and cyanobacteria removal, a function that was completed by the filters and reached >98% efficiency. The synthetic non-woven fabrics and GAC inclusion in MSF operation improved performance of this technology with ease of application and operation.

The family Chironomidae is one of the most important groups within the macroinvertebrate communities, both in density and in richness, and because of its high adaptive value, has a wide distribution on the planet. These and other more specific features of each genus allow the use of this group of biomonitoring studies in the aquatic ecosystem, however, primarily, it is necessary to inventory the aquatic fauna. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the taxonomic composition of Chironomidae associated with Eichhornia azurea in six lateral lagoons of Paranapanema River, where only five of them have very little information about the aquatic fauna associated with floating macrophytes. Furthermore, we analyzed the influence of environmental conditions on the richness and density of this community. Samples (biotic and abiotic) were held in March and August 2009 on the Ivo, Carmo, Sete Ilhas, Barbosa, Poço da Pedra and Coqueiral lagoons, which are upstream of the Jurumirim Reservoir. Samples with an area of 0.1976 m2 were collected at three banks of E. azurea of each lagoon. Then, they were washed in formaldehyde and water and fixed in 70% alcohol. The identification of morphospecies recorded 38 taxa (32 in March and 37 in August), where the Ivo lagoon is the richest (27 taxa). The density of each group varied according to each pond and is generally Asheum sp., Chironomus sp., Beardius sp., Parachironomus sp., Labrundinia sp., Tanytarsus sp., Ablabesmyia sp. and Polypedilum sp. the most representative. Limnophyes sp., Denopelopia sp., Paratanytarsus sp. and Parametriocnemus sp. were genders in lower density. The Dominance index ranged between 0.1490 (Barbosa Lagoon in March) and 0.4114 (Poço da Pedra Lagoon in March), and the Diversity Index ranged from 2.08 (Coqueiral Lagoon in March) and 3.58 (Barbosa Lagoon in August). This work aimed to develop a biological system for removal of ammonia nitrogen operating at low concentrations of dissolved oxygen. Thus, a biological upflow vertical reactor was built, in which the affluent pass through the support media until the top. Sludge from an anaerobic stabilization pond of a slaughterhouse unit in the city of Presidente Prudente - SP was used as inoculum. Initially the system operated in batch and afterwards in a continuous flow with different HRT. For feeding the reactor, an initial phases was adopted a synthetic culture media, described by Martins (2007), in order to establish the ideal conditions for the development of Anammox bacteria and subsequently, submitted to the system a slugde effluent of slaughterhouse. The results showed significant removal efficiency of N-NH4+, especially in the phase without recirculation of culture media, with an average of 71% removal, with the proportion of removal of N-NH4 +:N-NO2- average 1: 1,69. For the period of operation with effluent from the slaughterhouse, were not obtained satisfactory results, without confirmation of the proliferation of Anammox bacteria in the system, due to the high presences of organic matter in the same confirmed by high concentrations of COD

The aims of this study are to determine how anuran calling males are spatially and temporally distributed in the Morro do Diabo State Park (MDSP), and to test for indicator species in different breeding habitats. We found high species turnover among breeding habitats of different hydroperiods. Our results indicate that spatial partitioning is more important than seasonal occurrence in permitting species coexistence at MDSP. Indicator Species Analysis identified one species associated with a local stream, one species associated with permanent ponds, two species associated with temporary ponds, and three species associated with a semipermanent pond. Guilds of species do not appear to stratify their distributions throughout the year, since most species occur during the rainy and warm months and are thus temporally overlapping. The main conservation implication of our work is the need to protect the different areas of the park where these unique breeding habitats, and their associated anuran assemblages, are found.
