The mobility of water in the soil is a difficult process to be quantified. During precipitation, there is a portion of the water that infiltrates, which is very important for recovering the groundwater balance. This work studies the mobility of water in sandy soils with different textures and residual soils through experiments mounted in lysimeters. The lysimeters were mounted on acrylic cylinder with 11.3 cm diameter and 25.0 cm in length. The sand was deposited using the process sand rain. In the tests it was maintained a hydraulic head of two centimeters above the surface with the aid of a Mariotte flask. The portions of water were controlled in the experiments using relations between weight and volume measurements over time. The data were obtained by monitoring the input and output volumes of water through calibrated reservoir and system weight by an electronic balance. The infiltration front was monitored with the aid of a digital camera. The results indicate that the smaller the particle size of the sand, the lower the speed of the saturation front, the higher the retained volume, the smaller the basic rate of infiltration and the lowest speed of percolation. Moreover, the rate of water loss in the evaporation process indicated no significant difference with variation of the particle size of the samples

Increased demand for energy and the search for alternative energy sources are remarkable and current facts. The management of domestic solid waste is also part of the issue in view of the possibility of power generation in existing landfills, which could provide financial autonomy to the system of waste management and improve the environmental balance of landfills in Brazil, currently only used for final solids disposal. Landfill gas is a viable alternative energy source has been tested in landfills in the World and in Brazil. Thus, the research aimed to evaluate the percentage of methane (CH4) present in three sinks of gases from a landfill in the municipality of Rio Claro – SP (Brazil), and to estimate the potential methane generation over its life through the application of a mathematical model. As a result it was found that in general the percentage of methane present in the gases is significant, between 50 and 62%. It was also noted that waste with disposal time between 8 and 12 months already are in the methanogenic stage. Brazil has about 12 % of a life´s essential resource: the superficial fresh water of the planet. However, today it is possible to observe the bad management of this resource, generating serious consequences on the quality that results in the loss of the use´s availability. In this scenario, the catchment of rainwater for undrinkable use is an alternative that has been broadly studied for the scientific community. When planning a system of rainwater catchment, the sizing of the required volume of the tank that will keep the water has a fundamental importance for the project, seeing that the supersizing of the tank can bring high costs and the undersizing can bring shortage in the water supply. This paper used a methodology based on two concepts: the harvesting efficiencies and the attending efficiencies of the system. This method takes as principle that exist a perfect demand that minimize the repayment time, condition that happened when the efficiencies are equal. Brazilian’s cities with different weathers and different rainfalls where chosen to simulate the attending for different demands for a typical residence. The data where parameterized according to the roof area and the number of residents, that way is possible that a future conference can be easily done and it also ensure results closer to the reality. The results showed that cities with a lower period of drought, even those with high level of rainfall on the raining mouths, have lower potential of water supply. The cities where the rainfall is more constant and also more high, even small roofs areas and small tank´s volumes – about half of the size compare to the cities with less propitious conditions – can generate high levels of water saving. With an eye to promote the environmental sustainability, the investment on projects for the catchment of rainwater is a good alternative

This research sought to understand the temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall and its effect on water dynamics on a regional basis, taking into account the pace of climate paradigm. The study area covers the entire river basin of the Itajai and its surroundings understood, roughly, between parallels 26° and 28° south latitude and 48° and 50° 30' west longitude, place of constant heavy rains and floods. In this region, pluviometric and fluviometric data were obtained, the variables of rainfall and water flow, which were compiled and analyzed using spreadsheets in order to get the series with more homogeneous data as possible for good analysis, the period between 1953 and 1982. This historical period has passed in principle by an analysis which sought to highlight the variability and distribution of rainfall and water flow in the basin-level annual, techniques which were used that allowed the choice of standard year representative (rainy, dry , usual) series. These obtained years (1957, 1968 and 1971, respectively) underwent a detailed analysis on the monthly level, providing good interpretation of the dynamic behavior of rain associated with dynamic water flow for these representative years

As abelhas solitárias são caracterizadas pela independência da fêmea em construir e aprovisionar sozinha seus ninhos, sem auxílio, cooperação ou divisão de trabalho entre as fêmeas de uma mesma geração, ou entre mãe e filhas. Dentro deste grupo, se enquadram aquelas que nidificam em cavidades pré-existentes. O objetivo deste trabalho é inventariar as espécies de abelhas solitárias no Campus da UNESP de Rio Claro - SP com o auxílio de ninhos-armadilha. Para este estudo foram escolhidos quatro locais, e em cada um foram expostos 212 ninhos-armadilha, confeccionados com cartolina preta, fechados numa das extremidades, todos com o mesmo comprimento, porém diferentes quanto ao diâmetro: 12,0 x 0,6 cm (ninho pequeno, NP) e 12,0 x 0,8 cm (ninho grande, NG). Esses ninhos foram arranjados dentro de tubos de PVC e apoiados em prateleiras ou em troncos, sempre a 1,40 metros de altura e protegidos contra o sol e chuva. A amostragem dos ninhos foi realizada no período entre maio de 2009 e abril de 2010, com coletas a cada dez dias. Cada ninho retirado foi reposto para manter o número de ninhos disponíveis. O período de emergência foi acompanhado de maio de 2009 a agosto de 2010. Apenas um ponto de amostragem houve coletas de ninhos de abelhas, o “Sítio de Nidificação”, com nidificação de sete espécies de abelhas pertencentes às famílias Apidae, Centris (Hemisiella) tarsata, Centris (Heterocentris) analis, Tetrapedia curvitarsis e Tetrapedia diversipes, e Megachilidae, Carloticola sp., Epanthidium tigrinum e Megachile sp. A espécie mais abundante foi Tetrapedia curvitarsis, seguida por Centris (Heterocentris) analis e Tetrapedia diversipes. A construção de ninhos foi maior durante o período chuvoso, havendo no mês de fevereiro de 2010 maior abundância de nidificações (23%) assim como maior riqueza de espécies nidificando (n = 6). This study investigated the effect of slope and antecedent soil moisture on the water depth stored and percolated on extensive green roofs built in pilot scale. For this purpose, slopes of 10, 20 and 30% were investigated. Moisture was measured before and after each test to determine the differential moisture (ΔU). A rainfall simulator was designed and tested; the best arrangement presents a Christiansen Uniformity Coefficient of 56%. The results yielded that the slopes of 10% presented the highest values of water depth stored (59,88%), water depth percolated (77,15%), the slope of 30% presented the highest water depth drained (48,22%.) and there was no correlation between slope, water depth stored, water depth percolated and ΔU. It was verified the effect of dilution on the modules i10% between water depth percolated and apparent color (0.71%) in i20% between water depth drained and apparent color (-0.748%) and in the module i30% between water depth drained and turbidity (-0.76%) and water depth drained and apparent color (-0.93%). In i10% there was high correlation between pH and water depth percolated (0.94%) and between water depth drained and pH (0.71%). The decreasing availability of drinking water is a problem that has existed for a long time and continues to be aggravated, especially by the increase in population and pollution of water resources. Due to the need to find alternatives in order to ensure water supplies in sufficient quantity and quality for consumption by populations, rainwater collection arises as an alternative. The present study was developed in Ipeúna-SP, consisting of an experimental system of collection and storage of rainwater on the roofs of buildings. Samples of the same precipitation, differentiated through the initial disposal and treatment of the collected water, were stored during a period of six months and monitored through physical, chemical and microbiological analyses. With the results, the qualitative characteristics of the stored precipitation were found, the main differences among the samples were identified and the needs of treatment were studied.

The aim of the present work is to investigate a simplified rainwater treatment strategy for nonpotable use. For this, there were simulated in laboratory scale the treatment conditions of a system that employs Corn Starch as a coagulant in cyclic filtration (from 1 to 5 filtration cycles). A commercial Corn Starch in different dosages was used (0,1; 0,2; 0,4; 0,6; 0,8; 1,0; 1,5; 2,0; 2,5; 3,0; 3,5; 4,0; 4,5; 5,0; 5,5; 6,0; 6,5; 7,0; 7,5; 8,0; 8,5 e 9,0 mg/L). The NBR 15527/07 recommended parameters were monitored on the inflow and outflow and compared to different first flushes (0.5; 1.0 and 1.5mm). The obtained results indicate that the 6.0mg/L dosage presented the best results (removal efficiency of 86% of turbidity; 88% of apparent color and absent of total and faecal coliform residuals). However, it was not possible to prove the filtration cycles benefit, in laboratory scale, because for some Corn Starch dosages the water did not present better quality when increasing the number of cycles.

The present study addresses the application of the Environmental Management System in chicken production on a farm owned by the Nardo brothers, located in the city of Guapiaçu/SP (Brazil). The objectives were to analyze the process of solid waste generation, destination and forms of treatment in this activity; propose measures to reduce the use of potable water for non-potable ends; determine other measures identified through a questionnaire drafted by Embrapa (Brazilian Agriculture Research Cooperative) and administered to employees who have direct involvement in the productive process; pay visits to chicken production enterprises; and employ the guidelines proposed by the National Fowl-Breeding Sanitation Program that guide the application of the Environmental Management System. Adequate management of waste was put into effect through the construction of a compost shed capable of meeting current production demands, in which all procedures were accompanied – from civil construction to the commercialization process of the organic fertilizer generated. The rain-gathering system for the roofs of the pens proposed to reduce the consumption of potable ground water destined for washing the floors of the pens was completely dimensioned and budgeted, allowing the motivated owners to place the project into effect in a timely fashion. Other simpler but no less important proposals were also made in order to bring the production up to the required quality standards.

A dança surgiu desde os primórdios da humanidade, quando os povos mais antigos dançavam, para a chuva e para o sol, para seus Deuses e para as pessoas mortas ou pelo simples fato de se comunicar. A partir do século XV, ela passou a ser executada nos grandes salões dos palácios, e algumas dessas danças são a valsa, o minueto e a quadrilha. Surgiu, então, a Dança de Salão, sendo que, cada região tinha suas danças características. No início do século XX começam as primeiras competições de dança e uma organização e padronização delas, buscando sua inserção nos Jogos Olímpicos. A dança de salão chegou ao Brasil com a Família Real, e após sua popularização, sofreu influência da cultura africana, que deu origem a novas danças, como o maxixe, o samba, o choro, a lambada, o forró entre outros. A dança como esporte chegou ao Brasil há pouco tempo, com a criação da Confederação Brasileira de Dança de Salão. Com essa profissionalização da Dança de Salão e mesmo pelo seu caráter lúdico, hoje, existem muitos praticantes. Este estudo teve a finalidade de fazer um levantamento histórico, que possa contribuir e enriquecer a quantidade de estudos nesta área, além de possibilitar àqueles que buscam a obtenção de informações relevantes sobre a dança de salão.

The unpaved back roads, despite their simplicity, are of paramount importance to the municipalities that their economy basis are in agri-livestock and a large portion of their population lives in rural areas, as it is from these pathways that flow of production is performed and ensuring access of the rural population to urban centers is allowed. Aiming the importance of these rural roads, this work studies the case of pathologies found in local roads of São Luiz do Paraitinga, located in the Vale do Paraíba upstate São Paulo, due to lack of a periodic maintenance program the roads not withstood the heavy rains late in the year 2009 and early 2010, generating major impacts on society and the economy of the city. From surveys conducted in the field, it was analyzed the various pathologies found (pathology drainage, slope and platform) checking also the nature of their occurrence, therefore propose solutions for intervention in rural roads, to decrease the susceptibility of these roads during the rainy season

The growing demand for electricity in Brazil has stimulated the implementation of Small Hydro Power (PCH) in various regions of the country. However, the silting of reservoirs is a major problem faced by power plants and power plants. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the data hydrosedimentological strategic points of the watershed of the Alto Rio Sucuriú (MS) to identify the possible causes siltation of the reservoir PCH Costa Rica and suggest mitigation measures. Hydrosedimentological surveys were conducted during the rainy season (February / March 2012) and drought (August 2012), and obtained data flow, discharge liquid, suspended solids and bottom and organic matter content. Based on these results it was determined that the points 2, 4, 7 and 9 are the largest contributors to sedimentation, and point 4 got most liquid discharge (38,20 m3s-1), point 7 largest discharge of solid suspension (906,3 mg L-1), points 2 and 4 major discharges solid totals (231,59 t dia-1 and 238,185 t dia-1 respectively) and point 9 higher organic matter content (22,18%) . Found greater fraction of fine sand and very fine suspended solids and solid medium sand in the background. As mitigation measures for the process of silting of the reservoir PCH Costa Rica (MS) highlights the orientation of landowners in adopting conservation measures and planting of leguminous species native to the region in symbiosis with nitrogen-fixing bacteria

Due to an intense process of population growth and urban density in Americana (SP), mainly due to the development of the local textile industry after 1970, there was, concomitant to the occupation of the margin of rivers and streams, soil sealing that increased the level of superficial runoff, triggering frequent floods. Based on the analysis of these processes we investigate the conditions of one densely urbanized area of the county, the Córrego do Parque, in three time series, 1977, 1996 and 2008. Taking as the starting the characterization and spatial distribution of landscape physiography, we prepared thematic letters and synthetic maps digital scale 1:10,000 from photointerpretation of aeroframes. The thematic maps were produced by scanning with subsequent edition using the software Auto-Cad Map. Checking the data and of geographic coordinates with GPS (Global Positioning System). Regarding land use classes, we used the description of the Soil Conservation Service (1975) which allowed us to get the Curve Number parameter, which will be used in hydrologic modeling for verification of flooding (Tucci, 1989). For the process of hydrologic modeling, we used models based on Methodology Object Oriented Modeling Applied to Water Resource Systems, Viegas Filho (1999), using the computer program called IPHS1, which uses models of the Soil Conservation Service (SCS , 2004), for conversion of rainfall-runoff and the spread of excessive rain. The results indicate that increased waterproofing generated by the change in use and occupation over the past decades promoted the increased surface runoff and drainage system overload, increasing the intensity of floods
