Fackskolan för huslig ekonomi. En möjlighet till utbild­ning och kvinnoemancipation för de ogifta borgarflick­orna. : En social rekryteringsstudie av lärarinnekandidater till fackskolan för huslig ekonomi i Upp­sala, 1895-1910.

Jag har med denna uppsats velat undersöka betydelsen av Fackskolan för huslig ekonomi i Uppsala,(FHE), för de ogifta borgarflickornas emancipation vad beträffar utbildningsmöjlig­heter. Detta har jag gjort genom att undersöka den sociala re­kryteringen, där de rekryterade flickornas fäders yr­ken, samt en geografisk fördelning har upptecknats, från tiden då skolan grundades, 1895 och fram till 1910. Det undersökta materi­alet, som är matriklar för rekryterade hushållslärarinnor på FHE, är arkivmaterial som lagras på Landsarkivet i Uppsala, där FHE är arkivbildare.   Undersökningen visar att ca 65 % av eleverna var av medelklassfamilj, vilket vid jämförelse överrensstämmer med andra liknande skolor. Blanda annat visar min jämförande undersökning med Folkskollärarinneseminariet i Falun, (FFS), detta. Det som utmärker FHE är dock det höga antalet elever som kom från akademiker-och överklasshem, ca.30 % och det låga antalet med arbetarbakgrund,(2-4%), vilket visar på att skolan hade en övervägande borgerlig profil.

La nation et ses mutations : une lecture d'une paix royale, roman belge francophone contemporain de Pierre Mertens

O presente estudo tem como objeto final a análise do romance belga francófono contemporâneo Une paix royale, publicado em 1995 por Pierre Mertens. No que diz respeito a um espaço nacional sem conformidade com o modelo canônico do Estadonação, quer-se evidenciar o estatuto de uma poética romanesca no seu processo de invenção do mito da nação e as peculiaridades da representação nacional que essa poética contribui a gerar. Tal abordagem do texto literário tem como pressuposto um estudo teórico sobre o conceito de nação, do qual são apresentadas uma história e uma definição. Também é levada em consideração a natureza das relações que a ficção romanesca estabelece com o mito da nação: a invenção do mesmo – que pode incluir sua desconstrução - utiliza uma linguagem específica da qual o romance e o campo literário em geral são enunciadores privilegiados. Essas considerações teóricas abrem caminho para um método interpretativo de textos francófonos que são os portadores contemporâneos do mito da nação belga, ou seja, manifestos publicados por intelectuais e por escritores entre 1976 e 2003, e o romance Une paix royale. Combined characterisation of GOME and TOMS total ozone measurements from space using ground-based observations from the NDSC

Several years of total ozone measured from space by the ERS-2 GOME, the Earth Probe TOMS, and the ADEOS TOMS, are compared with high-quality ground-based observations associated with the Network for the Detection of Stratospheric Change (NDSC), over an extended latitude range and a variety of geophysical conditions. The comparisons with each spaceborne sensor are combined altogether for investigating their respective solar zenith angle (SZA) dependence, dispersion, and difference of sensitivity. The space- and ground-based data are found to agree within a few percent on average. However, the analysis highlights for both GOME and TOMS several sources of discrepancies: (i) a SZA dependence with TOMS beyond 80° SZA; (ii) a seasonal SZA dependence with GOME beyond 70° SZA; (iii) a difference of sensitivity with GOME at high latitudes; (iv) a difference of sensitivity to low ozone values between satellite and SAOZ sensors around the southern tropics; (v) a north/south difference of TOMS with the ground-based observations; and (vi) internal inconsistencies in GOME total ozone. © 2001 COSPAR. Herman D. Stein

Herman Stein, President of the International Association of Schools of Social Work from 1968 - 1976, has for more than sixty years excelled as an educator, scholar, internationalist, university administrator, and leader in a variety of professional associations. From almost the beginning of his career, the world has been the stage on which he has played those many roles, all of them with an abundance of talent. In fact, while he was in the graduate program of what is now the Columbia University School of Social Work, he had to decide whether to become a social worker or an actor. As an undergraduate he became involved in student theatrical productions, where he teamed up with the famous comedian, Danny Kaye, who became a life-long companion and friend. At the end of Steins first year in the social work program, he was invited to join an off-Broadway variety show that helped to launch Kaye on his meteoric rise on both stage and screen. "If I´d joined," Stein has said, "the theater probably was going to be where I would make my career as a character actor." Fortunately for social work and social work education, he chose instead to continue his studies at the School of Social Work, from which he received his master's degree in 1941 and the doctoral degree in 1958. While the world has been his stage, education has been at the heart of his manifold activities. Following a period of direct service practice as a caseworker in a well-known private agency in New York City, he was recruited by the Columbia School of Social Work in 1945 as a faculty member. With an interruption for a significant overseas assignment from 1947 to 1950, he continued at Columbia for another fourteen years, rising through all professorial ranks to Professor and Director of the School's Research Center.
