Alignment is a prevalent approach for recognizing 3D objects in 2D images. A major problem with current implementations is how to robustly handle errors that propagate from uncertainties in the locations of image features. This thesis gives a technique for bounding these errors. The technique makes use of a new solution to the problem of recovering 3D pose from three matching point pairs under weak-perspective projection. Furthermore, the error bounds are used to demonstrate that using line segments for features instead of points significantly reduces the false positive rate, to the extent that alignment can remain reliable even in cluttered scenes.

There are a variety of guidelines and methods available to measure and assess survey quality. Most of these are based on qualitative descriptions. In practice, they are not easy to implement and it is very difficult to make comparisons between surveys. Hence there is a theoretical and pragmatic demand to develop a mainly quantitative based survey assessment tool. This research aimed to meet this need and make contributions to the evaluation and improvement of survey quality. Acknowledging the critical importance of measurement issues in survey research, this thesis starts with a comprehensive introduction to measurement theory and identifies the types of measurement errors associated with measurement procedures through three experiments. Then it moves on to describe concepts, guidelines and methods available for measuring and assessing survey quality. Combining these with measurement principles leads to the development of a quantitative based statistical holistic tool to measure and assess survey quality. The criteria, weights and subweights for the assessment tool are determined using Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) and a survey questionnaire based on the Delphi method. Finally the model is applied to a database of surveys which was constructed to develop methods of classification, assessment and improvement of survey quality. The model developed in this thesis enables survey researchers and/or commissioners to make a holistic assessment of the value of the particular survey(s). This model is an Excel based audit which takes a holistic approach, following all stages of the survey from inception, to design, construction, execution, analysis and dissemination. At each stage a set of criteria are applied to assess quality. Scores attained against these assessments are weighted by the importance of the criteria and summed to give an overall assessment of the stage. The total score for a survey can be obtained by a combination of the scores for every stage weighted again by the importance of each stage. The advantage of this is to construct a means of survey assessment which can be used in a diagnostic manner to assess and improve survey quality.

We present results of calculations [1] that employ a new mixed quantum classical iterative density matrix propagation approach (ILDM , or so called Is‐Landmap) [2] to explore the survival of coherence in different photo synthetic models. Our model studies confirm the long lived quantum coherence , while conventional theoretical tools (such as Redfield equation) fail to describe these phenomenon [3,4]. Our ILDM method is a numerical exactly propagation scheme and can be served as a bench mark calculation tools[2]. Result get from ILDM and from other recent methods have been compared and show agreement with each other[4,5]. Long lived coherence plateau has been attribute to the shift of harmonic potential due to the system bath interaction, and the harvesting efficiency is a balance between the coherence and dissipation[1]. We use this approach to investigate the excitation energy transfer dynamics in various light harvesting complex include Fenna‐Matthews‐Olsen light harvesting complex[1] and Cryptophyte Phycocyanin 645 [6]. We consider the problem of efficiently and fairly allocating bandwidth at a highly congested link to a diverse set of flows, including TCP flows with various Round Trip Times (RTT), non-TCP-friendly flows such as Constant-Bit-Rate (CBR) applications using UDP, misbehaving, or malicious flows. Though simple, a FIFO queue management is vulnerable. Fair Queueing (FQ) can guarantee max-min fairness but fails at efficiency. RED-PD exploits the history of RED's actions in preferentially dropping packets from higher-rate flows. Thus, RED-PD attempts to achieve fairness at low cost. By relying on RED's actions, RED-PD turns out not to be effective in dealing with non-adaptive flows in settings with a highly heterogeneous mix of flows. In this paper, we propose a new approach we call RED-NB (RED with No Bias). RED-NB does not rely on RED's actions. Rather it explicitly maintains its own history for the few high-rate flows. RED-NB then adaptively adjusts flow dropping probabilities to achieve max-min fairness. In addition, RED-NB helps RED itself at very high loads by tuning RED's dropping behavior to the flow characteristics (restricted in this paper to RTTs) to eliminate its bias against long-RTT TCP flows while still taking advantage of RED's features at low loads. Through extensive simulations, we confirm the fairness of RED-NB and show that it outperforms RED, RED-PD, and CHOKe in all scenarios.
