From north with group of students on lawn. Built in 1856. First chemical laboratory at a state university. Building served medical students and others as both laboratory and classroom. Situated just west and south of the original medical building. Additions made to the one-story building in 1861, 1866, 1868, 1874. In 1880 a two-story addition was added with subsequent additions in 1889 and 1901. Became Economics Building in 1908. Pharmacology occupied north wing 1908-1981. Destroyed by fire Christmas Eve 1981.

Museum. Romance Languages

William L. Jenney, architect. Originally University Museum, built 1880-1881. Roof replaced 1894. Museum moved in 1928. Housed Department of Romance Languages after 1928. Building razed in 1958. Typed caption pasted on verso: Museum. Built in 1879. Considered finest building on campus but I notice now it is so old and obsolete it should be torn down

Tappan Oak ... between U. Library and Haven Hall.

Tree before 1858; boulder ca. 1883; bronze plaque 1904. In spring of 1858 the Class of 1858 named this oak (growing near center of campus) the Tappan Oak as a tribute to then Pres. Henry P. Tappan). Stone was given by the "Tappan Boys" (class of 58) and placed ca. 1883.

On verso of second copy of same print: Memorial of the Class of 1862. Placed on n.w. corner of campus in 1860. Removed in summer of 1969.

The Cube

Rosenthal, Bernard (Tony), artist. Acquired 1968. Located in the Regents Plaza. Gift of the Class of 1965 and the artist, who was a UM alumnus ('36). The Cube will rotate on its axis, given a gentle push.

Fountain. In the center of the circular driveway between the Michigan Union and the Administration Bldg.

Observatory

The Students' Observatory was erected in 1878. It was located to the south of the Detroit Observatory. Handwritten on verso: Building which housed transit instrument and other instruments which are now in the Angell Hall Domes. On verso: [by A.L. Colton]

General Library

Albert Kahn, architect. In 1918 the old library was demolished and a new front (north facade) was attached to the 1893 stacks and the stacks built in 1916-1917. This was referred to as the (New) General Library until the south stack addition was built in 1967-1970, when the entire library building was named the Harlan Hatcher Graduate Library.
