CONTEXTO:Translocações robertsonianas (TR) estão entre os rearranjos estruturais balanceados mais comuns em humanos e compreendem a fusão da cromatina completa do braço longo de dois cromossomos acrocêntricos. No entanto, são raras as translocações não Robertsonianas envolvendo esses cromossomos.RELATO DE CASO:Nós descrevemos uma translocação não balanceada de novo envolvendo os cromossomos 15 e 21. A recém-nascida era filha de uma mãe de 29 anos e de um pai de 42 anos, casal não consanguíneo. Os achados clínicos levaram ao diagnóstico de síndrome de Down (SD) com defeitos cardíacos congênitos graves (persistência do canal arterial e defeito do septo atrioventricular completo), além de baixos comprimento e peso ao nascimento (< 5o e < 10o percentil em curvas de medidas específicas para SD, respectivamente). A análise citogenética convencional revelou o cariótipo 46,XX,der(15)(15pter→15q26.2

A anurofauna do estado de São Paulo, nas últimas oito décadas, tem sido foco do estudo de importantes grupos de pesquisa em anfíbios anuros. Porém, pesquisas realizadas com comunidades na área da Depressão Periférica do centro-oeste paulista ainda são escassas. A fim de trazer novas informações sobre essa região, nosso objetivo foi inventariar a anurofauna de uma área na Depressão Periférica, associando os resultados com dados da literatura e confrontando os mesmos com aqueles conhecidos para a anurofauna no altiplano da Cuesta de Botucatu. O inventário foi realizado a partir dos dados obtidos em 24 dias de amostragem, decorridos 13 meses de coleta (dezembro de 2008 a dezembro de 2009). Os anuros foram amostrados em potenciais sítios reprodutivos, pelos métodos de encontro visual e busca auditiva. Foram registradas 29 espécies distribuídas em 12 gêneros e seis famílias. Apesar da maioria das espécies serem predominantemente de áreas abertas, consideramos a riqueza elevada, e associamos essa riqueza à existência dos remanescentes de mata nos interflúvios. Entretanto, apesar da presença desses remanescentes, a ocorrência de espécies associadas exclusivamente a essas áreas foi pequena, se comparada aos fragmentos no altiplano, fato que aparentemente está associado às diferenças existentes entre os fragmentos contidos nos interflúvios e os fragmentos do altiplano. A atividade dos anfíbios foi concentrada no período quente e úmido, diminuindo à medida que se aproxima o ápice da estação fria e seca. Com base na análise de similaridade, observou-se a formação de agrupamentos com alta sobreposição. Entre esses agrupamentos, destacaram-se aqueles formados por espécies com atividade de vocalização prolongada, mas que diferiram quanto ao período de maior atividade (início e final da estação chuvosa) bem como, aqueles constituídos por espécies com período de vocalização mais curto, restrito a poucos dias, e que também diferiram no mês de pico de atividade (início e final da estação chuvosa). Com isso acreditamos que as diferenças quanto à distribuição temporal dos organismos da comunidade sejam importantes na partilha de recursos e no ajuste das espécies, fato que contribuiu para o elevado número de anfíbios observados e na coexistência dos táxons na área de estudo.

Root resorption is a variable to be considered in induced tooth movement (ITM). It is related to root morphology and alveolar bone crest, and also to the types of forces exerted by mechanotherapy. This histometric study evaluated the predominance of root resorption among roots of different dimensions, following ITM with different types of forces and at different time intervals. The study was conducted on 54 rats divided into three groups, according to the type of force: continuous (CF), continuous interrupted (CIF) and intermittent (IF), at periods of 5, 7 and 9 days. The percentage of resorption between mesiobuccal roots of larger dimension and intermediate roots of smaller dimension was assessed. The evaluations were performed on the AxioVision software, and the non-parametric analysis of variance for repeated measures in independent groups was further applied, consisting of a scheme of two factors, and complemented by the Dunn test at a significance level of 5%. The intermediate roots presented a higher percentage of resorption, which was gradual at the periods evaluated for the three types of forces, but mainly for CF. Comparing the intermediate roots with the mesiobuccal roots, there was a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) in the CF group at day 7 and day 9, and in the FI group, at day 9. The intragroup analysis evidenced a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) between the 5th and the 9th day for the intermediate root in the CF group. The intergroup analysis did not reveal any statistically significant difference (p > 0.05) in individually analyzed roots.

Background: The purpose of this study is to analyze the tension distribution on bone tissue around implants with different angulations (0 degrees, 17 degrees, and 30 degrees) and connections (external hexagon and tapered) through the use of three-dimensional finite element and statistical analyses.Methods: Twelve different configurations of three-dimensional finite element models, including three inclinations of the implants (0 degrees, 17 degrees, and 30 degrees), two connections (an external hexagon and a tapered), and two load applications (axial and oblique), were simulated. The maximum principal stress values for cortical bone were measured at the mesial, distal, buccal, and lingual regions around the implant for each analyzed situation, totaling 48 groups. Loads of 200 and 100 N were applied at the occlusal surface in the axial and oblique directions, respectively. Maximum principal stress values were measured at the bone crest and statistically analyzed using analysis of variance. Stress patterns in the bone tissue around the implant were analyzed qualitatively.Results: The results demonstrated that under the oblique loading process, the external hexagon connection showed significantly higher stress concentrations in the bone tissue (P < 0.05) compared with the tapered connection. Moreover, the buccal and mesial regions of the cortical bone concentrated significantly higher stress (P < 0.005) to the external hexagon implant type. Under the oblique loading direction, the increased external hexagon implant angulation induced a significantly higher stress concentration (P = 0.045).Conclusions: The study results show that: 1) the oblique load was more damaging to bone tissue, mainly when associated with external hexagon implants; and 2) there was a higher stress concentration on the buccal region in comparison to all other regions under oblique load.

The main feature of pulmonary emphysema is airflow obstruction resulting from the destruction of the alveolar walls distal to the terminal bronchioles. Existing clinical approaches have improved and extended the quality of life of emphysema patients. However, no treatment currently exists that can change the disease course and cure the patient. The different therapeutic approaches that are available aim to increase survival and/or enhance the quality of life of emphysema patients. In this context, cell therapy is a promising therapeutic approach with great potential for degenerative pulmonary diseases. In this protocol proposition, all patients will be submitted to laboratory tests, such as evaluation of heart and lung function and routine examinations. Stem cells will be harvested by means of 10 punctures on each anterior iliac crest, collecting a total volume of 200 mL bone marrow. After preparation, separation, counting and labeling (optional) of the mononuclear cells, the patients will receive an intravenous infusion from the pool of Bone Marrow Mononuclear Cells (BMMC). This article proposes a rational and safe clinical cellular therapy protocol which has the potential for developing new projects and can serve as a methodological reference for formulating clinical application protocols related to the use of cellular therapy in COPD. This study protocol was submitted and approved by the Brazilian National Committee of Ethics in Research (CONEP - Brazil) registration number 14764. Introduction: The myofascial pain syndrome (SDM) is one of the most common causes of musculoskeletal pain. One of the possible treatments for SDM is the type of physiotherapy myofascial manipulation. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the effect of manipulative technique with myofascial pain threshold before and after applying the technique in athletes during competition period. Methods: Participated in the study 62 subjects of both genders, aged between 14 and 38 (19.64 + 4.89), who had myofascial pain syndrome, 32 oh the treatment group and 30 divided equally between control group and the placebo group. All were athletes and operated by the Department of Sport and Leisure in the city of Marilia – SP and were in competitive period. The volunteers were evaluated according to their musculoskeletal symptoms to prove the necessity of performing the technique of myofascial manipulation. Confi rmed the need to assess the pressure pain threshold (LDP) using a digital dynamometer. After the measurement, patients underwent treatment or using the technique of myofascial manipulation, or a sliding surface for the placebo or no treatment for the control group followed by the immediate reassessment of the LDP. Results: The results were normalized by Kolmogrov-Smirnov test (KS). Through the ANOVA test found no differences between the initial LDP thresholds between groups. To compare pre and post LDP of the three groups we used the paired t test. Signifi cant difference (p=0.0001) between the values of pain threshold before and after application of myofascial manipulation for the treated group and not signifi cant for the control group (p=0.45) and placebo (p=0.16). Conclusion: We conclude then that the myofascial manipulation technique is able to increase pain threshold after micro-musculoskeletal injuries in athletes in competitive period.
