La presente tesis se centra en el estudio de los fenómenos de transporte de los isótopos de hidrógeno, y más concretamente del tritio, en materiales de interés para los reactores de fusión nuclear. Los futuros reactores de fusión nuclear necesitarán una Planta de Tritio, con una envoltura regeneradora (breeding blanket) y unos sistemas auxiliares claves para su diseño. Por lo tanto su desarrollo y cualificación son cruciales para demostrar que los reactores de fusión son una opción viable como futura fuente de energía. Se han resaltado los diferentes retos de la difusión y retención de estas especies ligeras para cada sistema de la Planta de Tritio, y se han identificado las necesidades experimentales y paramétricas para abordar las simulaciones de difusión, como factores de transporte como la difusividad, absorción/desorción, solubilidad y atrapamiento. Se han estudiado los fenómenos de transporte y parámetros del T en el metal líquido LiPb, componente del breeding blanket tanto para una planta de fusión magnética como inercial. Para ello se han utilizado dos experimentos con características diversas, uno de ellos se ha llevado a cabo en un reactor de alto flujo, y por lo tanto, en condiciones de irradiación, y el otro sin irradiación. Los métodos de simulación numérica aplicados se han adaptado a los experimentos para las mediciones y para estudiar el régimen de transporte. En el estudio de estos experimentos se ha obtenido un valor para algunos de los parámetros claves en el transporte y gestión del tritio en el reactor. Finalmente se realiza un cálculo de la acumulación y difusión de tritio en una primera pared de tungsteno para un reactor de fusión inercial. En concreto para el proyecto de fusión por láser europeo, HiPER (para sus fases 4a y 4b). Se ha estudiado: la implantación de los isótopos de H y He en la pared de W tras una reacción de fusión por iluminación directa con un láser de 48MJ; el efecto en el transporte de T de los picos de temperatura en el W debido a la frecuencia de los eventos de fusión; el régimen de transporte en la primera pared. Se han identificado la naturaleza de las trampas más importantes para el T y se ha propuesto un modelo avanzado para la difusión con trampas. ABSTRACT The present thesis focuses into study the transport phenomenons of hydrogen isotopes, more specifically tritium, in materials of interest for nuclear fusion reactors. The future nuclear reactors will be provided of a Tritium Plant, with its breeding blanket and its auxiliary systems, all of them essential components for the plant. Therefore a reliable development and coalification are key issues to prove the viability of the nuclear fusion reactors as an energy source. The currently challenges for the diffusion and accumulation of these light species for each system of the TP has been studied. Experimental and theoretical needs have been identified and analyzed, specially from the viewpoint of the parameters. To achieve reliable simulations of tritium transport, parameters as diffusivity, absorption/desorption, solubility and trapping must be reliables. Transport phenomenon and parameters of T in liquid metal have been studied. Lead lithium is a key component of the breeding blanket, either in magnetic or inertial fusion confinement. Having this aim in mind, two experiments with different characteristics have been used; one of them has been realized in a high flux reactor, and hence, under irradiation conditions. The other one has been realized without radiation. The mathematical methods for the simulation have been adapted to the experiments, for the measures and also to study the transport behavior. A value for some key parameters for tritium management has been obtained in these studies. Finally, tritium accumulation and diffusion in a W first wall of an inertial nuclear fusion reactor has been assessed. A diffusion model of the implanted H, D, T and He species for the two initial phases of the proposed European laser fusion Project HiPER (namely, phase 4a and phase 4b) has been implemented using Tritium Migration Analysis Program, TMAP7. The effect of the prompt and working temperatures and the operational pulsing modes on the diffusion are studied. The nature of tritium traps in W and their performance has been analyzed and discussed.

There are significant levels of concern about the relevance and the difficulty of learning some issues on Strength of Materials and Structural Analysis. Most students of Continuum Mechanics and Structural Analysis in Civil Engineering usually point out some key learning aspects as especially difficult for acquiring specific skills. These key concepts entail comprehension difficulties but ease access and applicability to structural analysis in more advanced subjects. Likewise, some elusive but basic structural concepts, such as flexibility, stiffness or influence lines, are paramount for developing further skills required for advanced structural design: tall buildings, arch-type structures as well as bridges. As new curricular itineraries are currently being implemented, it appears appropriate to devise a repository of interactive web-based applications for training in those basic concepts. That will hopefully train the student to understand the complexity of such concepts, to develop intuitive knowledge on actual structural response and to improve their preparation for exams. In this work, a web-based learning assistant system for influence lines on continuous beams is presented. It consists of a collection of interactive user-friendly applications accessible via Web. It is performed in both Spanish and English languages. Rather than a “black box” system, the procedure involves open interaction with the student, who can simulate and virtually envisage the structural response. Thus, the student is enabled to set the geometric, topologic and mechanic layout of a continuous beam and to change or shift the loading and the support conditions. Simultaneously, the changes in the beam response prompt on the screen, so that the effects of the several issues involved in structural analysis become apparent. The system is performed through a set of web pages which encompasses interactive exercises and problems, written in JavaScript under JQuery and DyGraphs frameworks, given that their efficiency and graphic capabilities are renowned. Students can freely boost their self-study on this subject in order to face their exams more confidently. Besides, this collection is expected to be added to the "Virtual Lab of Continuum Mechanics" of the UPM, launched in 2013 (http://serviciosgate.upm.es/laboratoriosvirtuales/laboratorios/medios-continuos-en-construcci%C3%B3n)

This paper presents a project for providing the students of Structural Engineering with the flexibility to learn outside classroom schedules. The goal is a framework for adaptive E-learning based on a repository of open educational courseware with a set of basic Structural Engineering concepts and fundamentals. These are paramount for students to expand their technical knowledge and skills in structural analysis and design of tall buildings, arch-type structures as well as bridges. Thus, concepts related to structural behaviour such as linearity, compatibility, stiffness and influence lines have traditionally been elusive for students. The objective is to facilitate the student a teachinglearning process to acquire the necessary intuitive knowledge, cognitive skills and the basis for further technological modules and professional development in this area. As a side effect, the system is expected to help the students improve their preparation for exams on the subject. In this project, a web-based open-source system for studying influence lines on continuous beams is presented. It encompasses a collection of interactive user-friendly applications accessible via Web, written in JavaScript under JQuery and Dygraph Libraries, taking advantage of their efficiency and graphic capabilities. It is performed in both Spanish and English languages. The student is enabled to set the geometric, topologic, boundary and mechanic layout of a continuous beam. While changing the loading and the support conditions, the changes in the beam response prompt on the screen, so that the effects of the several issues involved in structural analysis become apparent. This open interaction with the user allows the student to simulate and virtually infer the structural response. Different levels of complexity can be handled, whereas an ongoing help is at hand for any of them. Students can freely boost their experiential learning on this subject at their own pace, in order to further share, process, generalize and apply the relevant essential concepts of Structural Engineering analysis. PURPOSE The decision-making process plays a key role in organizations. Every decision-making process produces a final choice that may or may not prompt action. Recurrently, decision makers find themselves in the dichotomous question of following a traditional sequence decision-making process where the output of a decision is used as the input of the next stage of the decision, or following a joint decision-making approach where several decisions are taken simultaneously. The implication of the decision-making process will impact different players of the organization. The choice of the decision- making approach becomes difficult to find, even with the current literature and practitioners’ knowledge. The pursuit of better ways for making decisions has been a common goal for academics and practitioners. Management scientists use different techniques and approaches to improve different types of decisions. The purpose of this decision is to use the available resources as well as possible (data and techniques) to achieve the objectives of the organization. The developing and applying of models and concepts may be helpful to solve managerial problems faced every day in different companies. As a result of this research different decision models are presented to contribute to the body of knowledge of management science. The first models are focused on the manufacturing industry and the second part of the models on the health care industry. Despite these models being case specific, they serve the purpose of exemplifying that different approaches to the problems and could provide interesting results. Unfortunately, there is no universal recipe that could be applied to all the problems. Furthermore, the same model could deliver good results with certain data and bad results for other data. A framework to analyse the data before selecting the model to be used is presented and tested in the models developed to exemplify the ideas. METHODOLOGY As the first step of the research a systematic literature review on the joint decision is presented, as are the different opinions and suggestions of different scholars. For the next stage of the thesis, the decision-making process of more than 50 companies was analysed in companies from different sectors in the production planning area at the Job Shop level. The data was obtained using surveys and face-to-face interviews. The following part of the research into the decision-making process was held in two application fields that are highly relevant for our society; manufacturing and health care. The first step was to study the interactions and develop a mathematical model for the replenishment of the car assembly where the problem of “Vehicle routing problem and Inventory” were combined. The next step was to add the scheduling or car production (car sequencing) decision and use some metaheuristics such as ant colony and genetic algorithms to measure if the behaviour is kept up with different case size problems. A similar approach is presented in a production of semiconductors and aviation parts, where a hoist has to change from one station to another to deal with the work, and a jobs schedule has to be done. However, for this problem simulation was used for experimentation. In parallel, the scheduling of operating rooms was studied. Surgeries were allocated to surgeons and the scheduling of operating rooms was analysed. The first part of the research was done in a Teaching hospital, and for the second part the interaction of uncertainty was added. Once the previous problem had been analysed a general framework to characterize the instance was built. In the final chapter a general conclusion is presented. FINDINGS AND PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS The first part of the contributions is an update of the decision-making literature review. Also an analysis of the possible savings resulting from a change in the decision process is made. Then, the results of the survey, which present a lack of consistency between what the managers believe and the reality of the integration of their decisions. In the next stage of the thesis, a contribution to the body of knowledge of the operation research, with the joint solution of the replenishment, sequencing and inventory problem in the assembly line is made, together with a parallel work with the operating rooms scheduling where different solutions approaches are presented. In addition to the contribution of the solving methods, with the use of different techniques, the main contribution is the framework that is proposed to pre-evaluate the problem before thinking of the techniques to solve it. However, there is no straightforward answer as to whether it is better to have joint or sequential solutions. Following the proposed framework with the evaluation of factors such as the flexibility of the answer, the number of actors, and the tightness of the data, give us important hints as to the most suitable direction to take to tackle the problem. RESEARCH LIMITATIONS AND AVENUES FOR FUTURE RESEARCH In the first part of the work it was really complicated to calculate the possible savings of different projects, since in many papers these quantities are not reported or the impact is based on non-quantifiable benefits. The other issue is the confidentiality of many projects where the data cannot be presented. For the car assembly line problem more computational power would allow us to solve bigger instances. For the operation research problem there was a lack of historical data to perform a parallel analysis in the teaching hospital. In order to keep testing the decision framework it is necessary to keep applying more case studies in order to generalize the results and make them more evident and less ambiguous. The health care field offers great opportunities since despite the recent awareness of the need to improve the decision-making process there are many opportunities to improve. Another big difference with the automotive industry is that the last improvements are not spread among all the actors. Therefore, in the future this research will focus more on the collaboration between academia and the health care sector.

Phosphorylation is thought to be an essential first step in the prompt deactivation of photoexcited rhodopsin. In vitro, the phosphorylation can be catalyzed either by rhodopsin kinase (RK) or by protein kinase C (PKC). To investigate the specific role of RK, we inactivated both alleles of the RK gene in mice. This eliminated the light-dependent phosphorylation of rhodopsin and caused the single-photon response to become larger and longer lasting than normal. These results demonstrate that RK is required for normal rhodopsin deactivation. When the photon responses of RK−/− rods did finally turn off, they did so abruptly and stochastically, revealing a first-order backup mechanism for rhodopsin deactivation. The rod outer segments of RK−/− mice raised in 12-hr cyclic illumination were 50% shorter than those of normal (RK+/+) rods or rods from RK−/− mice raised in constant darkness. One day of constant light caused the rods in the RK−/− mouse retina to undergo apoptotic degeneration. Mice lacking RK provide a valuable model for the study of Oguchi disease, a human RK deficiency that causes congenital stationary night blindness.

Inflammation is associated with production of cytokines and chemokines that recruit and activate inflammatory cells. Interleukin (IL) 12 produced by macrophages in response to various stimuli is a potent inducer of interferon (IFN) γ production. IFN-γ, in turn, markedly enhances IL-12 production. Although the immune response is typically self-limiting, the mechanisms involved are unclear. We demonstrate that IFN-γ inhibits production of chemokines (macrophage inflammatory proteins MIP-1α and MIP-1β). Furthermore, pre-exposure to tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibited IFN-γ priming for production of high levels of IL-12 by macrophages in vitro. Inhibition of IL-12 by TNF can be mediated by both IL-10-dependent and IL-10-independent mechanisms. To determine whether TNF inhibition of IFN-γ-induced IL-12 production contributed to the resolution of an inflammatory response in vivo, the response of TNF+/+ and TNF−/− mice injected with Corynebacterium parvum were compared. TNF−/− mice developed a delayed, but vigorous, inflammatory response leading to death, whereas TNF+/+ mice exhibited a prompt response that resolved. Serum IL-12 levels were elevated 3-fold in C. parvum-treated TNF−/− mice compared with TNF+/+ mice. Treatment with a neutralizing anti-IL-12 antibody led to resolution of the response to C. parvum in TNF−/− mice. We conclude that the role of TNF in limiting the extent and duration of inflammatory responses in vivo involves its capacity to regulate macrophage IL-12 production. IFN-γ inhibition of chemokine production and inhibition of IFN-γ-induced IL-12 production by TNF provide potential mechanisms by which these cytokines can exert anti-inflammatory/repair function(s).

Natural killer T (NKT) cells constitute a distinct subpopulation of T cells with a unique antigen specificity, prompt effector functions, and an unusual tissue distribution. NKT cells are especially abundant in the liver, but their physiological function in this organ remains unclear. In the present study, we examined the possible contribution of NKT cells to a murine model of hepatitis induced by i.v. injection of Con A. CD1-deficient mice lacking NKT cells were highly resistant to Con A-induced hepatitis. Adoptive transfer of hepatic NKT cells isolated from wild-type mice, but not from FasL-deficient gld mice, sensitized CD1-deficient mice to Con A-induced hepatitis. Furthermore, adoptive transfer of hepatic mononuclear cells from wild-type mice, but not from CD1-deficient mice, sensitized gld mice to Con A-induced hepatitis. Upon Con A administration, hepatic NKT cells rapidly up-regulated cell surface FasL expression and FasL-mediated cytotoxicity. At the same time, NKT cells underwent apoptosis leading to their rapid disappearance in the liver. These results implicated FasL expression on liver NKT cells in the pathogenesis of Con A-induced hepatitis, suggesting a similar pathogenic role in human liver diseases such as autoimmune hepatitis.

The general transcription initiation factor TFIID was originally identified, purified, and characterized with a biochemical assay in which accurate transcription initiation is reconstituted with multiple, chromatographically separable activities. Biochemical analyses have demonstrated that TFIID is a multiprotein complex that directs preinitiation complex assembly on both TATA box-containing and TATA-less promoters, and some TFIID subunits have been shown to be molecular targets for activation domains in DNA-binding regulatory proteins. These findings have most commonly been interpreted to support the view that transcriptional activation by upstream factors is the result of enhanced TFIID recruitment to the core promoter. Recent insights into the architecture and cell-cycle regulation of the multiprotein TFIID complex prompt both a reassessment of the functional role of TFIID in gene activation and a review of some of the less well-appreciated literature on TFIID. We present a speculative model for diverse functional roles of TFIID in the cell, explore the merits of the model in the context of published data, and suggest experimental approaches to resolve unanswered questions. Finally, we point out how the proposed functional roles of TFIID in eukaryotic class II transcription fit into a model for promoter recognition and activation that applies to both eubacteria and eukaryotes.

Cell adhesion has a fundamental role in the proliferation and motility of normal cells and the metastasis of tumor cells. To identify signaling pathways activated by the adherence of tumor cells, we analyzed the tyrosine phosphorylation of proteins in mouse melanoma cells before and after attachment to substrata. We discovered that cellular adherence activated the protein-tyrosine kinase of the cell surface receptor Met, whose ligand is hepatocyte growth factor and scatter factor. The activation was exceedingly prompt, affected the great majority of Met in the cells, persisted so long as the cells remained adherent, and was rapidly reversed as soon as the cells were detached from substrata. Activation of Met required that cells be adherent but not that they spread on the substratum, and it occurred in the absence of any apparent ligand for the receptor. Ligand-independent activation of Met occurred in several varieties of tumor cells but not in normal endothelial cells that express the receptor. The activation of Met described here may represent a means by which cells respond to mechanical as opposed to biochemical stimuli.

The neural cell adhesion molecule (N-CAM) mediates homophilic binding between a variety of cell types including neurons, neurons and glia, and neurons and muscle cells. The mechanism by which N-CAM on one cell interacts with N-CAM on another, however, is unknown. Attempts to identify which of the five immunoglobulin-like domains (Ig I-V) and the two fibronectin type III repeats (FnIII 1-2) in the extracellular region of N-CAM are involved in this process have led to ambiguous results. We have generated soluble recombinant proteins corresponding to each of the individual immunoglobulin domains and the combined FnIII 1-2 and prepared polyclonal antibodies specific for each. The purified proteins and antibodies were used in aggregation experiments with fluorescent microspheres and chicken embryo brain cells to determine possible contributions of each domain to homophilic adhesion. The recombinant domains were tested for their ability to bind to purified native N-CAM, to bind to each other, and to inhibit the aggregation of N-CAM on microspheres and the aggregation of neuronal cells. Each of the immunoglobulin domains bound to N-CAM, and in solution all of the immunoglobulin domains inhibited the aggregation of N-CAM-coated microspheres. Soluble Ig II, Ig III, and Ig IV inhibited neuronal aggregation; antibodies against whole N-CAM, the Ig III domain, and the Ig I domain all strongly inhibited neuronal aggregation, as well as the aggregation of N-CAM-coated microspheres. Of all the domains, the third immunoglobulin domain alone demonstrated the ability to self-aggregate, whereas Ig I bound to Ig V and Ig II bound to Ig IV. The combined FnIII 1-2 exhibited a slight ability to self-aggregate but did not bind to any of the immunoglobulin-like domains. These results suggest that N-CAM-N-CAM binding involves all five immunoglobulin domains and prompt the hypothesis that in homophilic cell-cell binding mediated by N-CAM these domains may interact pairwise in an antiparallel orientation.

Of fundamental importance in understanding neuronal function is the unambiguous determination of the smallest unit of neuronal integration. It was recently suggested that a whole dendritic branchlet, including tens of spines, acts as the fundamental unit in terms of dendritic calcium dynamics in Purkinje cells. By contrast, we demonstrate that the smallest such unit is the single spine. The results show, by two-photon excited fluorescence laser scanning microscopy, that individual spines are capable of independent calcium activation. Moreover, two distinct spine populations were distinguished by their opposite response to membrane hyperpolarization. Indeed, in a subpopulation of spines calcium entry can also occur through a pathway other than voltage-gated channels. These findings challenge the assumption of a unique parallel fiber activation mode and prompt a reevaluation of the level of functional complexity ascribed to single neurons.

Coxiella burnetii is a Gram-negative obligate parasitic bacterium that causes the disease Q-fever in humans. To establish its intracellular niche, it utilizes the Icm/Dot type IVB secretion system (T4BSS) to inject protein effectors into the host cell cytoplasm. The host targets of most cognate and candidate T4BSS-translocated effectors remain obscure. We used the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model to express and study six C. burnetii effectors, namely AnkA, AnkB, AnkF, CBU0077, CaeA and CaeB, in search for clues about their role in C. burnetii virulence. When ectopically expressed in HeLa cells, these effectors displayed distinct subcellular localizations. Accordingly, GFP fusions of these proteins produced in yeast also decorated distinct compartments, and most of them altered cell growth. CaeA was ubiquitinated both in yeast and mammalian cells and, in S. cerevisiae, accumulated at juxtanuclear quality-control compartments (JUNQs) and insoluble protein deposits (IPODs), characteristic of aggregative or misfolded proteins. AnkA, which was not ubiquitinated, accumulated exclusively at the IPOD. CaeA, but not AnkA or the other effectors, caused oxidative damage in yeast. We discuss that CaeA and AnkA behavior in yeast may rather reflect misfolding than recognition of conserved targets in the heterologous system. In contrast, CBU0077 accumulated at vacuolar membranes and abnormal ER extensions, suggesting that it interferes with vesicular traffic, whereas AnkB associated with the yeast nucleolus. Both effectors shared common localization features in HeLa and yeast cells. Our results support the idea that C. burnetii T4BSS effectors manipulate multiple host cell targets, which can be conserved in higher and lower eukaryotic cells. However, the behavior of CaeA and AnkA prompt us to conclude that heterologous protein aggregation and proteostatic stress can be a limitation to be considered when using the yeast model to assess the function of bacterial effectors.

Vários países têm buscado investigar as emissões de gases do efeito estufa (GEE) e amônia (NH3) na atividade animal para melhor compreensão da dinâmica e excesso desses gases na atmosfera. As informações disponíveis na literatura sobre as emissões de GEE e NH3 em aviários são variáveis e incertas devido à diversidade e condições particulares das instalações, bem como das inúmeras diferenças no sistema de criação e das complexas interações observadas nos dejetos dos animais. A caracterização das emissões do setor avícola normalmente é realizada por monitoramento aéreo das concentrações dos gases dentro das instalações de produção. No entanto, alguns métodos adotados são insuficientes devido às interferências de outros gases, razão por que as medições podem não refletir, com exatidão, as emissões reais. Diante dessa complexidade, nesta pesquisa buscou-se aplicar técnicas que apresentam menores interferências, bem como desenvolver um sistema de amostragem para medir diretamente as emissões de N2O, CH4 e NH3 dos dejetos de frangos de corte. No desenvolvimento do método, utilizou-se como referência o princípio da câmara estática fechada e a análise por cromatografia gasosa (CG), para estimar as emissões de GEE. Para quantificação direta das emissões de NH3, adaptou-se um método semiaberto estático, baseado na captura, em meio ácido, do NH3 volatilizado dos dejetos das aves. Adicionalmente, buscou-se monitorar as emissões diárias de NH3, CH4 e N2O dos dejetos dos frangos, considerando o típico manejo de reutilização da cama de frango. Foram propostos modelos empíricos para as predições das emissões de N2O, CH4 e NH3, em função do número de reutilizações da cama, da idade das aves e de propriedades físico-químicas da cama de frango. As emissões acumuladas por quatro ciclos de criação permitiram calcular perdas anuais de 0,14, 0,35, e 72,0 g de N2O, CH4 e NH3 ave-alojada-1 ano-1, respectivamente. Considerando o número de frangos de corte alojados em 2015, a atividade avícola emitiu cerca de 545,1 Gg CO2eq pelo manejo dos dejetos nos aviários, correspondente a 0,04 kg CO2eq por kg de carne. Reduções de 21, 40 e 78% foram observadas nas emissões anuais de N2O, CH4 e NH3, respectivamente, ao utilizar (seis ciclos) a cama somente em um ciclo de criação. Contudo, um balanço de N foi conduzido para contabilizar as entradas e saídas de N na produção de frangos de corte durante os quatro ciclos de criação avaliados. A principal entrada de N no sistema foi pela ração, como entrada secundária, o N via cama de frango, o qual aumentou consideravelmente a cada ciclo de reutilização. Considerando que esta pesquisa apresenta uma metodologia aplicável e inovadora para determinar os fluxos de GEE em galpões abertos no país, os dados serão úteis para o inventário anual brasileiro das emissões de GEE oriundas dos dejetos da avicultura de corte. Os resultados são úteis também para incentivar novas pesquisas que possam avançar no conhecimento de impactos e alternativas de mitigação de GEE na produção de frangos de corte e, adicionalmente, conferir sustentabilidade à produção de carne no Brasil

El artículo analiza las iniciativas de comunicación relacionadas con la igualdad de oportunidades entre mujeres y hombres. El objetivo es analizar con enfoque de género las acciones realizadas por parte de las instituciones públicas regionales y locales para sensibilizar y promover la conciliación entre la vida familiar y laboral de seis comunidades autónomas (Andalucía, Cataluña, Comunidad Valenciana, Galicia, Madrid y País Vasco) y de sus capitales, desde 1999 (cuando se aprueba la ley de conciliación) hasta 2007 (se aprueba la ley de igualdad). La información sobre publicidad convencional fue proporcionada por Infoadex. Para la recogida de otro tipo de iniciativas a través de medios menos convencionales se acudió a cuatro fuentes institucionales: 1) Ayuntamientos de las capitales, como fuente estrictamente local, 2) Diputaciones de la capital de la Comunidad Autónoma, como fuente provincial, 3) Direcciones Generales de la Mujer o instituciones análogas como fuente de información a nivel regional o autonómico y, por último, 4) otras concejalías vinculadas al tema de la corresponsabilidad, cuyo radio de acción también es autonómico. Los resultados, aunque con diferencias entre regiones, reflejan carencias en la cobertura de las acciones que llevan a cuestionar la falta de estrategia política en términos de comunicación, pese a la introducción sistemática de estos objetivos en la agenda internacional (ONU y UE) y del gobierno español. En consecuencia, las campañas publicitarias e iniciativas recogidas contribuyen a la visibilización del problema y al empoderamiento, pero no tanto al objetivo de la paridad.

A large fraction of Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) displays an X-ray plateau phase within <105 s from the prompt emission, proposed to be powered by the spin-down energy of a rapidly spinning newly born magnetar. In this work we use the properties of the Galactic neutron star population to constrain the GRB-magnetar scenario. We re-analyze the X-ray plateaus of all Swift GRBs with known redshift, between 2005 January and 2014 August. From the derived initial magnetic field distribution for the possible magnetars left behind by the GRBs, we study the evolution and properties of a simulated GRB-magnetar population using numerical simulations of magnetic field evolution, coupled with Monte Carlo simulations of Pulsar Population Synthesis in our Galaxy. We find that if the GRB X-ray plateaus are powered by the rotational energy of a newly formed magnetar, the current observational properties of the Galactic magnetar population are not compatible with being formed within the GRB scenario (regardless of the GRB type or rate at z = 0). Direct consequences would be that we should allow the existence of magnetars and "super-magnetars" having different progenitors, and that Type Ib/c SNe related to Long GRBs form systematically neutron stars with higher initial magnetic fields. We put an upper limit of ≤16 "super-magnetars" formed by a GRB in our Galaxy in the past Myr (at 99% c.l.). This limit is somewhat smaller than what is roughly expected from Long GRB rates, although the very large uncertainties do not allow us to draw strong conclusion in this respect.
