Effect of heat treatment on the parameters of crystal structure and degree of crystallinity of poly(aryl-ether-ether-ketone)

The variations of unit cell parameters and crystallite size of nine PEEK samples treated at various temperatures have been studied by using Wide-Angle X-ray Diffraction (WAXD), The results indicate a decrease in unit cell parameter a,b and c but an increase in crystallite size L(hkl) With the increase beat treatment temperature. Based on X-ray scattering intensity theory and using the graphic multipeak resolution method, the formula of degree of crystallinity (W-c,W-X) for PEEK is derived. The results calculated are compatible with the density measurement and calorimetry.

Synthesis and crystal structure of [(C8H8)(3)(C6H5CH2C5H4)Nd2K(THF)3]

NdCl3 reacted with C6H5CH2C5H4Na in the ratio 1:1 at -78 degrees C giving [C6H5 CH2C5H4NdCl2 . nTHF], which then was reacted with C8H8K2/THF to yield the title complex [(C8H8)(3)(C6H5CH2C5H4)Nd2K(THF)(3)] (C6H5CH2C5H4 = benzylcyclopentadienyl). The crystal structure of the Nd complex was determined by X-ray diffraction and revealed that the benzyl group is coordinated to the potassium atom to form a new type of trinuclear complex [(eta(8)-C8H8)Nd(mu(2)-eta(8)-C8H8K(THF) (eta(3)-C6H5CH2-mu(2)-eta(5)-C5H4)Nd (THF)(2)(eta(8)-C8H8)]. Crystal structure of polypropylene filled with rare earth oxides

The effect of a fine powder of Y2O3, Nd2O3, and Ho2O3 on the crystal structure of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) was studied with WAXD and DSC techniques. The results showed that the addition of the three rare earth oxides (REOs) can increase the crystallite size of the alpha-form crystal and the degree of crystallinity of iPP at an annealing temperature of 120 degrees C and that both Y2O3 and Nd2O3 are the beta-nucleator of iPP. REOs enhance the overall growth rate of the spherulites of iPP. All the iPP samples filled with REOs which were crystallized isothermally at 132 degrees C from the melt exhibited their melting peaks of the beta-form on the DSC heating traces, indicating that the REOs are the nucleating agents for both the alpha- and beta-forms of iPP under isothermal conditions. WAXD and SAXS study on gamma-radiation damage to polyamide-1010 crystal structure

In the present work we attempt to settle the controversy on the district wherein the radiation induced reaction preferentially occurs through examining the structural changes of the irradiated polyamide-1010 specimens on both the crystallographic and the supermolecular level by using WAXD and SAXS techniques. Experimental results indicated that the chain crosslinking and scission of the irradiated specimens occur mainly in the amorphous region and on the crystal surface (or interphase), and extend into the inner portion of the crystal with increasing radiation dose.

Crystal structure of the blend of polyamide 1010 with a bismaleimide by WAXD and SAXS

The blend polyamide 1010/N,N'-(diphenylmethane-4,4'-diyl)bismaleimide (PA1010/ BMI) has been investigated by means of WAXD and SAXS. The results obtained with the help of the Ruland, variance and 1D EDCF analysis showed that the degree of crystallinity (W-c,W-x), crystallite size (L(hikl)), long period (L) and thickness of average crystal lamellae (d) decrease with BMI content. Experimental and calculated density values (rho(c)) are in good agreement. Addition of BMT to PA1010 causes an increase in structural distortion. The results from SAXS analysis also supported that a crystalline amorphous interphase exists in the lamellae of semicrystalline polymers, so that a three-phase model instead of the traditional two-phase model should be used.

Synthesis and crystal structure of (eta(8)-C8H8)Gd(eta(5)-C6H5CH2C5H4)center dot DME

LnCl(3) reacted with C6H5CH2C5H4Na in THF (tetrahydrofuran) in the ratio 1.1 at room temperature for 1 h giving C(6)H(5)CH(2)C(6)H(4)LnCl(2) . nTHF, which reacted with C8H8K2/THF and the crystals obtained were recrystallized in DME to yield the title complex. The crystal structure of (C8H8) Ln (C6H5CH2C5H4). DME was determined revealing that the Gd complex has one conformation. One benzylcyclopentadienyl (eta(5)), one cyclooctatetraenyl (eta(8)) and the two oxygen atoms of DME (dimethoxyethane) are coordinated to Gd with the effective coordination number of 10.

SYNTHESIS OF SOME CHIRAL LIQUID-CRYSTALS AND STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF INTRAMOLECULAR HYDROGEN-BONDING ON THE PHASE-BEHAVIOR

The synthesis of three new series of chiral Schiffs bases containing benzilideneaniline and 2-hydroxybenzilideneaniline moieties as mesogenic cores is presented. Differential scanning calorimetry, optical polarizing microscopy and X-ray diffraction measurements were used to study the phase transition temperatures and behaviour. The results reveal that most of these materials show chiral smectic mesomorphism.

A BINUCLEAR NICKEL(II) COMPLEX CONTAINING AN OXAMIDO-BRIDGE - SYNTHESIS, PROPERTIES AND X-RAY CRYSTAL-STRUCTURE OF [NI(OXAE)NI(PHEN)(2)](CLO4)(2)CENTER-DOT-3H2O

The binuclear complex [Ni(oxae)Ni(phen)2](ClO4)(2) . H2O (oxae=N,N'bis(2-aminoethyl) oxamido dianion, phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline) was prepared from the planar monomeric complex Ni(oxae) and characterized through analytical and spectroscopic measurements. The structure of [Ni(oxae)Ni(phen)(2)] (ClO4)2 . 3H(2)O was investigated by single-crystal X-ray analysis. The complex has an extended oxamido-bridged structure and consists of two nickel(II) ions, one of them in a square planar environment and another in a distorted octahedral environment. The Ni-Ni distance is 5.267 Angstrom.
