Islands of euchromatin-like sequence and expressed polymorphic sequences within the short arm of human chromosome 21

The goals of the human genome project did not include sequencing of the heterochromatic regions. We describe here an initial sequence of 1.1 Mb of the short arm of human chromosome 21 (HSA21p), estimated to be 10% of 21p. This region contains extensive euchromatic-like sequence and includes on average one transcript every 100 kb. These transcripts show multiple inter- and intrachromosomal copies, and extensive copy number and sequence variability. The sequencing of the "heterochromatic" regions of the human genome is likely to reveal many additional functional elements and provide important evolutionary information.

Parallel tracks for clinical scientists, basic scientists, and pediatric imagers was the novel approach taken for the highly successful 8th Annual Scientific Sessions of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, held in San Francisco, California, January 21 to 23, 2005. Attendees were immersed in information on the latest scientific advances in cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) from mice to man and technological advances from systems with field strengths from 0.5 T to 11.7 T. State-of-the-art applications were reviewed, spanning a wide range from molecular imaging to predicting outcome with CMR in large patient populations.

Un pueblo silenciado: el movimiento nacionalista saharaui en la agenda de la prensa nacional española (1970-2009)

El Sáhara Occidental, el último territorio del mundo pendiente de descolonización, hasufrido durante treinta años el olvido de España y la invasión marroquí. Por ello, elmovimiento nacionalista saharaui ha intentado acceder a la agenda política ymediática española para obtener una solución política al conflicto y el apoyo de laopinión pública de nuestro país.El presente proyecto de investigación propone un acercamiento totalmente inédito; el conflicto saharaui desde el punto de vista comunicativo. A través de las teorías de la agenda-setting y el framing se propone analizar qué marcos políticos ha construido el movimiento saharaui a lo largo de los últimos treinta años y qué incidencia ha obtenido en la prensa nacional española a través de los marcos mediáticos.

Rechazo medidado por anticuerpos en el trasplante pulmonar: serie de 21 casos

El rechazo mediado por anticuerpos (RMA) es una entidad establecida en el trasplante de órgano sólido (TOS), especialmente en el renal o cardíaco pero con controversias en otros como trasplante pulmonar (TP). Veintiún TP de un total de 207 entre 1990 y octubre de 2012 presentaron RMA (10%); todos presentaron disfunción clínica del injerto y criterios anatomo-patológicos; 8 de 17 (47.1%) con tinción C4d positiva y 7 de 21 (33.3%) con anticuerpos donante específicos. El tratamiento específico administrado fue la combinación de plasmaféresis, inmunoglobulinas y rituximab. Cuatro pacientes (19%) fueron éxitus por RMA y 13 (62%) presentaron mejoría clínica y funcional.
