In the second half of the last century the automobile industries suffered from the petroleum crisis caused mainly by the wars in the Middle East. These crises led the automakers rethink their vehicles. One of the most important events after that was the adoption of new steels by the industry. One example is the TRIP steels (Transformationinduced plasticity). It is known that the macroscopic behavior of a material is strongly dependent on its microstructure and therefore the quantitative metallography is important to understand and relate the material properties to its microstructure. In this work, different specimens of TRIP steels were etched using LePera reagent. The obtained images were analyzed using digital processing. Using the ImageJ software the methods threshold and watershed were studied as well as a comparison with the ASTM E562 standard. The methods were compared and finally the morphological characteristics and volumetric fraction of the retained austenite and martensite phases were analyzed. The results showed that the threshold led to a higher number of identified grains with lower mean area and total area fraction than the watershed method and ASTM standard

Thermosetting resins are very important in the production of MDF panels. They act as an adhesive in the process of compacting and consolidating the fiberboard. Thermoset resins commonly used in this process are based resin urea formaldehyde (UF) and melamine formaldehyde (MF). The first has a higher demand due to its low cost and good performance in meeting the specifications and standards. The second has a high cost compared to MF resin, but adds greater value to the MDF panel, because it gives greater moisture resistance. The process of manufacture of MDF boards was briefly presented in this study to facilitate the understanding of the work. Samples of thermosetting resins (UF and MF) were subjected to physical-chemical seeking to relate these results to the technological performance presented by their respective samples of MDF boards. Two other samples of MDF panels were subjected to physical and mechanical tests. Results were analyzed and related to the award of their respective thermoset resin. Instruments like Dahmos Trend Manager ® and Grecon Dax 5000 and TG - DSC analysis were used in this study to assist in the analysis of the results. It was observed that the results of the analysis of thermosetting resins were within the specified. Such resins do not directly influence the technological tests provided by the MDF panels, but it has been found that the process variables such as humidity and fiber production rate interfere with the performance of the resin accelerating the reaction and therefore their influence on the physical-mechanical properties of the panels MDF. Samples of MDF panels with UF and MF met all the specifications required by the Brazilian standard with regard to the technological quality. The increased demand for UF resin market is justified by the service specifications...

Dark Water is the title of the translation of a short story, ―Floating Water‖, from the book Honogurai mizu no soko kara by Koji Suzuki, originally published in Japan, that the Japanese director Hideo Nakata adapted for the cinema and that was remade by the Brazilian director Walter Salles Jr. The objective of this study is to analyse Walter Salles’ film to demonstrate how it resolved the problems of transcreation, whilst at the same time it fulfilled commercial and artistic functions and incorporated the traces of its aesthetic trajectory. In this case, attention is drawn to the types of relationship between literature and cinema, to the metalinguistic function as a generator of poetics and of an interesting dialogue between genres.

Aims: To investigate the role of TH (thyroid hormones) in 5'-nucleotidase activity and expression in cardiac soluble fraction (SF). Main methods: Male Wistar rats received daily injections of 14 (10, 25 or 50 mu g T4/100 g body weight) for 14 days to develop a hyperthyroidism condition. Thyroidectomy was performed in other animals to mimic hypothyroidism, and 14 days after surgery they were submitted to TH replacement therapy. Key findings: T4 reduced the 5'-nucleotidase activity (T4-25. P<0.05 and 14-50, P<0.01) in the SF. Conversely, hypothyroidism significantly increased the 5'-nucleotidase activity in this fraction (P<0.001) and TH replacement therapy reversed the latter result (P<0.001 compared to hypothyroid group). The analysis of protein expression in the SF showed that 5'-nucleotidase was more expressed in hypothyroid than in the control group and that the phosphorylated state of PKC observed in this condition may contribute to a possible mechanism of 5'-nucleotidase modulation by thyroid status. Significance: Taken together, these data reveal that TH can influence adenosine production by modulating 5'-nucleotidase activity and expression, which may contribute to the cardioprotective effect and the maintenance of cardiac function under TH privation. Smallanthus sonchifolius (Poepp.) H. Rob. , Asteraceae, known as yacon, is an herb that is traditionally used for the treatment of diabetes in folk medicine. However, recent studies have demonstrated that this plant has other interesting properties such as anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory actions. Thus, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the topical anti-inflammatory property of different extracts prepared from yacon leaves and analyze the role of different chemical classes in this activity. Three yacon leaf extracts were obtained: aqueous extract, where chlorogenic acid derivatives and sesquiterpene lactones were detected; leaf rinse extract, rich in sesquiterpene lactones; and polar extract, rich in chlorogenic acid derivatives. All the extracts exhibited anti-edematogenic activity in vivo (aqueous extract: 25.9% edema inhibition at 0.50 mg/ear; polar extract: 42.7% inhibition at 0.25 mg/ear; and leaf rinse extract: 44.1% inhibition at 0.25 mg/ear). The leaf rinse extract furnished the best results regarding neutrophil migration inhibition, and NO, TNF-? and PGE2 inhibition. These data indicate that both sesquiterpene lactones and chlorogenic acid derivatives contribute to the anti-inflammatory action, although sesquiterpene lactones seem to have more pronounced effects. In conclusion, yacon leaf extracts, particularly the sesquiterpene lactone-rich extract, has potential use as topical anti-inflammatory agent.

Swiss ambulatory care is characterized by independent, and primarily practice-based, physicians, receiving fee for service reimbursement. This study analyses supply sensitive services using ambulatory care claims data from mandatory health insurance. A first research question was aimed at the hypothesis that physicians with large patient lists decrease their intensity of services and bill less per patient to health insurance, and vice versa: physicians with smaller patient lists compensate for the lack of patients with additional visits and services. A second research question relates to the fact that several cantons are allowing physicians to directly dispense drugs to patients ('self-dispensation') whereas other cantons restrict such direct sales to emergencies only. This second question was based on the assumption that patterns of rescheduling patients for consultations may differ across channels of dispensing prescription drugs and therefore the hypothesis of different consultation costs in this context was investigated.
