This study aims at enhancing the understanding of the educational criticism in the beginning of the twentieth century, focusing on the ideas of Lima Barreto. Before the emergence of the "educational professionals", educational thought was developed by publicists and writers involved in a fertile debate, the results of which became visible in literary and journalistic production. Through the analysis of articles, short texts published in the press, novels and short stories written by Lima Barreto, it’s possible to gather a specific concept of education, underlying his criticism and fictional characterization of school education, as well as an interesting sketch of the cultural profile of Brazilian society at the time. Either explicitly or implicitly, in their evaluative and theoretical references, the limits of the critical readings of the author, which are expressed in the contradiction between negation of the given conditions and their affirmation, unveil the historical aspects of social and educational thinking and criticism.

This work is set in the context of the Hispanic-American literature of the twentieth century (in particular, Alejo Carpentier) viewed in a historical perspective. For this task, we focus on a specific writer’s work: the novel Baroque Concert (1974). The text is divided into three parts: the first deals with some topics concerning the intersection between sui generis Literature and History. Next, we focus on the Hispanic-American literary context, discussing it in an analytical perspective, with regard to its connections with the historical discourse. Finally, we analyze the novel Baroque Concert, by means of the basic concepts of the theory of historiographic metafiction.

This paper aims at rescuing some critical appraisals found in the high school anthology Autores Contemporâneos (1931), by the critic, philologist and writer João Ribeiro, one of the main Brazilian intellectual representatives of the first decades of the twentieth century. João Ribeiro, along with Coelho Neto and, Laudelino Freire, among others, took part in of the panel which compiled, in 1921, the Dicionário da Academia Brasileira de Letras. Therefore, we find the analytical process João Ribeiro, their theoretical observations, concepts and dilemmas which are appointed by him in literary history and criticism of the early twentieth century.

O presente estudo busca estabelecer quais as teorias que sustentam a preparação psicológica em praticantes de tênis de mesa. Para tal foram utilizadas as seguintes abordagens: Histórico do esporte no Brasil e no mundo; Ensino/aprendizagem; Método japonês; Método alemão; Método sueco; O método de iniciação nacional; A prática em si; Formações técnica e física; Aspectos psicológicos no tênis de mesa; Concentração; Ansiedade; Motivação. Com relação a preparação psicológica, esta pesquisa de reviso de literatura foca mostrar quais as teorias que sustentam esta preparação no tênis de mesa, através de uma reviso a cerca dos principais movimentos das psicologias dos sculos XIX e XX: o estruturalismo, a psicologia de William James, o funcionalismo, o behaviorismo, a psicologia dinâmica e a psicanálise. Ao estabelecer as teorias obtém-se o respaldo da preparação psicológica como é vista por pessoas ativas no esporte, proporcionando uma viso geral de dois pontos principais: qual a importância da preparação psicológica dos mesa-tenistas e como essa preparação está no meio esportivo, tanto no Brasil quanto no mundo

The progressive condylar resorption is a irreversible complication that can result in malocclusion and facial deformity that can happen especially in postoperative orthognathic surgery of mandibular advancement or combined surgery. Predominantly affect young women, bearers of malocclusions of skeletal class II and with incidence of temporomandibular disorders prior to surgical treatment. Its exact etiology and pathogenesis remain unclear. The purpose of this article is to make a literature review of the last 10 years on the progressive condylar resorption. For this, we used the Medline database for articles in the English language. Then, 13 articles were found, evaluated and compared on predisposing factors, etiology, diagnosis and clinical management.

The purpose of this revision was to explore the concept of Platform Switching in implantology and its acting in the clinical practice. The concept of platform switching will be considered together with a revision of pertinent literature, with the purpose of providing guidelines based on scientific evidences. The following databases were used: Pubmed, Library Cochrane and ISI in the last 17 years. The inclusion approaches were: clinical articles, laboratorials and of revision on the topic, in English language. 41 articles were selected, using the describers "platform switching dental implants", "platform shifting and dental implants", "expanded platform dental implant". In accordance with this revision, implant them platform switching they present a rate of more favorable bony remodeling that you implant them conventional. This fact seems to be resulting of a group of biological factors and mechanics. The concept of platform switching has important relevance in the aesthetic area.

Titanium dental implants have been common practice in the dental office, which can increases the number of allergic reactions to this material. Objectives: to alert dental surgeons and specialists of this possible phenomenon through a literature review. Material and methods: an electronic search at PubMed was performed with the keywords “dental implants, “titanium”, and “allergy” from January 1990 to May 2013. Only articles published in the English language were included. Letters to editor were excluded. Results: from the 22 initially retrieved articles, only 7 were included, being 4 clinical case reports and 3 experimental studies. For clinical cases, the reactions included edema, erythema, exfoliative cheilitis, and eczema. Regarding experimental studies, skin rash and dermatitis were reported. A patch test was not used in two clinical reports. Only one study used histological analysis to attest the lack of allergic reactions. Conclusion: within the limits of the available literature, allergic reactions to titanium dental implants are extremely rare and seem to be related to the female gender. More controlled clinical studies are necessary to elucidate this question.

Entre os registros culturais que participam do processo de produção de representações sobre a escola e o cotidiano escolar, a literatura brasileira dos sculos XIX e XX ocupa um lugar privilegiado. Tomando a escola como tema de fabulação, algumas das obras publicadas no período compõem imagens que remetem o leitor à vida cotidiana dessa instituição, em suas relações com a vida familiar e o mundo que a cerca. Ao referir-se aos objetos materiais, ao trabalho dos professores, à organização escolar, aos impressos que ali circulam, às relações que se estabelecem entre os seus integrantes, aos medos, angústias, alegrias, sensações e sentimentos que acompanham tal vivência, essas obras produzem representações que permitem uma identificação e uma aproximação entre a vida dos personagens e a do leitor. As representações sobre a escola e suas práticas, postas em circulação por meio das obras literárias, adquirem múltiplos sentidos e, de alguma forma, participam dos processos pelos quais atribuímos sentidos à nossa própria experiência escolar. Por meio da leitura de registros literários sobre a experiência da escolarização, este texto procura flagrar a escola em sua cotidianidade, indagando sobre os modos como os sujeitos representam a instituição escolar.
