Tutors grants for £77.8.4, 1773

Handwritten receipt signed by Joseph Willard, John Marsh, John Marsh, Andrew Eliot Jr., John Wadsworth, and S. Hall acknowledging money received between August 20th and 23rd, 1773. A handwritten transcription of the Corporation vote on September 7, 1772 that, "the Tutors be allowed in addition to their salary twenty pounds," is signed as a true copy by President Samuel Locke at the beginning of the document.

Annotated almanac, 1773

Almanac with minimal and sporadic annotations on the calendar pages by John Winthrop. The title page is inscribed "Man wants but little here below, / nor wants that little long" in Winthrop's hand. There are a few entries noting household activities and the weather including a drought.

Annotated almanac, 1773

Almanac containing two laid-in pages and calendar pages typically annotated with one or two notes at the bottom recording household activities in Hannah and John Winthrops' hands. Laid into the volume are two pieces of paper with a tabulation of butter in Hannah Winthrop's hand, and baptisms and deaths in the community, and a bill of mortality for 1773 in John Winthrop's hand, and a chart of burials and baptisms for the first parish in Cambridge for the years 1764-1771.

Consists of the 1773 published broadside cut into strips and pasted into a blank volume. Names are annotated with biographical notes, most often location of residence, and occasionally professional information and death dates. Bound in brown paper cover.

Lectures on Hebrew and Oriental Literature, delivered in Harvard College between the years 1765 and 1782, by Stephen Sewall, AM, AAS Hancock Professor, Volume 1 1765-1767

The volume contains handwritten copies of lectures delivered by Sewall to students, an 1780 letter from Antoine Court de Gébelin written in French and glued into the front inside cover, a preface to the set of lectures, an autobiographical sketch of Sewall, and the statutes governing the Hancock Professorship of Hebrew and other Oriental Languages.

This one-page printed form appoints Thomas Wigglesworth as the "true and lawful Attorney" for Stephen Sewall. The form is notarized by Samuel Barrett and witnessed by Barrett and his daughter Peggy Barrett.

[Copy of a letter from Mehetabel Preble to her son Stephen Sewall], 1768 January 23

Handwritten copy of a January 23, 1768 letter from Mehetabel Preble to her son Stephen Sewall transcribed by Sewall. The bottom of the page is cut off and some text is missing. In the letter, Preble mentions Sewall's news of the birth of her granddaughter, the death of one of her sons, and discusses her health and approaching death, and the absence of God's "divine light." The item includes the note: "NB. The above letter was rec'd 18th March, 1768. My mother died the 4th day of the same month," and an extract from a February 29, 1768 letter from "Brother Crosby" regarding Preble's illness and anticipation of death.
