Low temperature amorphous and nanocrystalline silicon thin film transistors deposited by Hot-Wire CVD on glass substrate

Amorphous and nanocrystalline silicon films obtained by Hot-Wire Chemical Vapor Deposition have been incorporated as active layers in n-type coplanar top gate thin film transistors deposited on glass substrates covered with SiO 2. Amorphous silicon devices exhibited mobility values of 1.3 cm 2 V - 1 s - 1, which are very high taking into account the amorphous nature of the material. Nanocrystalline transistors presented mobility values as high as 11.5 cm 2 V - 1 s - 1 and resulted in low threshold voltage shift (∼ 0.5 V).

Film-free laser forward printing of transparent and weakly absorbing liquids

A laser-based technique for printing transparent and weakly absorbing liquids is developed. Its principle of operation relies in the tight focusing of short laser pulses inside the liquid and close to its free surface, in such a way that the laser radiation is absorbed in a tiny volume around the beam waist, with practically no absorption in any other location along the beam path. If the absorbed energy overcomes the optical breakdown threshold, a cavitation bubble is generated, and its expansion results in the propulsion of a small fraction of liquid which can be collected on a substrate, leading to the printing of a microdroplet for each laser pulse. The technique does not require the preparation of the liquid in thin film form, and its forward mode of operation imposes no restriction concerning the optical properties of the substrate. These characteristics make it well suited for printing a wide variety of materials of interest in diverse applications. We demonstrate that the film-free laser forward printing technique is capable of printing microdroplets with good resolution, reproducibility and control, and analyze the influence of the main process parameter, laser pulse energy. The mechanisms of liquid printing are also investigated: time-resolved imaging provides a clear picture of the dynamics of liquid transfer which allows understanding the main features observed in the printed droplets.

A fully automated hot-wall multiplasma-monochamber reactor for thin film deposition

We present a study on the development and the evaluation of a fully automated radio-frequency glow discharge system devoted to the deposition of amorphous thin film semiconductors and insulators. The following aspects were carefully addressed in the design of the reactor: (1) cross contamination by dopants and unstable gases, (2) capability of a fully automated operation, (3) precise control of the discharge parameters, particularly the substrate temperature, and (4) high chemical purity. The new reactor, named ARCAM, is a multiplasma-monochamber system consisting of three separated plasma chambers located inside the same isothermal vacuum vessel. Thus, the system benefits from the advantages of multichamber systems but keeps the simplicity and low cost of monochamber systems. The evaluation of the reactor performances showed that the oven-like structure combined with a differential dynamic pumping provides a high chemical purity in the deposition chamber. Moreover, the studies of the effects associated with the plasma recycling of material from the walls and of the thermal decomposition of diborane showed that the multiplasma-monochamber design is efficient for the production of abrupt interfaces in hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) based devices. Also, special attention was paid to the optimization of plasma conditions for the deposition of low density of states a-Si:H. Hence, we also present the results concerning the effects of the geometry, the substrate temperature, the radio frequency power and the silane pressure on the properties of the a-Si:H films. In June 2009, the Iowa Department of Human Service (IDHS) developed a Child and Family Service Plan (CFSP) that sets forth the Department’s vision and goals to be accomplished for FYs 2010 through 2014. The purpose of the CFSP is to strengthen the States’ overall child welfare system and to facilitate the state’s integration of the programs that serve children and families into a comprehensive and continuum array of child welfare services from prevention and protection through permanency. These programs include title IV-B, subparts 1 and 2 of the Act, the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), the Chafee Foster Care Independence Program (CFCIP), and the Education and Training Vouchers (ETV) programs for older and/or former foster care youth. IDHS administers the IV-B, CAPTA, CFCIP and the ETV programs described within Iowa’s CFSP. Iowa’s Annual Progress and Services Report (APSR) provides an annual update on the progress made toward accomplishing the goals and objectives identified in the state’s CFSP for the previous fiscal year (2009-2010) and the planned activities for next fiscal year (2010-2011) .

Videvdad 19 : édition critique, traduction et commentaires des textes avestique et moyen-perse

Notre travail porte sur le Videvdad, texte avestique nommé d'après unmot avestique Videvdad-data-, c'est-à-dire la « Un qui tient éloignés les demons ». Ce recueil comprend 22 chapitres édictant des lois religieuses, des préceptes rituels et des mesures de purification Ces prescriptions ont pour but de repousser l'impureté des elements purs de la création d'Ahura Mazda. Notre thèse est une édition du chapitre 19 de ce recueil complétée de sa traduction commentée. Ce chapitre raconte la tentation de Zarathustra par le Mauvais Esprit et sa victoire sur ce dernier Le texte a été traduit et commenté sémantiquement, phonétiquement et philologiquement afin d'en dégager les particularités linguistiques.L'édition de référence du texte avestique est celle de Geldner, qui date de la fin du 19 siècle Dans la mesure où il a été démontré durant ces dernières années quil fallait revoir ce travail, nous avons fait une édition du texte en collationnant 13 manuscits. Notre étude nous a permis à la fois de proposer pour certains termes une autre lecture que celle de Geldner et decontinuer les recherches sur la filiation des manuscrits.De plus le texte avestique a été mis en regard de la version pehlevie. L'intérêt de cette dernière traduction réside dans ses gloses : parfois un long commentaire parfois une simple énonciation de synonymes en pehlevie. le traducteur lui-même comprenant mal le sens du mot original. L'édition du texte pehlevi a également été refaite à partir des deux manuscrits lesplus anciens (L4 et Kl).Videvdad 19 :Critical Edition, Translation and Commentary of the Avestan and Pahlavi TextsWe worked on the Videvdad, an Avestan text whose title is a Middle Persian word coming from the Avestan Videvdad-data- "the law that keeps demons away" This anthology contains 22 chapters dealing with religious laws, ritual precepts and measures of purification. These prescriptions aim ft rejecting impurity from pure elements in Ahura Mazda's creation. Our dissertation is an edition and translation with commentary of chapter 19 of this anthology. lt relates the temptation of Zarathustra by the Bad Evil and how Zarathustra overcame him. The text was translated and annotated semantically, phonetically and philologically to highlight linguistic features.Until today, Geldner's edition, which dates back to the end of the 19th century has been the edition of reference. However, in recent years, scholars have shown that this edition must be revised Therefore, we prepared an edition of the Avestan text by collating 13 manuscripts. This work led us to propose new readings for several words and pursue research onmanuscripts filiation.Furthermore, we also studied the Middle Persian text. This translation is interesting in that it contains glosses that can either be long commentaries or simple synonyms. We also made the edition of the Middle Persian text on the basis of the two oldest manuscripts (L4 and Kl).

Three-dimensional aspects of fluid flows in channels. II. Effects of meniscus and thin film regimes on viscous fingers

We perform a three-dimensional study of steady state viscous fingers that develop in linear channels. By means of a three-dimensional lattice-Boltzmann scheme that mimics the full macroscopic equations of motion of the fluid momentum and order parameter, we study the effect of the thickness of the channel in two cases. First, for total displacement of the fluids in the channel thickness direction, we find that the steady state finger is effectively two-dimensional and that previous two-dimensional results can be recovered by taking into account the effect of a curved meniscus across the channel thickness as a contribution to surface stresses. Second, when a thin film develops in the channel thickness direction, the finger narrows with increasing channel aspect ratio in agreement with experimental results. The effect of the thin film renders the problem three-dimensional and results deviate from the two-dimensional prediction.

Three-dimensional aspects of fluid flows in channels. I. Meniscus and thin film regimes

We study the forced displacement of a fluid-fluid interface in a three-dimensional channel formed by two parallel solid plates. Using a lattice-Boltzmann method, we study situations in which a slip velocity arises from diffusion effects near the contact line. The difference between the slip and channel velocities determines whether the interface advances as a meniscus or a thin film of fluid is left adhered to the plates. We find that this effect is controlled by the capillary and Péclet numbers. We estimate the crossover from a meniscus to a thin film and find good agreement with numerical results. The penetration regime is examined in the steady state. We find that the occupation fraction of the advancing finger relative to the channel thickness is controlled by the capillary number and the viscosity contrast between the fluids. For high viscosity contrast, lattice-Boltzmann results agree with previous results. For zero viscosity contrast, we observe remarkably narrow fingers. The shape of the finger is found to be universal.
