Fuerza de blanco de anchoveta (Engraulis Ringens) utilizando frecuencias de 38 y 120 kHz

Se realizaron experimentos con peces vivos a fin de determinar el valor de la Fuerza de Blanco de anchoveta (Engraulis ringens) utilizando frecuencias de 38 y 120 kHz en la Bahía Paraíso (11°12 'S) a bordo del BIC Humboldt entre los días 01 y 07 de noviembre de 1997. Se colectaron especímenes vivos utilizando dos lanchas de apoyo a bordo de las cuales se mantuvo viva la muestra, empleando tanques de fibra de vidrio con circulación de agua de mar. Las muestras fueron trasladadas al vivero principal ubicado amarrado al BIC Humboldt para aclimatar los especimenes por 24 horas. Luego, se iniciaron las series de experimentos de otras 24 horas (dos para 38 kHz y dos para 120 kHz) consistentes en la medición de la ecointegración total de la jaula versus el interior de la misma. Los resultados fueron obtenidos utilizando hoja de cálculo.

Distribución y rangos preferenciales de temperatura y salinidad de los recursos pelágicos deurante el otoño de 1998. Crucero BIC Humboldt 9803-05 de Tumbes a Tacna

Describe la distribución, concentración y rangos preferenciales de temperatura y salinidad de los principales recursos pelágicos: anchoveta, sardina, jurel y caballa; y adicionalmente de la samasa por el significativo nivel de abundancia determinado durante el Crucero (otoño 1998). Para la distribución y concentración se utilizó una ecosonda científica SIMRAD EK 500 con frecuencias de 38 y 120 kHz en un rango de detección de 3,5 a 400 m de profundidad, distribuidos en nueve capas de integración. Para el muestreo acústico se utilizó una grilla sistemática paralela con una separación de 12 mn entre transectos; se realizaron en total 391 lances de pesca de arrastre pelágico para la comprobación de ecorregistros (BIC Humboldt y lanchas). Las áreas de distribución de cada recurso se determinaron mediante un programa de software de interpolación de datos. Para la determinación de los rangos preferenciales de temperatura y salinidad se utilizó un CTD y botellas Niskin hasta los 300 m de profundidad. Los análisis se realizaron a bordo por el método de inducción.

Estimados de biomasa y distribución del krill (Euphausia superba), utilizando 38 y 120 kHz. Verano austral 1998. Perú Antar IX

Con el objetivo de evaluar la biomasa y distribución del krill se llevó a cabo un Crucero de Evaluación Hidroacústica a bordo del BIC Humboldt entre los días 12 y 24 de enero de 1998, a largo del Estrecho de Bransfield y alrededores de la Isla Elefante. Previamente se efectuaron calibraciones de la ecosonda SIMRAD EK 500 utilizando blanco estándar. El trayecto utilizado para el muestreo acústico fue sistemático, paralelo con separaciones de 15 y 12 mn (Estrecho Bransfield e Isla Elefante, respectivamente). Se utilizaron frecuencias de 38 y 120 kHz; la frecuencia de 120 kHz se determinó para la detección entre 2 y 150 mn de profundidad y la de 38 kHz entre 150 - 400 m. Para obtener el área de distribución del krill se utilizó un software de interpolación de datos; y para estimados de biomasa, la metodología de estratificación por cuadrantes de 0,5 - de latitud 1,0 - de longitud. Los resultados obtenidos indican que el krill se encontró en gran parte del área evaluada, con las mayores concentraciones cerca de la Isla D 'Urville, al este de la Isla Rey Jorge, sur de la Isla Robert y en áreas cercanas a la Isla Elefante, distribuidas principalmente entre 50 y 100 m de profundidad.

Rituximab, bendamustine, and lenalidomide in patients with aggressive B cell lymphoma not eligible for high-dose chemotherapy or anthracycline-based therapy: phase I results of the SAKK 38/08 trial.

This phase I trial was designed to develop a new effective and well-tolerated regimen for patients with aggressive B cell lymphoma not eligible for front-line anthracycline-based chemotherapy or aggressive second-line treatment strategies. The combination of rituximab (375 mg/m(2) on day 1), bendamustine (70 mg/m(2) on days 1 and 2), and lenalidomide was tested with a dose escalation of lenalidomide at three dose levels (10, 15, or 20 mg/day) using a 3 + 3 design. Courses were repeated every 4 weeks. The recommended dose was defined as one level below the dose level identifying ≥2/6 patients with a dose-limiting toxicity (DLT) during the first cycle. Thirteen patients were eligible for analysis. Median age was 77 years. WHO performance status was 0 or 1 in 12 patients. The Charlson Comorbidity Index showed relevant comorbidities in all patients. Two DLTs occurred at the second dose level (15 mg/day) within the first cycle: one patient had prolonged grade 3 neutropenia, and one patient experienced grade 4 cardiac adverse event (myocardial infarction). Additional grade 3 and 4 toxicities were as follows: neutropenia (31 %), thrombocytopenia (23 %), cardiac toxicity (31 %), fatigue (15 %), and rash (15 %). The dose of lenalidomide of 10 mg/day was recommended for a subsequent phase II in combination with rituximab 375 mg/m(2) on day 1 and bendamustine 70 mg/m(2) on days 1 and 2.

This chapter presents a series of case studies with multiple choice questions and answers that focus on the pitfalls in the diagnosis of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. It commences with a discourse on the diagnosis B-cell lymphomas. A subset of aggressive and high grade B-cell lymphomas that feature characteristics intermediate between those of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and Burkitt lymphoma (BL) are grouped together under the designation BCLU-DLBCL/BL. The chapter discusses the diagnosis of nodular lymphocytic predominant Hodgkin lymphoma (NLPHL). It also focuses on the diagnosis of primary mediastinal (thymic) large B-cell lymphoma T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma, pediatric follicular lymphoma, and cyclin D1-negative mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
