ABSTRACT Academic formation of professional architects, under the scientific and disciplinary approaches, isolate from space and social reality, as a model of knowledge and formation, leads to the development of a contemporary praxis of consultation and collective creation, taken by the designers as a starting point for the formal exploration of concerted urban design projects and social research. This project of formative research involving civil and academic initiative is based on a diagnostic method and participative design for the evaluation and intervention of Pamplona‘s architectural and urban heritage, specifically applied to the design of public space, in its historical center, based in the relationship that is built between the architects in formation and the community.

ABSTRACT THE PHENOMENON OF THE WRITINGS IN THE CONTEMPORARY CITY. This essay is the result of a research done for my doctoral thesis on the graphic interventions in public spaces in the city of Medellin, Colombia. We focused on two types of actions: the first graphic interventions correspond to the commercial sector and, the second, to those that differ from it to get into the fields of graffiti and its variants, but they all have something in common, the architectural cladding and infrastructure as their support. The methodology begins as a field work where images are collected in a variety of graphic typologies found in the city, and then to problematize their results such as the conflicts over the use of public space; the assessment has been drawn from the speeches of their authors and built through interviews. The results are a journey all the way through the particularities of aesthetic gestures, which differ in techniques, motivations, resulting images in a public space full of symbolic re-building, that lead to the establishment of new spaces for social communication. The conclusions are aimed at conceiving a vital space for citizens that, whether they are within or outside the mechanisms of social control, take over to give it new meanings, as well as providing the public space with different, divergent and sometimes conflicting aesthetic configurations. Keywords: graffiti, advertising, public space, city, Medellin.

ABSTRACT The main objective of this thesis is the search for methodologies, tools, and processes in the performance arts and visual arts, that could be applied both to architectural analysis and project processes, in order to construct an investigation of movement in the architectural space. Rudolf Laban, Anne Bogart, Adolphe Appia, Cedric Price, Joan Littlewood, and Hélio Oiticica, are practitioners who have worked within different areas of enquiry from the existing relations between body, space and movement. The works and proposals by each of these practitioners, enables us to approach the space from five scales, having the body as the basic unit: (1) body and surrounding space (Rudolf Laban) (2) body and geometry (Anne Bogart) (3) Body and scenic space (Adolphe Appia) (4) Body and program (Joan Littlewood/ Cedric Price) (5) Body and landscape (Hélio Oiticica) The work of these practitioners is essential in informing further investigation into spatial experience. The theories proposed within this thesis are linked to the scales detailed within their work, which allows for an empirical exploration of some notably problematic areas. Some of them --‐ Kinesferas Virtuales, Envolventes and Microacciones in Greece --‐ explore the presence of the body in the space. In Kinetography I and II, kinetography is used to create these dynamic cartographies. The series CartografíasDinámicas (I, II and III), analyses movement in geometrically controlled spaces, through the Viewpoints techniques, by Anne Bogart. Finally, Kinetography III, proposes the analysis of an urban public space, through the transcription of the body movement.

This research studies urban soundscapes through the comparative analysis of twelve public open spaces in the city of Córdoba (Argentina), taken as case studies. The work aims to examine selection of indicators and assessment tools intended to characterize soundscape quality. The field study was carried out through surveys and acoustic and psychoacoustic indicators, that are used together to objectively describe the sound quality of urban spaces. The study shows that, while there is a relationship of these indicators with the sound quality of the spaces, this is not linear. Their relative importance or influence depends on the interrelations occurring between the parameters studied. A model analyzing and correlating the parameters with the sound quality, based on the postulates of fuzzy logic, was applied as a tool of analysis, and it was seen to achieve a very close approximation to the subjective or perceptual response of the inhabitants. This close match between the model results and the perceptual response of the users confirms the fuzzy model as an effective tool for the study, not only of soundscapes, but also for those situations in which objective parameters must be related to the perceptual response of users.

This paper presents an analysis of the performance of TerraSAR-X for subsidence monitoring in urban areas. The city of Murcia has been selected as a test-site due to its high deformation rate and the set of extensometers deployed along the city that provide validation data. The obtained results have been compared with those obtained from ERS/ENVISAT data belonging to the same period and validated with the in-situ measurements.
