This study aimed to evaluate and characterize the chemical properties of soil organic matter under two periodically flooded forest formations on the island of Marambaia, Rio de Janeiro. These formations differ on the degree of soil water saturation, caused by the influence of water table, and in the (F1) formation presents the water table nearer the surface compared to the (F2) formation. Samples were collected in layers from 0.00 to 0.05, 0.05-0.10 and 0.10-0.20 m. The soil properties evaluated were: pH, H+ + Al+ 3, Ca+2, Mg+2, Na+, K+, P, N, total organic carbon (TOC) and base saturation (V%), humin carbon fraction (C-HUM), carbon of humic acid fraction (HAF-C) and fulvic acid fraction carbon (FAF-C). Statistically higher pH values were observed for F1. In F2 there are higher values of Mg+2, P, N and V% value. Correlation was found between the concentrations of Mg+2, N, humic acid and fulvic acid with water table in F1, and water table in F2 with Na+ and K+. Fraction C-HUM was more representative of the total organic carbon, followed by C-HAF and C-FAF. The TOC levels were higher in F1. The C /N ratio was lower in F2, with values ranging between 9 and 12, and F1 were found higher values of this relationship, ranging from 9 to 15. Among the pathways of formation of organic soils in both areas it appears that the major route for organic matter accumulation is the inheritance route.

The correct spatial intervention in the administration of the plantation, arising from specific areas of soil mapping, can increase your productivity as well as profitability and yields in agriculture. The spatial and Pearson's relationships between sugarcane attributes and chemical attributes of a Typic Tropustalf were studied in the growing season of 2010, in Suzanapolis, State of Sao Paulo, Brazil (20 degrees 27'33 '' S lat.; 51 degrees 08'05 '' W long.), in order to obtain the attributes that had the best sugarcane productivity relationship. To this end, a geostatistical grid containing 118 sample points was installed for soil and plant data collection in an area of 10.5 ha with the third crop cut. The productivity of sugarcane (PRO) represented the attribute of the plant, while the attributes of the soil were: K+, Ca+2, Mg+2 and organic matter at depths of 0-0.20 m and 0.20-0.40 m. Relationships were calculated between the PRO and the attributes of the soil. Semivariograms were adjusted for all attributes, obtaining the respective krigings and the cross-validations. It was also made the cokrigings between the PRO and the soil attributes. The levels of the soil organic matter, for their evident substantial correlations, Sperman's Rho and spatial, with the productivity of sugarcane, are indicators of two specific areas of soil management strongly associated with the productivity of sugarcane. In such zones this productivity varies between 75.8-94.7 t ha(-1) and 101.0-119.9 t ha(-1), when the levels of organic matter respectively are 12.7-14.5 g dm(-3) (0-0.20 m) and 11.8-12.8 g dm(-3) (0.20-0.40 m).

To assess the importance of the leucine residues in positions 262 and 265 of the angiotensin AT, receptor for signaling pathways and receptor expression and regulation, we compared the properties of CHO cells transfected with the wild type or the L262D or L265D receptor point mutants. It was found that the two mutants significantly increased the basal intracellular cyclic AMP (cAMP) formation in an agonist-independent mode. The morphology transformation of CHO cells was correlated with the increased cAMP formation, since forskolin, a direct activator of adenylate cyclase mimicked this effect on WT-expressing CHO cells. DNA synthesis was found to be inhibited in these cell lines, indicating that cAMP may also have determined the inhibitory effect on cell growth, in addition to the cell transformation from a tumorigenic to a non-tumorigenic phenotype. However a role for an increased Ca2(+) influx induced by the mutants in non-stimulated cells cannot be ruled out since this ion also was shown to cause transformed cells to regain the morphology and growth regulation. The eggs are pointed in several studies as the main cause of human salmonellosis. Have been identified that eggs are eaten raw or poorly processed are mainly responsible for outbreaks of human infection with Salmonella spp. Besides causing problems to public health, the presence of bacteria impedes or hinders the international food trade, as a sanitary barrier. Several factors predisposing to contamination of the internal contents of eggs for Salmonella spp., including the egg shell quality (shell quality), which is related to levels of calcium (Ca) and phosphorus (P) in the diet of quails . The experiment used eggs of Japanese quail under different diets containing two levels of Ca (2.0 and 3.5%) and two levels of available P (0.25 and 0.45%). Eggs of 120 japanese quails were divided into four treatments with three replicates. The experiment was divided into three production stages: initial, intermediate and final. Were assessed at each stage the presence of bacteria in internal and external content of experimentally contaminated eggs during periods of 0, 24, 96 and 168 hours after immersion in broth containing Salmonella Enteriditis. Salmonella Enteriditis was detected in the shell during all periods of storage, in decreasing amounts in all treatments. None of the treatments within the three production stages analyzed, we detected significant amounts of the bacteria inside the egg, in our experimental conditions. Therefore, the levels of Ca and P in the diets of quail do not determine higher or lower risks to public health represented by eggs

A pectin lyase, named PLIII, was purified to homogeneity from the culture filtrate of Aspergillus giganteus grown in submerged culture containing orange peel waste as carbon source. PLIII was able to digest apple pectin and citrus pectins with different degrees of methyl esterification. Interestingly, the PLIII activity was stimulated in the presence of some divalent cations including Pb(2+) and was not significantly affected by Hg(2+). Like other pectin lyases, PLIII is stimulated by but is not dependent on Ca(2+). The main soluble product released during the degradation of pectic substances promoted by the PLIII is compatible with an unsaturated monogalacturonate. PLIII is a unique enzyme able to release unsaturated monogalacturonate as the only soluble product during the degradation of pectic substances; therefore, PLIII was classified as an exo-pectin lyase. To our knowledge, this is the first characterization of an exo-pectin lyase. The PLIII described in this work is potentially useful for ethanol production from pectin-rich biomass, besides other common applications for alkaline pectinases like preparation of textile fibers, coffee and tea fermentation, vegetable oil extraction, and the treatment of pulp in papermaking.
