OBJECTIVES To explore the experiences of oncology staff with communicating safety concerns and to examine situational factors and motivations surrounding the decision whether and how to speak up using semistructured interviews. SETTING 7 oncology departments of six hospitals in Switzerland. PARTICIPANTS Diverse sample of 32 experienced oncology healthcare professionals. RESULTS Nurses and doctors commonly experience situations which raise their concerns and require questioning, clarifying and correcting. Participants often used non-verbal communication to signal safety concerns. Speaking-up behaviour was strongly related to a clinical safety issue. Most episodes of 'silence' were connected to hygiene, isolation and invasive procedures. In contrast, there seemed to exist a strong culture to communicate questions, doubts and concerns relating to medication. Nearly all interviewees were concerned with 'how' to say it and in particular those of lower hierarchical status reflected on deliberate 'voicing tactics'. CONCLUSIONS Our results indicate a widely accepted culture to discuss any concerns relating to medication safety while other issues are more difficult to voice. Clinicians devote considerable efforts to evaluate the situation and sensitively decide whether and how to speak up. Our results can serve as a starting point to develop a shared understanding of risks and appropriate communication of safety concerns among staff in oncology.

Myxozoans evoke important economic losses in aquaculture production, but there is almost a total lack of disease control methods as no vaccines or commercial treatments are currently available. Knowledge of the immune responses that lead to myxozoan elimination and subsequent disease resistance is vital for shaping the future development of disease control measures. Different fish immune factors triggered by myxozoan parasites are reviewed in this chapter. Detailed information on the phenotypic and underlying molecular aspects of innate and adaptive responses, at both cellular and humoral levels, is provided for some well-studied fishmyxozoan systems. The importance of the local immune response, mainly at mucosal sites, is also highlighted. Myxozoan tactics to disable or avoid immune responses, such as modulation of immune gene transcription and immune evasion, are also reviewed. The existence of innate and acquired resistance to some myxozoan species suggest promising possibilities for controlling myxozooses through immune-based strategies, such as genetic selection for host resistance, vaccination, immune therapies and administration of immunostimulants.

Over the past several decades a variety of models have been proposed to explain perceived behavioral and cognitive differences between Neanderthals and modern humans. A key element in many of these models and one often used as a proxy for behavioral “modernity” is the frequency and nature of hunting among Palaeolithic populations. Here new archaeological data from Ortvale Klde, a late Middle–early Upper Palaeolithic rockshelter in the Georgian Republic, are considered, and zooarchaeological methods are applied to the study of faunal acquisition patterns to test whether they changed significantly from the Middle to the Upper Palaeolithic. The analyses demonstrate that Neanderthals and modern humans practiced largely identical hunting tactics and that the two populations were equally and independently capable of acquiring and exploiting critical biogeographical information pertaining to resource availability and animal behavior. Like lithic techno-typological traditions, hunting behaviors are poor proxies for major behavioral differences between Neanderthals and modern humans, a conclusion that has important implications for debates surrounding the Middle–Upper Palaeolithic transition and what features constitute “modern” behavior. The proposition is advanced that developments in the social realm of Upper Palaeolithic societies allowed the replacement of Neanderthals in the Caucasus with little temporal or spatial overlap and that this process was widespread beyond traditional topographic and biogeographical barriers to Neanderthal mobility.

Numerous theories have been advanced in the effort to explain how a given policy issue manages to take root in the public sphere and subsequently move forward on the public legislative agenda—or not. This study examined how the social determinants of health (SDOH) came to be part of the legislative policy agenda in Britain from 1980 to 2003. ^ The specific objectives of the research were: (1) to conduct a sociopolitical analysis grounded in alternative agenda-setting theories to identify the factors responsible for moving the social determinants health perspective onto the British policy agenda; and (2) to determine which of the theories and related dimensions best accounted for the emergence of this perspective. ^ A triangulated content and context analysis of British news articles, historical accounts, and research commentaries of the SDOH movement was conducted guided by relevant agenda-setting theories set within a social movement framework to chronicle the emergence of the SDOH as a significant policy issue in Britain. ^ The most influential social movement and agenda setting elements in the emergence of the SDOH in Britain were issue generation tactics, framing efforts, mobilizing structures, and political opportunities grounded in social movement and agenda setting theories. Policy content or the details of the policy had comparatively little impact on the successful emergence of the SDOH. Despite resistance by the government, from 1980 to 1996 interest groups created a political understanding of the SDOH utilizing a framing package encompassing notions of inequality, fairness, and justice. This frame transmitted a powerful idea connected to a core set of British values and beliefs. After 1996, a shift in political opportunities cemented the institutional arrangements needed to sustain an environment conducive to the development and implementation of SDOH policies and programs. ^ This research demonstrates that the U.S. emergence of the SDOH on the policy agenda will depend upon: (1) U.S. ideals and values regarding poverty, inequality, race, health, and health care that will determine issue framing; (2) political opportunities that will emerge—or not—to advance the SDOH policy agenda; and (3) the mobilizing structures that support or oppose the issue. ^

Background: Futile medical treatments are interventions that are not associated with a benefit to the patient. The definition and concept of medical futility are controversial. The Texas Advance Directives Act (TADA) was passed in 1999 to address medically inappropriate interventions by allowing providers to withdraw inappropriate interventions against a surrogate decision maker's wishes following a review, attempt to transfer the patient, and 10-day waiting period. The original legislation was a negotiated compromise by players across the political spectrum. However, in recent years there has been increasing controversy regarding TADA and attempts to alter its applicability in Texas. ^ Purpose: The purpose of this project was to apply Paul Sabatier's advocacy coalition framework (ACF) to gain understanding into the historical, ethical, and political basis of the initial compromise, and determine the sources of conflict that have led to increased opposition to TADA. ^ Methods: Using the ACF model, key actors within the medical futility policy debate in Texas were aggregated into coalitions based on shared beliefs. A narrative summary based analysis identified the core elements of the policy subsystem, as well as the constraints and resources of the subsystem actors. Externalities that promoted adjustments to coalition beliefs and tactics used by coalition participants were analyzed. Data sources included review of the published literature regarding medical futility, as well as analysis of published newspaper accounts and editorials regarding the medical futility issue in Texas, legislative testimony, and review of weblogs and online commentaries dealing with the issue. ^ Results: Primary coalition participants in developing compromise legislation in 1999 were the Providers and Vitalists, with Autonomists gaining a prominent role starting in 2006. Internal factors associated with the breakdown of consensus included changes to the makeup of the governing coalition and changes in individual case information available to the Vitalist coalition. Externalities related to the intertwining of the Sun Hudson case and the Terri Schiavo case generated negative publicity for the TADA from progressive and conservative viewpoints. Dissemination of information in various venues regarding contentious cases was associated with more polarization of viewpoints, and realignment of coalition alliances. ^ Conclusions: The ACF provided an outline for the initial compromise over the creation of the Texas Advance Directives Act as well as the eventual loss of consensus. The debate between the Provider, Vitalist, and Autonomist coalitions has been affected by internal policy evolution, changes in the governing coalition, and important externalities. The debate over medical futility in Texas has had much broader implications in the dispute over Health Care Reform.^

The active initiative taken by Russian President Vladamir Putin by bombarding the antigovernment forces in Syria at the end of September 2015 startled the world by its precalculated boldness. Russian intervention has radically changed the dynamic of the war by empowering the Syrian government of Bashar Assad, and has resulted in a ceasefire agreement which starts on 27th February 2016, led by Russia and the US. No one can predict at present the next stage of conflicts in Syria or whether it will result in a positive solution to the tragic wars there. However, there is no denying the fact that Russia has played an important role in the development of the game. This paper analyzes the motivations of Putin in intervening in the Syrian crisis and the factors which have enabled Russia to play an enlarged role in the Middle East, seemingly beyond its objective capabilities. Legacies of international networks built during the Soviet period; shrewd tactics in making use of the inconsistency and vacillation of US policies, particularly towards the Middle East; its historical experience of interaction with the Muslim cultures, including domestic ones; its geopolitical perception of world politics, and the export of energy resources and military weapons as tools of diplomacy are some of the factors which explain Russian behavior. At the same time, the personal leadership and accumulated experience of President Putin in formulating Russian diplomacy and in manipulating different issues in a combined policy should be taken into account. His initiative in Syria succeeded to some extent in turning world attention away from the Ukrainian issue, aimed at changing the present sanctions imposed by the West. Another phenomenon to be noted in the international arena is the newly developed mutual interaction between Russia and the Arab countries in the Gulf. Frequent visits to Russia by autocratic leaders, including kings, emirsand princes do not always reflect a shared common interest between Russia and the Arab leaders. On the contrary, in spite of sharp and fundamental differences in their attitude toward the issues related to Syria, Iran and Yemen, the Arab leaders find it necessary to communicate with Russia and to know Russia’s expected strategies and intentions towards the Middle East, apart from its oil and gas policies. The Iran deal on the nuclear issue in July 2015 may have been a factor behind the phenomena.

Integrated Pest Management of insects includes several control tactics, such as the use of photoselective nets, which may reduce the flight activity of insects. Limiting the dispersal of pests such as aphids and whiteflies is important because of their major role as vectors of plant viruses, while a minor impact on natural enemies is desired. In this study, we examined for the first time the dispersal ability of three vector species, Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae), Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Thomas) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) and Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), in cages covered with photoselective nets. Contrary to the results obtained with aphids, the ability of the whitefly B. tabaci, to reach the target plant was reduced by photoselective nets. In a second set of experiments, the impact of UV-absorbing nets on the visual cues of two important predator species, Orius laevigatus (Fieber) (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) and Amblyseius swirskii Athias-Henriot (Acari: Phytoseiidae), was evaluated. The anthocorid was caught in higher numbers in traps placed under regular nets, whereas the mites preferably chose environments in which the UV radiation was attenuated. We have observed a wide range of effects that impedes generalization, although photoselective nets have a positive effect on pest management of whiteflies and aphids under protected environments.

The rotation maize and dry bean provides the main food supply of smallholder farmers in Honduras. Crop model assessment of climate change impacts (2070?2099 compared to a 1961?1990 baseline) on a maize?dry bean rotation for several sites across a range of climatic zones and elevations in Honduras. Low productivity systems, together with an uncertain future climate, pose a high level of risk for food security. The cropping systems simulation dynamic model CropSyst was calibrated and validated upon field trail site at Zamorano, then run with baseline and future climate scenarios based upon general circulation models (GCM) and the ClimGen synthetic daily weather generator. Results indicate large uncertainty in crop production from various GCM simulations and future emissions scenarios, but generally reduced yields at low elevations by 0 % to 22 % in suitable areas for crop production and increased yield at the cooler, on the hillsides, where farming needs to reduce soil erosion with conservation techniques. Further studies are needed to investigate strategies to reduce impacts and to explore adaptation tactics.

SUMMARY The sport of fencing has not always been the respected sport that we know it to be today ñor has the use of weapons been the same throughout history. If we concéntrate on Spainish weapons, we can say that one particular type of sword ¡s spoken about. this sword being very respected by outher European countries, it was also the one that was respected and used in Italy. As with any activity that develops in time, it must evlove from some simple beginnings. Such basics beginnings are always in relation to a cause. To concéntrate on our study, the beginnings are, the use of the sword in a reasoned and logical manner, brought together in the life and times of Jerónimo Sánchez Carranza because until he decided to study in depth the science of weapons, we cannot see with calrity if their use was correct or not and if the vast majority , when they had to use them, used any foundation or coherence, that ¡s to say if any exactness of logical use could be demonstrated. Carranza studied the sword used in his time and those that had gone before, bearing in mind that he had a new visión of the form of use of weapons, different to what the vast majority had until then understood. Carranza has been considered by many historians as the inventor of the Spanish sword, a fact which can be seen with relative ease if one flicks through any work which deals with the Spanish sword, however, they also speak of Luis Pacheco de Narváez affording him the same title, even though he followed Carranza. In ar H our study has been centred on the life of Jerónimo Sánchez Carranza and his ne-" use of weapons. In effect this thesis is a biographical thesis of the said wherein the aspect of the use of weapons stands out more than their mastery. Given the following hypothesis: It was Carranza who evolved the first techniques giving form and coherence to the .Spanish School of Fencing, thanks to his contributions to the different aspects of method, íechnique and tactic. The Spanish School of Fencing had an ¡nternal structure anaswerable to pre-detremined characteristics and served as a base for the fencing that was to, in later days, be practised. For this study to come to a head, we had to design a plan wherein we could collate all of the aspects we could, related to our inventor. From there springs the reason for each of the chapters that we have put together. The said plan responding to the actual visión of different facets that are studied today in different sciences, that were not known in Carranza's lifetime. To collect information on his person and his works we bore in mind the different places in which we could lócate the necessary documentation, above all in libraries and archives. Developing the work-method that consisted in extracing from every source, every thing relative to the theme, re-writing later our interpretation of the same. This brought us closer and made us focus of those aspects that much later we would have to analize in greater detail. In the thesis one can observe two defferent parts that are related; on the one hand his life and works and on the other his theories, which are those that should be really analised and as such, necessarily analised within the confines of a specific knowledge of fencing. In that his life has been isolated and studied the most important facts that stand out above all, is that he was considered to be the inventor of swordmanship and the particular manner of interpreting the said art, different to its interpretaion uptil then. It gave a footing to what they understood as scientific fencing, giving shape and form to the creation of a doctrine and a new form of fencing which developed a line of action that was continued by numerious followers. For all that, much had to do with the facts that Carranza was a military man, the culture, the level of studies he had and the situation in which he found himself. What's more the people with whom he mixed were, in general, cultured and of high social standing. We have also seen in the same article on his life some dubious facts which in our opinión are erróneos. We have considered the most relevent to be that it wasnt Carranza who was in dispute with Quevedo as is stated in some of the works with which we have dealt but rather it was with Pacheco he had such disputes. What's more Quevedo demonstrated his partiality to the teachings of Carranza, going against Pacheco ñor was it him who invented The Florete, a famous Spanish sword, as was said on some ocassions, eventhough the florete appeared later as a weapon in the study of fencing technique. With respect to the article on his works, we must say that there was only one article which was published in 1582, even though it was finished in 1569. In the article on his life one must distinguish between the foundations on which he based his teachings in which swordmanship reached the same levéis as other libral art forms and what he did through the study of the self same mastery. Throughout the study which we have done, one can appreciate how he was developing an art which uptill then had not been studied, seeing for himself the problems he had fortold, from the organisation of materials at hand to how it should be taught, at times having to domínate comparative concepts again or clarify and modify ones which were anchored in erróneos points of a fencing match, feeling these to be the main forseeable jobs-at-hand. Differenciating between two basic concepts which must exist in whatever arte form and more concretly in the skill that is; the theory and practice , both being fundamental to the reason why the skill endured through time, together with this reason he was supported by other sciences and the beginnings of such. Carranza was of the opinión that the swordsman must acquired by way of study, the fundemental elements with which he had to work, these elements being the body of the swordsman and the weapons, because both were going to intervene in whatever movement or action that was going to be taken. The body studied, each of the parts having more importance each time the skill intervened and above all what it did based on medicne relating it to matemathics to exact the máximum advantage, one could employ in certain circumstances, that if they were not employed, the same advantages would not result. On weapons, what resulted best was, on the one hand, the sword should be the only weapon that the swordsman should use and on the other hand, the sword should be graded to show that one cannot do the same with the different parts of the same because not all of the weapon had the same properties when used. One of the recomendations he made was that the part nearest to the hand-guard should be used for defence because one could use more forcé with it than the point and he demonstrated this with mathematical principies. One can see on reading this thesis how Carranza brought forth a new work form, in which he put much importance on the application of experience that had previously been acquired and because of it, it was important to know well the strenghts and weaknesses of an adversery. The acquisition of technique should be realised through repetition to form the habit necessary for movement to flow freely each time the swordsman executed a movement. None of this would be possible if whoever was teaching did not know each one of the elements that intervened, affording the fencing master a great reverence, in that it was he who had to guide the students he was to teach. The first thing that the master had to do was to make sure he had the maximun knowledge over which he was going to teach, to that end, the master had to know almost everything about the theory and practice of the skill of fencing but what's more that such theory and practice had to be the correct one. Carranza persued his studies, establishing the principies of technique, at least, the most important ones even though they were elementary, so that later they could continué working on them and it could be seen that the technique had a shape and form of any other art form, allowing it to be studied like any other form, as such it had a good following, even young people could be instructed in the correct use of weapons, however the real end could be found in the conservaron of life as ordered by the Catholic Church, feeling that skill with the sword was one of the most effective methods for assuring it. We have dedicated an article to technique and tactics wherein is reflected everything related to positions and movement that the swordsman must do to achieve his objective, that is, wound without being wounded. We have analised the different tricks and the reasons from every point of view of movement and action. If what is done by technique is related with the adversery we enter in the territory of tactics wherein we have studied, most importantly, the concepts of time and distance just as, the energy the swordsman muse conserve to bring to a head a bout and arrive victorious without being exhausted. We conclude by saying that everything that has been realised by this study, has shown that it was Carranza who gave to the skill, the first basic techniques, tactics and methodology, by his conception of this new art form, just as the manner in which he established his theories, made possible the tecnhiques practiced in Spain would enjoy an intemal coherent structure, which would endure throughout the years.

ABSTRACT Fencing is a combat sport in which all actions are aimed at achieving the objective of the competition, which is that of touching the opponent without being touched and for this the fencers make use of all the tools, techniques, tactics and physical condition possible at their disposal. The quality of the fencers´ actions in competition will depend primarily on two of the systems involved in the process: on the one hand, the activation of the nervous system and, on the other, the response of the muscular system. One of the tools recently used to stimulate the neuromuscular system, and which has produced positive results in many research studies, has been the vertical vibration platform. Therefore, we decided to conduct a study with competition fencers with a protocol of acute exposure to vibration and to measure the effect produced by this tool on the neuromuscular system by means of the study of changes experienced in simple reaction times, the elective response times and movement times, as well as the effects on the efficacy of the fencing touch analyzed before and after receiving the vibratory stimulus. The study was conducted with fencers in national competitions and belonging to the Technification Center of the Fencing Federation of Castilla y León (n = 38), with a mean age of 22 years (SD 9.08). The sample was composed of 12 women and 26 men, by categories cadets (13), juniors (12), and seniors (13). The protocol chosen was performed by each participant on three occasions: an initial one, another after going through a stimulation load on the vibration platform, and a final phase, after a 10 minute recovery time to assess the degree of dissipation of the vibratory effect. The stimulus chosen on the vibration platform was a frequency of 50 Hz, for a period of 60 seconds and an amplitude of 4 mm. The results were analyzed according to the following dependent variables: the reaction time, the response time, the accuracy and the efficiency. This data was crossed with the independent variables: gender, category, sporting level and the years of experience. The purpose of this study was analyze the effects of neuromuscular stimulation intervention in a group of fencing competition shooters. The results showed that the mechanical neuromuscular stimulation (MNS) load applied in our study led to a modest effect on the neuromuscular response of the fencers involved in the research. Significant effects were found caused by the vibratory stimulus on the simple reaction time 8,1%, elective response time 10%, as well as the accuracy 7%, and efficiency 18,5%. We should also point out that slight differences by gender were observed, finding a greater effect in females. It should be emphasized that the specific characteristics of the sample appear to have significantly influenced the results. Finally, we should note that the residual effect produced by the stimulation applied in our research in some cases exceeded ten minutes, given that positive effects of the mechanical neuromuscular stimulation were found in several of the final scores.

Long-lasting insecticide-treated nets (LLITNs) constitute a novel alternative that combines physical and chemical tactics to prevent insect access and the spread of insect-transmitted plant viruses in protected enclosures. This approach is based on a slow-release insecticide-treated net with large hole sizes that allow improved ventilation of greenhouses. The efficacy of a wide range of LLITNs was tested under laboratory conditions against Myzus persicae, Aphis gossypii and Bemisia tabaci. Two nets were selected for field tests under a high insect infestation pressure in the presence of plants infected with Cucumber mosaic virus and Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus. The efficacy of Aphidius colemani, a parasitoid commonly used for biological control of aphids, was studied in parallel field experiments.

ABSTRACT OBJETIVE: This doctoral thesis aims to analyze the performance in football from a physical point of view on a team of excellence. METHOD: The registration system (AMISCO) activity soccer player in competition (total distance traveled distances at different speeds, and number of sprints) was used to analyze over six seasons continued activity elite players (N = 2082), with 1051 belonging to Team Excellence (EE) and 1031 players from rival teams (ER). RESULT: The competitive physical response of the US players are analyzed and compared with that of ER. The activity profile (total distance, distance at different speeds and number of sprints) of EE players shown below players ER values. The same occurs in each of the parts of the game, the specific game since players analyzed in different seasons and in different months of the season. The EE recorded increased activity (total distance traveled in the match, distance at high speeds V> 17 km / h and sprints number) when playing a local when it does on the road. EE also shows higher demands physical demands in European competition (Champions League) against the League in the total distance traveled in the party and at low speeds (V <17 km / h), while just shows differences in indicators of demand physics when the opposing teams with different levels of performance faces, except in the distance walked (V = 01-11 km / h) with significant differences when higher level Maximum opponent is facing difficulty High difficulty (p < .01) or Medium difficulty (p <.01). Depending on the style of play differences are recognized in the total distance traveled in the party, at low speeds (V <17 km / h) and the number of Sprints (V> 24 km / h). Finally, the activity profile of EE is not influenced by the effect of being subjected to a high competitive density (play a game during the week). It is found as a player on a team of Excellence is subject not only to the requirements of the specific position but is also subject to the characteristics of the player to play the role or function entrusted tactics. This influence is most evident in advanced players who occupy specific positions. CONCLUSION: This research provides the characterization of the activity of EE players versus activity profile of its rivals, showing a level of response specific and different, more stable against certain contextual variables and where the physical demands on the specific position is conditioned by the individual characteristics of the player, all these aspects can help in planning training in this type of equipment.

ABSTRACT A little of everything that interests the architect is concentrated in the designing of a shop: it forms a kind of crossroads bringing together, apart from certain disciplinary questions rendering it particularly attractive and testing one’s ability as a designer, the need to coordinate compositional resources from fields peripheral to architecture in order to devise an adequate response to the specific requirements of image and persuasion that are part and parcel of business activity. The difficult start-up conditions, the generally not overly favourable spatial configurations ‒where the pre-existing conditions and shape of the site encroach on and enclose a space which has to be given a new order‒, the reduced size and possibilities afforded in terms of controlling the work, the short time frame and the rapid response imposed by the business tactics and its strategic position and direct frontal relationship with the street, make the shopfront and the display window are the ‘first advertisements” of the activity, or the integration and the reciprocal commentary between architecture and what takes place within: these are but some of the reasons explaining this interest and justifying the claim that the shop –a dimensional space so well suited to invention and innovation− constitutes a test-bed for trying out new concepts of architecture, combining in space and time the ideal conditions for experiment and the examination of its findings. Albeit not numerous, there are shops in contemporary architecture which have managed on their own merit to obtain a special place among the works of their authors. Among those earning such recognition, one should mention the ‘mythical’ Kniže tailoring establishment designed by Adolf Loos at the beginning of the 20th century in Vienna, the Negozio Vitrum designed by Giuseppe Terragni in Como in the thirties, or the London offices of Iraqi Airways built in the sixties by Alison and Peter Smithson. This selection, far from gratuitous, is based on well-founded reasons. Within the circumstances of the time-frame in which they were developed −the three were designed and built during the 20th century in a period that spans just over fifty years (1907-1961)− the chosen examples bring together a whole series of ‘coincidences’ where it is not difficult to draw certain parallels: the three bear witness to the stature of creators who were capable of devoting the same creative intensity to these ‘minor’ themes, thus corroborating the fact that the nature of the architecture can also be great in less important works; the three, thanks to the moment of maturity in which their design was carried out, reflect their condition as an experimental laboratory at the service of the particular designing interests which at the time occupied the minds of these architects; the three confirm hypotheses already displayed in previous architectures, they test lines of work which had not materialised through lack of opportunity, and in a less comprised manner check solutions that were later transferred to works with a greater vocation for permanence; works −and this is something especially surprising – with which they maintained a close relationship in time and space, even becoming parallel experimental platforms: in this sense, we need only to mention the physical proximity –just metres away− and proximity in time –built within the same years− between the Kniže shop (1907-1913; 1928) and the House of Michaelerplatz (1910-11); the Vitrum shop (1930) and the Casa del Fascio (1929;1932-36); and the Iraqi Airways sales offices (1960-61) and the headquarters of The Economist (1959-64). The potential of the shop to set itself up as an experimental laboratory and architectural rehearsal constitutes the main focus of the research put forward by this thesis.
