Finalmente, refletimos sobre o nosso desenvolvimento profissional enquanto futuros professores; Abstract: Report within the scope of Supervised Teaching Practice curricular unit This report appears within the scope of Supervised Teaching Practice curricular unit, included in the Master’s Degree in Portuguese Language Teaching for the 3rd stage of Basic Education and Secondary Education and Spanish Language Teaching for Basic and Secondary Education, under the supervision of PhD Professor Paulo Lampreia Costa. Our Supervised Teaching Practice took place during the 2015-2016 school year, in the group of schools of Reguengos de Monsaraz. In this work we emphasize and reflect over fundamental documents and legislation that regulate the teaching activity in Portugal. We report our teaching activity practices which concerns planning, developing classroom activities, assessing learning, addressing, mainly, two classes, 7.th E and 11.th A/B, in Portuguese and Spanish as a Foreign Language II, respectively, and analyse them. We describe and comment our school participation, which concerns the planning and implementation of extra-curricular activities. Finally, we reflect over our professional development as future teachers.

Com a noção de que o professor deve, permanentemente, refletir sobre todas as suas escolhas pedagógicas, abordaremos os cinco principais aspetos que regulam o desempenho docente: preparação científica, pedagógica e didática; planificação e condução das aulas e avaliação das aprendizagens; análise da prática de ensino; participação na escola e desenvolvimento profissional; Report of Supervised Teaching Practice for the academic year 2015/2016 at the Secondary/3 Rainha Santa Isabel School in Estremoz Abstract: This report was written in the scope of the curricular unit Supervised Teaching Practice included in the Masters in Teaching Portuguese in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education and Secondary Education and of Spanish in the Basic and Secondary Education, under the guidance of Professora Ângela Balça. The main of this written report is to make an attentive reflexion about the teaching-learning process. We intend to reflect on the educational performance carried out over the previous year at Rainha Santa Isabel School, in Portuguese and Spanish language classes. Departing from the concept that the teacher must, constantly, reflect on all His pedagogical choices, we will focus on the main five aspects that regulate the teaching practice – scientific, pedagogical and didactic preparation; planning and development of the lessons, as well as assessment of the learning; analysis of the teaching practice; participation at school activities and professional development.

Studies in sensory neuroscience reveal the critical importance of accurate sensory perception for cognitive development. There is considerable debate concerning the possible sensory correlates of phonological processing, the primary cognitive risk factor for developmental dyslexia. Across languages, children with dyslexia have a specific difficulty with the neural representation of the phonological structure of speech. The identification of a robust sensory marker of phonological difficulties would enable early identification of risk for developmental dyslexia and early targeted intervention. Here, we explore whether phonological processing difficulties are associated with difficulties in processing acoustic cues to speech rhythm. Speech rhythm is used across languages by infants to segment the speech stream into words and syllables. Early difficulties in perceiving auditory sensory cues to speech rhythm and prosody could lead developmentally to impairments in phonology. We compared matched samples of children with and without dyslexia, learning three very different spoken and written languages, English, Spanish, and Chinese. The key sensory cue measured was rate of onset of the amplitude envelope (rise time), known to be critical for the rhythmic timing of speech. Despite phonological and orthographic differences, for each language, rise time sensitivity was a significant predictor of phonological awareness, and rise time was the only consistent predictor of reading acquisition. The data support a language-universal theory of the neural basis of developmental dyslexia on the basis of rhythmic perception and syllable segmentation. They also suggest that novel remediation strategies on the basis of rhythm and music may offer benefits for phonological and linguistic development.

This paper describes a preprocessing module for improving the performance of a Spanish into Spanish Sign Language (Lengua de Signos Espanola: LSE) translation system when dealing with sparse training data. This preprocessing module replaces Spanish words with associated tags. The list with Spanish words (vocabulary) and associated tags used by this module is computed automatically considering those signs that show the highest probability of being the translation of every Spanish word. This automatic tag extraction has been compared to a manual strategy achieving almost the same improvement. In this analysis, several alternatives for dealing with non-relevant words have been studied. Non-relevant words are Spanish words not assigned to any sign. The preprocessing module has been incorporated into two well-known statistical translation architectures: a phrase-based system and a Statistical Finite State Transducer (SFST). This system has been developed for a specific application domain: the renewal of Identity Documents and Driver's License. In order to evaluate the system a parallel corpus made up of 4080 Spanish sentences and their LSE translation has been used. The evaluation results revealed a significant performance improvement when including this preprocessing module. In the phrase-based system, the proposed module has given rise to an increase in BLEU (Bilingual Evaluation Understudy) from 73.8% to 81.0% and an increase in the human evaluation score from 0.64 to 0.83. In the case of SFST, BLEU increased from 70.6% to 78.4% and the human evaluation score from 0.65 to 0.82.
