We investigate difference equations which arise as discrete approximations to two-point boundary value problems for systems of second-order, ordinary differential equations. We formulate conditions under which all solutions to the discrete problem satisfy certain a priori bounds which axe independent of the step-size. As a result, the nonexistence of spurious solutions are guaranteed. Some existence and convergence theorems for solutions to the discrete problem are also presented. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Error condition detected We consider discrete two-point boundary value problems of the form D-2 y(k+1) = f (kh, y(k), D y(k)), for k = 1,...,n - 1, (0,0) = G((y(0),y(n));(Dy-1,Dy-n)), where Dy-k = (y(k) - Yk-I)/h and h = 1/n. This arises as a finite difference approximation to y" = f(x,y,y'), x is an element of [0,1], (0,0) = G((y(0),y(1));(y'(0),y'(1))). We assume that f and G = (g(0), g(1)) are continuous and fully nonlinear, that there exist pairs of strict lower and strict upper solutions for the continuous problem, and that f and G satisfy additional assumptions that are known to yield a priori bounds on, and to guarantee the existence of solutions of the continuous problem. Under these assumptions we show that there are at least three distinct solutions of the discrete approximation which approximate solutions to the continuous problem as the grid size, h, goes to 0. Let X and Y be Hausdorff topological vector spaces, K a nonempty, closed, and convex subset of X, C: K--> 2(Y) a point-to-set mapping such that for any x is an element of K, C(x) is a pointed, closed, and convex cone in Y and int C(x) not equal 0. Given a mapping g : K --> K and a vector valued bifunction f : K x K - Y, we consider the implicit vector equilibrium problem (IVEP) of finding x* is an element of K such that f (g(x*), y) is not an element of - int C(x) for all y is an element of K. This problem generalizes the (scalar) implicit equilibrium problem and implicit variational inequality problem. We propose the dual of the implicit vector equilibrium problem (DIVEP) and establish the equivalence between (IVEP) and (DIVEP) under certain assumptions. Also, we give characterizations of the set of solutions for (IVP) in case of nonmonotonicity, weak C-pseudomonotonicity, C-pseudomonotonicity, and strict C-pseudomonotonicity, respectively. Under these assumptions, we conclude that the sets of solutions are nonempty, closed, and convex. Finally, we give some applications of (IVEP) to vector variational inequality problems and vector optimization problems. (C) 2003 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

In the paper we present two continuous selection theorems in hyperconvex metric spaces and apply these to study xed point and coincidence point problems as well as variational inequality problems in hyperconvex metric spaces.

A new wavelet-based adaptive framework for solving population balance equations (PBEs) is proposed in this work. The technique is general, powerful and efficient without the need for prior assumptions about the characteristics of the processes. Because there are steeply varying number densities across a size range, a new strategy is developed to select the optimal order of resolution and the collocation points based on an interpolating wavelet transform (IWT). The proposed technique has been tested for size-independent agglomeration, agglomeration with a linear summation kernel and agglomeration with a nonlinear kernel. In all cases, the predicted and analytical particle size distributions (PSDs) are in excellent agreement. Further work on the solution of the general population balance equations with nucleation, growth and agglomeration and the solution of steady-state population balance equations will be presented in this framework. O presente trabalho objetiva avaliar o desempenho do MECID (Método dos Elementos de Contorno com Interpolação Direta) para resolver o termo integral referente à inércia na Equação de Helmholtz e, deste modo, permitir a modelagem do Problema de Autovalor assim como calcular as frequências naturais, comparando-o com os resultados obtidos pelo MEF (Método dos Elementos Finitos), gerado pela Formulação Clássica de Galerkin. Em primeira instância, serão abordados alguns problemas governados pela equação de Poisson, possibilitando iniciar a comparação de desempenho entre os métodos numéricos aqui abordados. Os problemas resolvidos se aplicam em diferentes e importantes áreas da engenharia, como na transmissão de calor, no eletromagnetismo e em problemas elásticos particulares. Em termos numéricos, sabe-se das dificuldades existentes na aproximação precisa de distribuições mais complexas de cargas, fontes ou sorvedouros no interior do domínio para qualquer técnica de contorno. No entanto, este trabalho mostra que, apesar de tais dificuldades, o desempenho do Método dos Elementos de Contorno é superior, tanto no cálculo da variável básica, quanto na sua derivada. Para tanto, são resolvidos problemas bidimensionais referentes a membranas elásticas, esforços em barras devido ao peso próprio e problemas de determinação de frequências naturais em problemas acústicos em domínios fechados, dentre outros apresentados, utilizando malhas com diferentes graus de refinamento, além de elementos lineares com funções de bases radiais para o MECID e funções base de interpolação polinomial de grau (um) para o MEF. São geradas curvas de desempenho através do cálculo do erro médio percentual para cada malha, demonstrando a convergência e a precisão de cada método. Os resultados também são comparados com as soluções analíticas, quando disponíveis, para cada exemplo resolvido neste trabalho.

The radial undistortion model proposed by Fitzgibbon and the radial fundamental matrix were early steps to extend classical epipolar geometry to distorted cameras. Later minimal solvers have been proposed to find relative pose and radial distortion, given point correspondences between images. However, a big drawback of all these approaches is that they require the distortion center to be exactly known. In this paper we show how the distortion center can be absorbed into a new radial fundamental matrix. This new formulation is much more practical in reality as it allows also digital zoom, cropped images and camera-lens systems where the distortion center does not exactly coincide with the image center. In particular we start from the setting where only one of the two images contains radial distortion, analyze the structure of the particular radial fundamental matrix and show that the technique also generalizes to other linear multi-view relationships like trifocal tensor and homography. For the new radial fundamental matrix we propose different estimation algorithms from 9,10 and 11 points. We show how to extract the epipoles and prove the practical applicability on several epipolar geometry image pairs with strong distortion that - to the best of our knowledge - no other existing algorithm can handle properly.

The real Cloud and Ubiquitous Manufacturing systems require effectiveness and permanent availability of resources, their capacity and scalability. One of the most important problems for applications management over cloud based platforms, which are expected to support efficient scalability and resources coordination following SaaS implementation model, is their interoperability. Even application dashboards need to easily incorporate those new applications, their interoperability still remains a big problem to override. So, the possibility to expand these dashboards with efficiently integrated communicational cloud based services (cloudlets) represents a relevant added value as well as contributes to solving the interoperability problem. Following the architecture for integration of enriched existing cloud services, as instances of manufacturing resources, this paper: a) proposes a cloud based web platform to support dashboard integrating communicational services, and b) describe an experimentation to sustain the theory that the effective and efficient interoperability, especially in dynamic environments, could be achieved only with human intervention.

As IPSS’s visam dar uma estrutura organizada ao dever ético de solidariedade e justiça – valores incalculáveis – entre os indivíduos. Não são administradas pelo Estado, nem por corpos autárquicos. E têm por objectivo, como informa a Segurança Social também, o apoio a crianças e jovens, o apoio à família, a protecção dos cidadãos na velhice e invalidez e nas situações de diminuição de meios de subsistência ou de capacidade para o trabalho, promoção e proteção da saúde designadamente por meio da prestação de cuidados de medicina preventiva, curativa e de reabilitação, educação e formação profissional dos cidadãos, resolução dos problemas habitacionais das populações.; Abstract: The IPSS's aim to give an organized structure to the ethical duty of solidarity and justice - incalculable values - between individuals. Are not run by the state or by municipal bodies. And aim, as reported by the Social Security also, support for children and youth, family support, the protection of citizens in old age, disability and decrease in situations of subsistence or capacity for work, promotion and health protection including through the provision of care preventive medicine, curative and rehabilitation, education and vocational training of citizens, solving the housing problems of the people.

Abstract: The growing proliferation of management systems standards (MSSs), and their individualized implementation, is a real problem faced by organizations. On the other hand, MSSs are aimed at improving efficiency and effectiveness of organizational responses in order to satisfy the requirements, needs and expectations of the stakeholders. Each organization has its own identity and this is an issue that cannot be neglected; hence, two possible approaches can be attended. First, continue with the implementation of individualized management systems (MSs); or, integrate the several MSSs versus related MSs into an integrated management system (IMS). Therefore, in this context, organizations are faced with a dilemma, as a result of the increasing proliferation and diversity of MSSs. This paper takes into account the knowledge gained through a case study conducted in the context of a Portuguese company and unveils some of the advantages and disadvantages of integration. A methodology is also proposed and presented to support organizations in developing and structuring the integration process of their individualized MSs, and consequently minimize problems that are generators of inefficiencies, value destruction and loss of competitiveness. The obtained results provide relevant information that can support Top Management decision in solving that dilemma and consequently promote a successful integration, including a better control of business risks associated to MSSs requirements and enhancing sustainable performance, considering the context in which organizations operate.
