Space : the final frontier : festivals, community and place in Darwin Northern Territory, Australia

The ethnographies of two festive public events are used to analyse some aspects of community and place in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. Place entails layers of physical and imaginal geographies and involves local and extra-local factors. Discourses about place among those who lived in Darwin are interwoven with discourses about community. A framework of border spaces and intersections are used to look at tensions and accommodations in presenting sometimes conflicting versions/visions of Darwin.

From the private to the public : a pilgrimage of symbols and metaphors

The marks and imagery that visual artists use to form images often consist of, or incorporate, elements of a visual symbolic language. When the artist's personal set of symbols aligns with that of the society in which the artist works it would be anticipated that the works produced could be readily interpreted and appreciated by that audience or society.

Lost in space

This thesis aims to map current issues and concerns of the exhibition process which produce inequities or shortcomings within the information network. These issues are related to the National Gallery of Victoria's stated aims and objectives.

PSASB : constructing regulatory space for accounting change

This study applies the "regulatory space" construct, in concert with the notion of a "logic of appropriateness", to examine the role of the organised accounting profession in expanding and enhancing the domain of accrual accounting to Australian public sector financial reporting, through the advent, operations and output of the PSASB as its participant in regulatory space.

Trapped in white space : the allegations and denials of organ trafficking

Allegations of body parts trafficking implicating the West have been surfacing persistently in the media of many non Western countries for almost 20 years. Western media has responded to the allegations with denials and denunciations. This thesis considers the competing accounts and places them in a framework for analysis.

The making of public space in Haiphong, Vietnam

The research examined the making of Haiphong public space. It found that Haiphong's people and the authorities often had different public space interests and that this divergence caused serious planning and usage problems. A public space protection proposal was recommended to maintain and enhance public space qualities.
