This paper focuses on the profile of students of bachelor and teacher training degree in Chemistry and UNESP/Araraquara. Statistical and comparatives analyzes were performed with a large amount of quantitative data on those who registered and passed the entrance examinations of these courses. This information was interpreted based on the concepts of economic and cultural capital developed by Pierre Bourdieu. The first analysis concerned the approval in entrance exams and brings important conclusions regarding the aspects that favor entering university: confirmation of "preparation courses effect"; major weight of cultural capital in relation to economic capital; and observation of the phenomenon of self-selection in relation to the bachelor's under graduation course. The second analysis points to important differences in the profile of a group of students that could be considered homogeneous due to the choice of chemistry course. In addition to bringing new information on the profile of students of chemistry, our analysis has the merit of translating and quantitatively reveals ideas conveyed in common sense about passing the entrance exam.

A avaliação educacional pode ser compreendida como um campo da educação e, portanto, marcado por tensões, contradições, interesses, concepções de mundo, de homem, de sociedade e educação. Para alguns estudiosos desta temática, a avaliação transpõe as salas de aulas assumindo também uma posição central na organização e gestão do trabalho pedagógico e de políticas públicas para a educação, além de tornar-se um excelente instrumento de controle dos sujeitos que se encontram na tessitura do processo educativo. Este trabalho intentou traçar algumas percepções sobre a avaliação da aprendizagem no Curso de Graduação em Ciências Biológicas da Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP) - Campus de Rio Claro, através da ótica dos alunos dos anos finais deste Curso. Nesse sentido, buscou-se desenvolver um estudo qualitativo a partir de entrevistas semiestruturada, objetivando identificar as principais concepções e práticas sobre a avaliação da aprendizagem no curso. Os relatos indicam que a prática avaliativa, na maioria dos casos, vem adquirindo fortemente uma função somativa e classificatória, centralizada na memorização e reprodução de informações, ocorrendo quase sempre de maneira externa ao aluno e focada nos resultados da aprendizagem (produto). Pode-se dizer que a nota tem servido ora para ocultar e manter as relações hierárquicas, ora para selecionar aqueles que vão gozar de um incentivo financeiro para o desenvolvimento de outras experiências acadêmicas, resguardando uma lógica meritocrática e seletiva. De modo geral, a prática avaliativa pouco tem contribuído para a (re)organização do trabalho pedagógico pelo professor e para a superação das dificuldades e incompreensões dos alunos. Currently many studies have highlighted the importance of development autonomy of teachers to improve the quality of education. Our study aimed to explore the concepts of autonomy presented that teachers working in kindergarten and first grades of elementary school. Our aim was to understand how these concepoes helped or hindered the development of the action of the teacher second Contreras (2002). The results showed that the conceptions, presented by the teacher, were high ly individualistic, demonstrate a professional focused only on matters relating to the didactic and pedagogic classroom.

This article is inserted in a study aimed at the identification of the main barriers for the inclusion of visually-impaired students in Physics classes. It focuses on the understanding of the communication context which facilitates or hardens the effective participation of students with visual impairment in Mechanics activities. To do so, the research defines, from empirical - sensory and semantic structures, the language to be applied in the activities, as well as, the moment and the speech pattern in which the languages have been used. As a result, it identifies the rela tion between the uses of the interdependent audio-visual empirical lan guage structure in the non-interactive episodes of authority; the decrease in the use of this structure in interactive episodes; the creation of educa tional segregation environments within the classroom and the frequent use of the interdependent tactile-hearing empirical language structure in such environments.

This article is part of a study that seeks to understand the main barriers to the inclusion of visually impaired students in learning Physics. Analyzing modern physics classes, we examine the difficulties in communication between teachers and visually impaired students. Our study emphasizes the analyses of empiricalsensory and semantic structures of speech, indicating factors that may hamper students’ understanding in the classroom. We recommend alternative procedures that aim to facilitate the effective participation of students with visual impairment in the communication process, such as: elimination of the interdependent audiovisual structure and the exploration of the communicational potentialities of a speech based on empirical structures whose accessibility does not depend on visual skills.

The main objective of this survey is describing signly the metaphor learning resource, with focus on biology education. Our teorical reference is the peircean semiotics, because it means solid heritage to code surveys implicated at science education, it led us to do an explanation about the main lines about that reference, addressed to researchers and lecturers interested in those reasonings. In the description yearned, another objectives appear: demonstrate diferences between metaphor/analogy and pragmatic analogy; to list metaphors, from cell representation analysis, and argue about principals diferences and probable cognitive consequences between the metaphor event in the visual representation and speech sentences. Therefore we analysed the animal cell of a high school first grade studying book – biology – cell biology – used by São Paulo and another state students. The findings demonstrate the undeniable importance of the metaphor as a learning tool in the biology education, and new findings about that, such as its limits in the concept elaboration, gnosiologic consequences for receptioning, the search needs for propositions– pictures between concept relations – in the science speech construction, and other results.

Nowadays it is increasingly required insertion History of Science on content to be worked in education, which raises many doubts and difficulties on the teachers did not have that content in their initial training. This work results from a qualitative empirical study aimed to investigate how a teacher of Biology and Science in a public school in the city of Bauru - SP was not in their initial training courses relating to the History of Science, mobilizes their knowledge to enter such an approach in their teaching practice. In the research methodology used as its theme the history of DNA present in the materials and also conduct open interviews and field notes to identify the knowledge involved in teaching practice and was adopted as the theoretical framework of Maurice Tardif’s Docent Knowledge. The results showed that even with difficulties arising from gaps in initial training, the teacher resorted to their experiential knowledge to meet these needs in addition to appropriate knowledge from the programs and textbooks, but its shortcomings make it difficult to analyze more critically. Thus, these data lead us to a reflection on the role of textbooks for these teachers is the process by which the consolidation of the knowledge they constructed.

Considering the importance that the discussion of concepts related to genetics has on the society and the necessity to approach science as a dynamic and historical activity, it will be discussed an essential concept to the understanding of biological inheritance: the concept of gene. This way, the article aims to discuss the differents concepts of genes in the history of biology and the relevance of addressing in teaching context this concept in a systemic perception of phenomena. Also, the paper have an analyses of the ideas about the concept of the gene from teachers from two university. The results indicate the presence of different definitions of the gene in the discourse of university teachers, with the predominance of gene concept as a structural, functional and/or informational unit.

We analyzed the National Curriculum for Secondary Schools with respect to the ontological, epistemological, historical, social and conceptual biology. This study aims to bring information and thinking about the inclusion of history and philosophy of biology for secondary education and for teacher training. We performed an analysis of PCNEM, PCNEM+ and Curriculum Guidelines as a whole from established categories. The results indicate a predominance of the ontological view of mechanistic biology. Epistemologically, although acknowledged, the question of scientific method is rarely discussed. The historical approach and social scientific activity and scientific knowledge are recognized by the documents, but an instrumental view prevails. The conceptual aspects are comprehensive and take into account the theories of structural biology. A philosophical discussion on the biology is missing in the parameters, indicating the need for the inclusion of issues related to ideas of determinism, chance and teleology.

This paper is part of a broader investigation on Epistemology of Biology carried out by a group of researchers from Cascavel/PR. It involves studies and research about biological thought on subjects such as the growing of the concepts of gene, genotype and phenotype. The aim of this research was to gather the undergraduate students of Biological Sciences’ views about the role played by the inclusion of a historical episode in the study group as a trigger for epistemological discussions and didactic reflections. Firstly, the students received Johannsen’s article “The genotype conception of heredity”, published in 1911 in the journal The American Naturalist, in which he proposed the concepts of genotype and phenotype, among other ones. After, there was a discussion held by group about the concepts proposed in the article taking into account the epistemological, historical and didactic aspects. Data collection occurred through the recording of the group discussions and individual interviews. The results suggest that the inclusion of this historical episode, enabled the participants to develop critical thinking through collective reflection on the meaning of biological knowledge in different contexts.

Despite of intense discussion over recent decades about the inclusion of disabled people and the influence of conception of teachers about that inclusion for the effectuation of it, this work sought to identify conceptions of science teachers regarding the inclusion of students with visual impairment in the classes of astronomy providing basis for future studies.
