Alkali-calcic and alkaline post-orogenic (PO) granite magmatism: petrologic constraints and geodynamic settings

The end of an orogenic Wilson cycle corresponds to amalgamation of terranes into a Pangaea and is marked by widespread magmatism dominated by granitoids. The post-collision event starts with magmatic processes still influenced by subducted crustal materials. The dominantly calc-alkaline suites show a shift from normal to high-K to very high-K associations. Source regions are composed of depleted and later enriched orogenic subcontinental lithospheric mantle, affected by dehydration melting and generating more and more K- and LILE-rich magmas. In the vicinity of intra-crustal magma chambers, anatexis by incongruent melting of hydrous minerals may generate peraluminous granitoids bearing mafic enclaves. The post-collision event ends with emplacement of bimodal post-orogenic (PO) suites along transcurrent fault zones. Two suites are defined, (i) the alkali-calcic monzonite-monzogranite-syenogranite-alkali feldspar granite association characterised by [biotite + plagioclase] fractionation and moderate [LILE + HFSE] enrichments and (ii) the alkaline monzonite-syenite-alkali feldspar granite association characterised by [amphibole + alkali feldspar] fractionation and displaying two evolutionary trends, one peralkaline with sodic mafic mineralogy and higher enrichments in HFSE than in LILE, and the other aluminous biotite-bearing marked by HFSE depletion relative to LILE due to accessory mineral precipitation. Alkali-calcic and alkaline suites differ essentially in the amounts of water present within intra-crustal magma chambers, promoting crystallisation of various mineral assemblages. The ultimate enriched and not depleted mantle source is identical for the two PO suites. The more primitive LILE and HFSE-rich source rapidly replaces the older orogenic mantle source during lithosphere delamination and becomes progressively the thermal boundary layer of the new lithosphere. Present rock compositions are a mixture of major mantle contribution and various crustal components carried by F-rich aqueous fluids circulating within convective cells created around magma chambers. Calmodulin-dependent protein kinase IV during T-cell development.

In a primary cell culture system of fetal rat brain, the calmodulin-dependent protein-kinase IV (CaMKIV) could be induced by the thyroid hormone T3 in a time- and concentration-dependent manner, provided the tissue was excised not later than day 15 of gestation (E15) (Krebs et al., J. Biol. Chem. 271, 11055, 1996). We report here that in the fetal thymus CaMKIV could not be detected earlier than day 16 of gestation and that the expression of this enzyme was fully upregulated at day 18. In mouse fetal thymus organ culture (FTOC) of day 14 embryonic thymus, CaMKIV could not be detected, even after several days of culture if a minimal culture medium lacking fetal calf serum was used. However, after addition of fetal calf serum to the culture medium the expression of CaMKIV could be specifically induced. Furthermore, it could also be shown that during T-cell development in the adult murine thymus the expression of CaMKIV was tightly regulated. Taken together, these results demonstrate that the expression of CaMKIV, an enzyme involved in the regulation of Ca(2+)-dependent gene expression, is itself under stringent regulatory control during tissue development.

Fazer pão e votar: estética da vida no diário de agricultores

O artigo apresenta alguns resultados de pesquisa e discute os processos da autoria e a organização estética do gênero diário, tendo a escrita como ato ético e responsável de interação entre o mundo da vida e o mundo da teoria. O material de análise corresponde a 21 diários escritos por três irmãos agricultores, que foram problematizados com base nos princípios da análise dialógica do discurso do Círculo de Bakhtin. Os resultados da análise demonstram que a estética da vida está inscrita no ato ético e responsável da escrita realizada pelos três irmãos agricultores e organizada pelos autores-criadores nos diários como gênero do discurso.

Es condou l'existencia d'una facies original, pero vinculada, per diferents raons, amb la de la Iberia centre-meridional i amb la de l'area hel·lenitzant del golf del Lleó.

The four- vs. alternative six-factor structure of the French WISC-IV: Comparison using confirmatory factor analyses

Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses reported in the French technical manual of the WISC-IV provides evidence supporting a structure with four indices: Verbal Comprehension (VCI), Perceptual Reasoning (PRI), Working Memory (WMI), and Processing Speed (PSI). Although the WISC-IV is more attuned to contemporary theory, it is still not in total accordance with the dominant theory: the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) theory of cognitive ability. This study was designed to determine whether the French WISC-IV is better described with the four-factor solution or whether an alternative model based on the CHC theory is more appropriate. The intercorrelations matrix reported in the French technical manual was submitted to confirmatory factor analysis. A comparison of competing models suggests that a model based on the CHC theory fits the data better than the current WISC-IV structure. It appears that the French WISC-IV in fact measures six factors: crystallized intelligence (Gc), fluid intelligence (Gf), short-term memory (Gsm), processing speed (Gs), quantitative knowledge (Gq), and visual processing (Gv). We recommend that clinicians interpret the subtests of the French WISC-IV in relation to this CHC model in addition to the four indices.
