State of Iowa Affirmative Action/Diversity Plan and Report, FY2008

Each department will submit by July 31st an Affirmative Action/Diversity Plan to DAS, who will receive it on behalf of the Diversity Council. This document is to report on your activities and accomplishments for FY 2008, and report on your intended activities for FY 2009. For the purposes of this document, the term protected classes refers specifically to females, minorities, and persons with disabilities. Protected classes may be subject to numerical goal setting in employment. The term diversity includes the protected classes, but also includes broader differences, such as age, sexual orientation, and religion. These differences are not subject to numerical goal setting in employment, but may be protected by non-discrimination statutes and policies. Please refer to Executive Order Four and the State’s EEO/AA Policy for more details.

The Iowa Accountability program (IAP) was established to address the disproportionate numbers of African American affected by domestic violence. IAP specializes in programming tailored to working with the community, African American leaders, victim advocates and members of the legal system.

Martin Lindhart (Ed.), Practicing the Faith. The Ritual Life of Pentecostal-Charismatic Christians, Berghahn Books, Oxford, 2011, 344 p.

This edited volume examines, from a ritual perspective, Pentecostal-Charismatic groups that are the fastest growing religious movements in the world today. The authors, who are anthropologists, ethnologists or sociologists (with one theologian) collected rich and diverse material on healing, deliverance, personal devotion, public engagement. Their work covers several regions such as Chile, South California, Fiji, Kenya, and Sweden. After an introduction by the editor, eleven chapters examine various issues relevant to the field. Overcoming the diversity of subjects, the unity of the volume is provided by the general ritual perspective and by the methodological implications of employing such a perspective.

Inclusió i segregació a l'escola: pràctiques inclusives i excloents amb l'alumnat vulnerable

El present article aborda l'anàlisi dels components inclusius dels centres educatius que es plantegen una educació de qualitat per a tot l'alumnat, posant especial atenció en l'alumnat de grups socialment vulnerables. Es basa en les dades qualitatives d¿una part del projecte integrat INCLUD-ED, que estudià 20 casos de centres educatius d'èxit en diferents països de la Unió Europea. Tots els centres atenien alumnat de baix nivell socioeconòmic i havien demostrat tenir més èxit escolar que el conjunt de centres situats en contextos similars. L'article revisa altres investigacions afins i exposa els resultats agrupats en quatre tòpics: l'agrupament de l'alumnat; les expectatives; el suport; i la participació de les famílies i la comunitat. Les conclusions se sotmeten a discussió.

Educación multicultural. Líneas de investigación del Grupo de Investigación en Educación Intercultural (GREDI)

El estudio presenta dos investigaciones paralelas. La primera pretende caracterizar el medio familiar de las minorías estudiadas; conocer la percepción del profesorado sobre su práctica educativa en aulas con diferentes minorías culturales; diagnosticar los valores del alumnado de las minorías y conocer su nivel de integración en el aula, por último analizar las actitudes hacia la educación multicultural del profesorado en general. La segunda investigación pretende comprender la diversidad cultural en la escuela; analizar el tratamiento de la realidad multicultural desde la exploración de la vida en el aula: organización del ambiente de aprendizaje; procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje; estilos de comunicación; relaciones existentes; tipos de disciplina; estimar el nivel de integración de las minorías y descubrir los modelos educativos empleados, dentro y fuera del aula, para abordar la realidad multicultural. A partir de las dos investigaciones se busca identificar las necesidades formativas de los profesores para llevar a cabo una propuesta educativa multicultural.

En aquest article reflexionem sobre el monopoli de les llengües "majoritàries" en l'àmbit de les tecnologies lingüístiques. Analitzem, així mateix, com les llengües minoritàries poden afrontar aquest desafiament i examinem el cas de l'èuscar. Un cop estudiat el desenvolupament de l'èuscar en el camp de les tecnologies lingüístiques, analitzem fins a quin punt aquestes tecnologies poden ajudar el procés de normalització de la llengua.
