The curse of aid

Foreign aid provides a windfall of resources to recipient countries and may result in the same rent seeking behavior as documented in the curse of natural resources literature. In this paper we discuss this effect and document its magnitude. Using data for 108 recipient countries in the period 1960 to 1999, we find that foreign aid has a negative impact on democracy. In particular, if the foreign aid over GDP that a country receives over a period of five years reaches the 75th percentile in the sample, then a 10-point index of democracy is reduced between 0.6 and one point, a large effect. For comparison, we also measure the effect of oil rents on political institutions. The fall in democracy if oil revenues reach the 75th percentile is smaller, (0.02). Aid is a bigger curse than oil.

En la base de datos proporcionados por Pesca Perú-Fertilizantes, se evaluaron las poblaciones de ave marina Larosterma inca (Zarcillo) de 30 lugares de la costa peruana para los años 1963 hasta 1985, poniendo énfasis en la población de la isla Asia.

One hundred issues of Revista Española de Financiación y Contabilidad (REFC)-insights into trends in the Spanish academic community

From the year of its foundation, until the foundation of Revista deContabilidad in 1997, REFC has been the only referred accounting journalin Spain. Published by the Spanish Association for Accounting and BusinessAdministration (AECA), this journal is at the heart of the emergence ofa distinctly Spanish academic accounting community.Our study is based on:1. An analysis of 100 issues of REFC covering the period from 1985 to 1999.2. A questionnaire to Spanish accounting academics on their perceptionsand experience of the journal.Key points emerging from this study include:a) A move away from interest in accounting concepts and rules, as wellas accounting history, and towards positive accounting theory, the impactof accounting information on capital markets, and financial analysis.b) The emergence of a small number of universities as the driving forcein Spanish accounting research.c) Spanish academics rate REFC highly compared to other Spanish journalsfor publication status, as a support for research, and as a support forteaching. A number of English language journals are rated more highly forboth publication status and as a support for teaching.

Productivity growth and the exchange rate regime: The role of financial development

This paper offers empirical evidence that a country's choice of exchange rate regime can have a signifficant impact on its medium-term rate of productivity growth. Moreover, the impact depends critically on the country's level of financial development, its degree of market regulation, and its distance from the global technology frontier. We illustrate how each of these channels may operate in a simple stylized growth model in which real exchange rate uncertainty exacerbates the negative investment e¤ects of domestic credit market constraints. The empirical analysis is based on an 83 country data set spanning the years 1960-2000. Our approach delivers results that are in striking contrast to the vast existing empirical exchange rate literature, which largely finds the effects of exchange rate volatility on real activity to be relatively small and insignificant.

Non-stationary job search when jobs are not forever: A structural estimation

This paper considers a job search model where the environment is notstationary along the unemployment spell and where jobs do not lastforever. Under this circumstance, reservation wages can be lower thanwithout separations, as in a stationary environment, but they can alsobe initially higher because of the non-stationarity of the model. Moreover,the time-dependence of reservation wages is stronger than with noseparations. The model is estimated structurally using Spanish data forthe period 1985-1996. The main finding is that, although the decrease inreservation wages is the main determinant of the change in the exit ratefrom unemployment for the first four months, later on the only effect comesfrom the job offer arrival rate, given that acceptance probabilities areroughly equal to one.

La restitució econòmica a les víctimes

El tema de la restitució econòmica sempre s’ha tingut en compte dins del programa de mediació i reparació a la víctima, ja que sempre hi ha víctimes interessades en la reparació del dany que han sofert. Ara bé, els infractors no sempre tenen les possibilitats econòmiques suficients per a fer-ho. Això crea un conflicte d’interessos al qual cal trobar una sortida si es vol continuar un determinat programa. En el àmbit de menors, aquest tema presenta encara més controvèrsia. Abans de l’any 2001 la responsabilitat civil derivada del delicte no estava prevista en la legislació de menors ni en la Llei de tribunals tutelars de 1948 ni en la reforma disposada per la Llei 4/92. No és fins a l’aparició de la Llei 5/2000 de responsabilitat penal del menor que s’inclou aquest tema. L’any 2001, quan es va començar a aplicar la llei 5/2000, el col·lectiu de mediadors va prioritzar altres aspectes de la seva intervenció abans d’entrar a reflexionar de forma col·lectiva sobre el tema econòmic i el fet que els jutges de menors tinguessin competència en temes de responsabilitat civil. De tota manera, els temes econòmics sempre s’han tractat dins del programa de mediació i reparació a la víctima. Això s’ha fet de forma ininterrompuda des de l’inici del programa, l’any 1990, amb les evolucions que el pas del temps obliga. En els darrers anys, i amb l’augment de personal en el col·lectiu, s’han anat observant diferències de criteris i formes d’aplicació dels diferents professionals. És per això que es considera que ha arribat el moment de reprendre el tema i ajudar a crear unes mínimes línies comunes.

Propuesta creativa para la nueva línea de vinos ENJOYME

El projecte presentat en aquest document formal conté la proposta per a la nova marca de vins Enjoyme, el projecte consta de la creació de diverses peces gràfiques per tal de construir una proposta global per a la marca. L’encàrrec per part del client consta de: construcció de marca Enjoyme (logotip), lloc web enfocat a la venda on line, packaging del producte, OPI i revista digital. Cadascuna d’aquestes peces es troba explicada detalladament dins d’aquest document amb les seves respectives especificacions creatives, tècniques, estratègiques i econòmiques. El concepte creatiu d’aquesta campanya “Cultiva els teus sentits” està reflectit en cadascuna de les peces, formant un equilibri en conjunt. La idea central de la campanya s’enfoca a transmetre als clients totes les sensacions que li pot donar la natura en ser humà, tenint en compte l’orgànic i biodinàmic com a part fonamental del projecte, ja que aquest producte elaborat amb aquest tipus d’agricultura.
