The purpose of this work was to evaluate the corrosion of commercially pure (CP) titanium and Ti6Al4V in vitro at different F- concentrations regularly found in the oral cavity by using different electrochemical tests and surface analysis techniques. electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), open circuit potential (OCP) and potentio-dynamic polarization tests were associated to advanced characterization techniques such as SEM, EDS, AFM, ICP-MS and XPS. OCP tests revealed a higher reactivity of both CP titanium and Ti6Al4V at 12,300 ppm F- concentration than that recorded at 227 ppm F-. Also, a significant decrease of the corrosion resistance of both materials was noticed by EIS in fluoride solutions. Material loss caused by corrosion was noticed on titanium surfaces by SEM and AFM in the presence of high F- concentration. CP titanium degraded by pitting corrosion while Ti6Al4V suffered from general corrosion showing micro-cracks on surface. Furthermore, a high release of metallic ions from the test samples after immersion at high F concentrations was detected by ICP-MS, that can be potentially toxic to oral tissues. This study evaluated the in vitro enamel remineralization capacity of experimental composite resins containing sodium trimetaphosphate (TMP) combined or not with fluoride (F). Bovine enamel slabs were selected upon analysis of initial surface hardness (SH1) and after induction of artificial carious lesions (SH2). Experimental resins were as follows: resin C (control-no sodium fluoride (NaF) or TMP), resin F (with 1.6 % NaF), resin TMP (with 14.1 % TMP), and resin TMP/F (with NaF and TMP). Resin samples were made and attached to enamel slabs (n = 12 slabs per material). Those specimens (resin/enamel slab) were subjected to pH cycling to promote remineralization, and then final surface hardness (SH3) was measured to calculate the percentage of surface hardness recovery (%SH). The integrated recovery of subsurface hardness (ΔKHN) and F concentration in enamel were also determined. Data was analyzed by ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls test (p < 0.05). Resins F and TMP/F showed similar SH3 values (p = 0.478) and %SH (p = 0.336) and differed significantly from the other resins (p < 0.001). Considering ΔKHN values, resin TMP/F presented the lowest area of lesion (p < 0.001). The presence of F on enamel was different among the fluoridated resins (p = 0.042), but higher than in the other resins (p < 0.001). The addition of TMP to a fluoridated composite resin enhanced its capacity for remineralization of enamel in vitro. The combination of two agents with action on enamel favored remineralization, suggesting that composite resins containing sodium trimetaphosphate and fluoride could be indicated for clinical procedures in situations with higher cariogenic challenges.

An experimental study was undertaken in arder to find out lhe behavior of the required force to yield dislodgement of circumierential clasps of removable partial dentures ou two groups of samples. 1 with retentive terminais engaging and acting ou enamel 2 with retentive terminais engaging on enamel and acting on composite resm With this aim a device was designed based on a sewing machine (brand name Elgin) that could repeatedly simulate lhe introduction-removal movement of circunferencial clasps ou the samples. ln addiction the device had a platform to sustain the samples and permit measurements, a cycle counter and a dynamometer. The samples were constructed by inclusion in dental stone of extracted natural molar teeth whose retentive areas were ou natural enamel or composite resin addictions. The clasps were fabricated from wax ups of resin and wax and were cast with chromium cobalt alloy. The composite resin used was one of the last generation, monomodal type, photopolymerized and binded to the enamel by the acid etching technique. Tests were carried out in aqueous enviroment. Is was established a maximum of 5.000 cycles for each of the samples. Observatins were made from 100 to 100 cycles until 2.000 and from 200 to 200 cycles to 5.000. Results showed that variations in the amount of the required force for dislodgement of the clasps from the samples during the test periods had no significancy eather to those with retentive areas on the enamel or to those with retentive fabricated with addictions of composite resin
