Necrólise epidérmica tóxica/síndrome de Stevens Johnson: emergência em dermatologia pediátrica

Contexto: É descrito caso clínico de farmacodermia grave e de alta letalidade, cujo reconhecimento imediato é fundamental. Relato decaso: Paciente do sexo masculino de três anos de idade, cuja mãe refere histórico de crises convulsivas, consultou-se com neurologistaparticular, que prescreveu ácido valproico. Uma semana depois, voltou a ter crise convulsiva, sendo então introduzida lamotrigina.Poucos dias depois, a criança começou apresentar tosse e coriza hialina. Procurou pronto-socorro de sua cidade e foi orientada a usarfluimucil. Iniciou, então, febre e exantema máculo-papular inicialmente na face, que depois se generalizou. Foi levantada a hipótesediagnóstica de farmacodermia secundária à associação de anticonvulsivante. Discussão: Síndrome de Stevens-Johnson e necróliseepidérmica tóxica são variantes do mesmo processo mucocutâneo agudo, raro e grave, causado principalmente por reação adversaa fármacos e caracterizado por erupção cutânea macular de padrão eritematoso, formação de bolhas de conteúdo sero-hemático edestacamento epidérmico. As afecções são diferenciadas pela porcentagem de superfície corpórea acometida, sendo menor que10% na síndrome de Stevens-Johnson, e maior que 30% na necrólise epidérmica tóxica. O prognóstico pode ser estimado através doescore Severity Illness Score for Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis (SCORTEN), que prevê mortalidade de até 90% para os casos mais graves.O tratamento consiste na interrupção imediata da droga, transferência do paciente para unidade de queimados ou unidade de terapiaintensiva, e medidas de suporte. Terapias adjuvantes, como imunoglobulinas intravenosas e corticosteroides, ainda não têm papelconsolidado na literatura. Conclusões: Relata-se afecção rara e extremamente grave cuja suspeição clínica é importante na conduçãodo tratamento.

The Henry Radcliffe Sims Papers consist primarily of personal and business correspondence and offers a good source of information on the Sims family's varied interests in South Carolina, especially their businesses in Orangeburg, South Carolina. The correspondence generally deals with Henry Sims' brief military career; his presidency at Winthrop; his efforts along with his brothers' help to establish a radio station at Orangeburg; his constant concern in the Sims Publishing Company; his interest in the political and educational welfare of his nephews; his devotion to his family; and his association with various South Carolina legislators. Areas of research would perhaps include, among others, biographical information on Sims and his family; their contributions to South Carolina, especially in the area of publications (ex. Times and Democrat’s historical development). There is also material relating to Sims’ nephew, Hugo Sims Jr., and the latter’s 1946 campaign for a seat in the South Carolina House of Representatives. Correspondents include Olin Johnston, Burnet Rhett Maybank, John T. Riley and Strom Thurmond.

Minimun Riparian Buffer Width for Maintaining Water Quality and Habitat Along Stevens Creek

ABSTRACT Riparian buffer zones are important sites of biodiversity, sediment trapping, pollutant removal, and hydrologic regulation that have significant implications for both people and wildlife. Urbanization’s influence on and need for adequate water quality increases the need for careful planning in regards to riparian areas. Wildlife are key components in the ecosystem functions of riparian zones and require consideration in peri-urban planning as well. This study reviews relevant literature to determine the recommended minimum riparian buffer width for maintaining water quality and habitat along Stevens Creek in Lincoln, Nebraska. Only sources that listed a specific purpose related to water quality and habitat for their buffer width recommendations were considered. The study found that the baseline buffer width recommended for Stevens Creek that would be adequate for both water quality maintenance and basic habitat is 50 ft (15 m) per side. This number may be modified based on other factors such as slope, soil particle size, adjacent land use, the presence of certain wildlife communities, stream size, and stream order.

Henry Melson Stommel : from pionner to clasic

[EN] Stommel has been the most important physicist oceanographer of the second half of the XX century. Builder, to a great extent, of the present Dynamical Oceanography. He contributed to the transformation of the Oceanography from a sort of appendix of the studies of the Atmosphere to a new specialty of Geophysics. After graduating in Astronomy in Yale in 1942 he started his research participating in the WWII effort, collaborating together with many other future oceanographers, in support of the USA Navy. Research that was carried out in the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). Between 1959 and 1978 he was professor of oceanography in Harvard U. first, and later in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, returning to WHOI where he stayed until his death. Stommel established important and fundamental theories on the ocean global circulation and studied many other oceanographic phenomena. This theoretical activity he combined with not a less important observational one. He received many awards and hhonors, including the Craadford prize, equivalent to the Nobel in Geosciences.

La rue Mallet-Stevens forma e linguaggi nell'architettura di Mallet-Stevens

La ricerca ha avuto come obiettivo l’analisi delle residenze lungo la rue Mallet-Stevens, a Parigi, realizzate da Robert Mallet-Stevens negli anni 1925-1930. Si tratta di un intervento pensato unitariamente, i cui dispositivi spaziali sono rivelatori tanto del concetto spazio-forma, quanto del processo d’ideazione dello stesso nell’ambito dei paradigmi gestaltici e compositivi della modernità. All’epoca la necessità di espressione e affermazione di un simile concetto si tradusse nell’interpretazione spaziale dalla scala dell’abitazione alla scala della città. Le residenze, realizzate nella zona di Auteuil (16 arrondissement), occupano l’area di una nuova lottizzazione, da cui il successivo nome dell’intervento: case su rue Mallet-Stevens. Il programma comprendeva cinque abitazioni, commissionate da artisti e ricchi borghesi, una piccola maison per il guardiano del confinante parco, e un progetto, mai realizzato che nella prima versione comprendeva due interventi: un hôtel particulier e un edificio per appartamenti. La rue Mallet-Stevens si costituì come frammento di città possibile, ove si manifestava un’idea di urbanità chiaramente ispirata al modello della città giardino e ai valori del vivere moderno. I volumi “stereometrici” sono la cifra dell’idea di spazio che, a quel punto della sua attività, Mallet-Stevens aveva maturato sia come architetto, sia come scenografo. La metodologia di analisi critica dell’oggetto architettonico adottata in questa ricerca, si è servita di una lettura incrociata del testo (l’oggetto architettonico), del paratesto (ciò che l’autore ha scritto di sé e della propria opera) e dell’intertesto, in altre parole l’insieme di quelle relazioni che possono ricondurre sia ad altre opere dello stesso autore, sia ai modelli cui l’architetto ha fatto riferimento. Il ridisegno bidimensionale e tridimensionale degli edifici della rue Mallet-Stevens ha costituito lo strumento fondamentale di analisi per la comprensione dei temi architettonici. Le conclusioni cui la ricerca è giunta mostrano come la posizione culturale di Mallet-Stevens si è arricchita di molteplici influenze creative, sulla scia di una consapevole e costante strategia di contaminazione. Mallet-Stevens, osservando i linguaggi a lui contemporanei, si appropriò della componente morfologica del progetto, privilegiandola rispetto a quella sintattica, per poi giungere ad una personalissima sintesi delle stesse.
