No Evidence for moral reward and punishment in an anonymous context.

Human social interactions are regulated by moral norms that define individual obligations and rights. These norms are enforced by punishment of transgressors and reward of followers. Yet, the generality and strength of this drive to punish or reward is unclear, especially when people are not personally involved in the situation and when the actual impact of their sanction is only indirect, i.e., when it diminishes or promotes the social status of the punished or rewarded individual. In a real-life study, we investigated if people are inclined to anonymously punish or reward a person for her past deeds in a different social context. Participants from three socio-professional categories voted anonymously for early career violinists in an important violin competition. We found that participants did not punish an immoral violin candidate, nor did they reward another hyper-moral candidate. On the contrary, one socio-professional category sanctioned hyper-morality. Hence, salient moral information about past behavior did not elicit punishment or reward in an impersonal situation where the impact of the sanction was indirect. We conclude that contextual features play an important role in human motivation to enforce moral norms.

The Impact of Supervisor's Advice, Codes of Conduct, Accountability and Moral Attentiveness of Individuals on Discriminatory Behaviour Against Immigrants.

Past studies on the personnel selection demonstrated that a supervisor's advice to discriminate can lead to compliant behaviours. This study had the aim to extend past findings by examining what can overcome the powerful influence of the hierarchy. 50 Swiss managers participated to an in-basket exercise. The main task was to evaluate Swiss candidates (in-group) and foreigners (out-groups: Spanish and Kosovo Albanians) and to select two applicants for a job interview. Main results were the effect of codes of conduct to prevent discrimination against out-group applicants in the presence of a supervisor's advice to prefer in-group members. But, when participants were accountable to an audience, this beneficial effect disappears because participants followed the supervisor's advice. The second aim was to assess if the difference in responses between participants was related to their difference in moral attentiveness. Results showed some significant relationships but not always in the direction expected.

Den biografiska litteraturen vid huvudbiblioteket är till och med år 1999 samlad under signum HB Vc i tre klasser, HB Vc1 personhistoria, HB Vc2 historiker över flere personer och HB Vc3 släktforskning. Samlingen med signum HB Vc1 personhistoria omfattar memoarer och biografier om enskilda personer. Dessutom finns ett stort antal biografiska särtryck och småskrifter som är ordnade i tre kapselsamlingar. Kapselsamling HB Vc1 A omfattar material om finlandssvenskar från svenska tiden, dvs intill år 1810. Kapselsamling HB Vc1 B omfattar material om finländare från och med år 1810. Kapselsamling HB Vc1 C omfattar s.k. personskrifter om utlänningar. Memoarer och biografiska arbeten har ingått i talrika bokdonationer såväl från hemlandet som från Sverige. Friexemplar har erhållits från år 1919. Utgivningen har kontinuerligt följts med och genom inköp har samlingen kompletterats. Litteraturen i samlingen söks i databasen Alma med sökfunktionen Signum och söktermen HB Vc1. En del litteratur tryckt före 1980 skall sökas manuellt i huvudbibliotekets realkatalog eller systematiska katalog, men retroaktiv inmatning i Alma av litteratur tryckt mellan 1830 och 1979 pågår. Litteratur vid hela akademibiblioteket från och med år 2000 söks i Alma med personens namn som sökterm vid ämnesordssökning (fritext).

Bok- och biblioteksväsen

Samlingen med signum HB Ib finns vid huvudbiblioteket och innehåller böcker, småskrifter och kataloger om böcker och om bibliotek. Bok- och biblioteksväsen har särskilt intresserat bibliotekets överbibliotekarier och detta har gjort att samlingen vid huvudbiblioteket blivit mycket omfattande, över 13.600 titlar, genom ett aktivt anskaffande av speciellt utländskt material som komplement till den litteratur som från och med år 1919 erhållits som friexemplar. Huvudbibliotekets systematiska kortkatalog som går till år 1980 är finindelad i klasserna HB Ib1 – HB Ib7. Etnografisk och antropologisk litteratur vid hela akademibiblioteket från och med år 2000 söks i Alma med sökfunktionen Avancerad sökning med söktermerna antropol-, ethnogra- och etno-
