The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean, in collaboration with the World Bank, conducted a week-long Regional Workshop on Microdata Documentation and Dissemination. The workshop, which was funded by the Partnership in Statistics for Development in the Twenty-First Century (PARIS21) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), was held at the Hilton Hotel and Conference Centre in Port of Spain, Trinidad, from 26 to 30 April 2010. The main objective of the workshop was to provide training to member States on the Microdata Management Toolkit. This toolkit was developed by International Household Surveys Networks (IHSN) to assist in the documentation, dissemination and preservation of household survey, census and microdata in accordance with international standards and best practices. The training was organized in response to numerous requests by directors of statistics in the region for the development of capacity in that area. It was specifically timed to meet the training needs of those offices ahead of the 2010 round of Population and Housing Censuses.

In the context of university libraries, optimization services, streamlining processes and consistency of processing and organization of informational content are strongly influenced by the indexing policy adopted by the information system. This discussion has proposed to perform a theoretical and methodological research on the subject cataloging in order to contribute to the definition of indexing policy elements in medical university library. To achieve our objective, we applied three instruments: Organizational Culture, Individual Verbal Protocol and Evaluation of Indexing. Considers the importance of developing an indexing policy for improvements in processes and services offered by university libraries, as well as the retrieval.

This paper reports the results of an extension project carried out at Unesp/Veterinary Medicine course in Araçatuba city with milk farmers of the region. The aim of the project was to supply information to farmers concerning to good quality milk production and, at the same time, to follow up the evolution of milk quality parameters, according to the current Brazilian legislation. Every 45 days, approximately, lectures were presented to milk farmers in Araçatuba city region, approaching chemical and microbiological composition of milk, prevention and detection of mastitis, hygiene proceedings in milking and conservation of milk, cleaning and sanitization operations of facilities and equipments and prevention of adulteration. During the intervals between lectures, milk samples were collected from collective milk cooling tanks and analyzed for microbiological, hygienic and physicochemical tests. The main inadequacies in milk quality were high total bacteria and somatic cells counts, low solids contents and water addition. These problems did not proceed to betterment during the project time. So, it was concluded that the time for instruction of farmers was not enough for a progress in the quality of the milk produced in the region, pointing out the need in continuing this kind of work.

The aim of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity of Moringa (Moringa oleifera Lam.) leaves flour in beef burger during storage for 120 days. Six hamburger formulations were processed: one control (without the use of additives), four with addition of Moringa leaves flour (0.10, 0.15, 0.20, and 0.25 g/100 g aggregate), and one with addition of synthetic antioxidant Propyl Gallate (0.01 g/100 g aggregate). The products were analyzed for their chemical composition with determinations of moisture, protein, dietary fiber, lipids, ash, carbohydrate, and caloric value after preparation. Microbiological and acceptance testing were performed at the beginning and after 120 days of storage. Determination of pH, instrumental color and lipid oxidation (TBARS) were performed at 1, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days of storage. All samples showed physical-chemical and microbiological tests in accordance with the Brazilian legislation. pH measurements were between 5.48 and 5.90; however, the intensity of red has changed according to the treatments and storage periods. The addition of Moringa leaves flour had no antioxidant effect on burgers, but its inclusion not only contributed to the improvement of nutritional quality, but also did not harm product acceptance.

The present study aims to identify families who have stock and are making use of medications, as well as assess the conditions of storage, security and use of these drugs. The study was conducted in a city of São Paulo, the interviews were conducted in households enrolled in one of ten units of the Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF) that the city provides and the sample was defined by means of stratified random sampling (134households, IC 95%). Data collection was conducted through interviews with a semistructured questionnaire during the first half of 2011. We interviewed 118 (88.0%) households, of which 112 (95.0%) had medications that were stored n insecure or inadequate places in 75.4% of households, non-prescription self-medication was a common practice in 46 (47 4%) households, and lack of identification and security of medications stored was observed in 60 (53.6%) households. Most households had stock of medicines, which were done improperly or unsecure, or have specialties with lack of identification and security, which can lead to poisoning or e ineffective therapy. The Pharmaceutical Assistance under SUS lacks social initiatives, with actions directed for medications users, which can be supplied by the presence of the pharmacist in the ESF, essential for the promotion of racional use of medicines, that, through the Pharmaceutical Care, can identify, correct and prevent possible problems related to drugs.

This study aimed to evaluate the hydrothermal effect on conservation of two jabuticaba fruits, Myrciaria jabuticaba Vell. Berg. Fruits were subjected to thermal treatment by 10 min at 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 ºC and wrapped into expanded polystyrene trays, stored at 9 ºC and 85-90% RH, being evaluated every 5 d. Shelf life, weight loss, respiratory rate, soluble solids, titrable acidity, texture, C vitamin, pH, total and soluble pectin and polypheno loxidase activity were evaluated. Lower shelf life was observed for control treatment (31 d) and largest was found at 15, 20 and 25 ºC (45 d). A sligthly delay was observed in the breathing pick at 15, 20 and 25 ºC at 25 d and not in the 20 d as observed in the other treatments. Soluble solids increased with storage time for all of temperature treatment, but at 15, 20 and 25 ºC increase was smaller. Texture an C vitamin were higher in fruits stored at 25 ºC. Soluble pectin was smaller at the end of storage period, at temperatures of 20 and 25 ºC. Polyphenoloxidase activity decreased along 30 d regardless storage temperature. Treatments at 20 and 25 ºC were the most effective for mainteining posthaverst quality of the jabuticaba fruits.

São diversificadas as recomendações referentes à temperatura (T°) e umidade relativa do ar (UR) no armazenamento de materiais esterilizados em Centrais de Material e Esterilização (CME), sem que essas recomendações estejam embasadas em referenciais teóricos ou experimentos. A prática mostra dificuldades em controlar esses parâmetros, suscitando dúvidas quanto ao risco para a manutenção da esterilidade dos materiais. Este artigo propôs, por meio de uma revisão bibliográfica integrativa, identificar e analisar as recomendações referentes à T° e UR indicadas para o setor de guarda dos materiais na CME. Não foi encontrada literatura que justifique tais recomendações. Foram incluídas sete publicações que analisaram as variáveis T° e UR da área de armazenagem como fatores que podem afetar a manutenção do material esterilizado, e apresentaram resultados contraditórios quanto à interferência desses fatores na manutenção da esterilidade dos materiais.

[ES] La obtención de agua potable mediante técnicas de desalinización está muy extendida en canarias, para ello se requieren elevados consumos de energía que pueden disminuirse incorporando un recuperador de energía. En este trabajo se ha estudiado el comportamiento de un sistema de recuperación de energía, tipo PX, bajo condiciones variables de energía para una planta de o.I. de 115m3/día, de esta manera se podrá profundizar en el comportamiento de estos sistemas en régimen variable. El concepto nuevo que se introduce en este proyecto es el diseño de sistemas de desalinización que puedan funcionar eficientemente con suministro de potencia variable. Esto implica la integración directa de la energía renovable y la ósmosis inversa sin dispositivo alguno para el almacenamiento de energía.

[ES] Uno de los requisitos fundamentales en el almacenamiento y transmisión de información multimedia es el disponer de técnicas eficaces de compresión y descompresión de datos en el emisor y receptor del canal de comunicación. Para el caso particular de dispositivos móviles de última generación, los cuales transmiten a través de canales inalámbricos caracterizados por bajos anchos de banda y alta probabilidad de introducción de errores, resulta aún más evidente la necesidad de disponer de altas tasas de compresión así como de técnicas que proporcionen mayor inmunidad de la información ante el ruido. En este artículo se proponen algoritmos de post-procesamiento de bajo coste computacional que permiten, de manera eficaz, compaginar altas tasas de compresión de vídeo con la obtención de imágenes de gran calidad en el receptor. Estas técnicas están basadas en el análisis previo de las secuencias de vídeo a comprimir, mejorando, independientemente de las características de las mismas, los resultados obtenidos en trabajos realizados previamente.

[ES] El principal objetivo de este Trabajo Final de Grado (TFG) fue la creación de un sistema de gestión de vídeo distribuido utilizando cámaras de videovigilancia IP. Esta propuesta surgió a partir de la idea de ofrecer un acceso simultáneo, tanto online como offline, a las secuencias de vídeo generadas por una red de cámaras IP en un entorno dado. El resultado obtenido fue una infraestructura software ampliable  que ofrece al usuario una serie de funcionalidades con cámaras de red, abstrayéndolo de detalles internos. El trabajo está compuesto por tres elementos claramente diferenciados: integración de cámaras IP, almacenamiento en vídeo y creación del sistema de vídeo distribuido. La integración de cámaras IP tiene como objetivo comunicar al equipo con la cámara de red para la obtención del flujo de imágenes que transmite. Dicha comunicación se establece vía HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) gracias a la interfaz de programación (API) de la que disponen estos dispositivos. El segundo elemento, el almacenamiento en vídeo, tiene como función guardar las imágenes de la cámara IP en archivos de vídeo. De esta manera se ofrece su posterior visualización en diferido. Finalmente, el sistema de vídeo distribuido permite la reproducción simultánea de múltiples vídeos grabados por la red de cámaras IP. Adicionalmente, vídeos grabados por otros dispositivos también son admitidos. El material desarrollado dispone del potencial necesario para convertirse en una herramienta libre de amplio uso en sistemas UNIX para cámaras IP, así como suponer la base de futuros proyectos relacionados con estos dispositivos.
