The following research project deals with the development of new analytical procedures aimed at the identification and quantification of the element zinc in different fractions of vegetable drugs used for weight loss, using the high-resolution continuum source atomic absorption spectrometry in flame. The determination of the levels of zinc was made in an AnalytikJena ContrAA 300 spectrometer in the principal line of Zn at 213.857 nm and wavelength integrated absorbance equal to 3 pixels. Calibration curves were obtained with linear dynamic range from 0.10 to 1.00 mg L-1, correlation coefficient equal to 0.9991 and limit of detection equal to 0.020 mg L-1. The total Zn content in the samples obtained after microwave-assisted acid digestion system were: 28.06 mg kg-1 (Artichoke), 31.49 mg kg-1 (Chamomile), 77.16 mg kg-1 (Gorse), 105.38 mg kg-1 (Horsetail), 32.37 mg kg-1 (Fennel) and 5.00 mg kg-1 (Senna). The extraction in aqueous environment assisted by microwave radiation produced extracts containing: 5.40 mg kg-1 (Artichoke), 10.65 mg kg-1 (Chamomile), 14.83 mg kg-1 (Gorse), 18.90 mg kg-1 (Horsetail), 7.80 mg kg-1 (Fennel), 3.24 mg kg-1 (Senna), corresponding to 19%, 34%, 19%, 18%, 24% and 64% of their total content of Zn, respectively. The amounts of Zn in the extracted samples from some plants indicate that this metal was strongly bounded to the plant's matrix. The sequential extraction using solvents and mixtures with different polarities (n-hexane, ethyl acetate, propanol, methanol, ethanol-water 1:1 (v/v), water) aimed the separation of different Zn containing species and water was considered the most efficient extractor. The Zn contents extracted were: 14.82 mg kg-1 (Artichoke), 16.82 mg kg-1 (Chamomile), 34.09 mg kg-1 (Gorse), 4.75 mg kg-1 (Senna), corresponding to 53% in the first two samples, 44% and 95% for the last two, respectively. It was observed that Zn is found complexed under

The concentration of nutrients in plant is related to the soil, fertilization, climate, season, cultivar and cultural practices. Aiming to evaluate the soil chemical properties, the dry matter production of shoots and roots, nutrient content in the plant and the chemical composition of the grass Tierra Verde subjected to levels of organic biofertilizer as nitrogen source, an experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine , UNESP, Araçatuba-SP, January-September 2010. Treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design with six fertilized biofertilizer doses (0, 33, 66, 132, 264, 528 m3 ha-1) and five repetitions for three cuts. We used the model split plot, with doses of biofertilizer considered as main treatments and cuts as sub-plots. We obtained a linear response in the production of dry mass of shoots and roots to the dose of 528 m3 ha-1 of organic biofertilizer. Nitrogen fertilization influenced the soil chemical properties and levels of organic matter, sulfur, boron and manganese, and in foliar levels of phosphorus, potassium and copper. The chemical composition was not altered by the influence of organic biofertilizer doses applied to the soil.

Introduction: The fluoridation surveillance in the public water supply came up with the need to develop mechanisms that would help society in the control of water quality. To perform reliable analysis, variables such as depth of the wells and pluvial variations should be subject of research and study. Objectives: To analyze the fluoride levels of deep wells in periods of rain and drought, corresponding to four brazilian cities and compare the results. Methodology: It was made the mapping of the water supply network and the identification of the sampling points according to the number of deep wells in each locality, selecting those who had the natural fluoride level. Three points were defined for each source of water supply, and the addresses were randomly selected. The samples were analyzed in duplicate at the laboratory of the Center for Research in Public Health of the Dentistry School of Araçatuba – UNESP, during 8 months, in periods of rain and drought (total absence of rain). Results: 174 analysis were conducted, the mean fluoride levels for rain and drought times were, respectively: 0,71 and 0,73. It was used the Student’s t test (p <0.05). Conclusion: There wasn’t statistically significant differences for the periods of rain and drought in any of the cities, at the year of 2010. This study highlights the importance of health surveillance, because beyond of ensuring social control, there is also the search for investigating variables that may have directly and / or indirectly influence on the results of the analysis.

The planting of seedlings, the establishment and maintenance of the natural regeneration process, or the combination thereof, are methods used in the recovery of degraded or disturbed environments, however, often require the addition of soil conditioners. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of conditioners, introduced in degraded soil on growth and nutritional status of Astronium fraxinifolium seedlings. To conduct the experimentation were used as degraded soil conditioner, ash from sugarcane bagasse (CZ) and macrophytes (MC), at the doses of 0, 15, 30 and 45 t ha-1 and 0, 16 and 32 t ha-1 respectively, which combined produced 12 treatments, with three replications, and for field installation, was used the experimental randomized block design. Astronium fraxinifolium (Gonçalo Alves) seedlings, native tree species in cerrado, were introduced in the experimental area and, after 12 months, were evaluated for leaf concentration of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, boron, copper, iron, manganese and zinc (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn, respectively). Seedlings and adult plants of A. fraxinifolium were collected in preserved cerrado reserve were also analyzed for nutrients foliar concentration to perform a comparative analysis. The leaves collection in the preserved cerrado and experimental area, was accompanied by soil sampling (0.0 - 0,20 m deep), which was analyzed for phosphorus, OM (organic matter), pH, K, Ca, Mg, Al+H (potential acidity), Al (aluminum), Cu, Fe, Mn and Zn. The results show that the applied residues contributed to raise the foliar concentration of Cu and Fe. The foliar concentration of nutrients was higher in A. fraxinifolium seedlings from preserved cerrado, except for B, which was similar between areas, besides Cu and Fe with higher levels in the seedlings from experimental area. The combined addition of residues (MC and CZ), led to increase the plants height and diameter. This...

This study aimed at determining the levels of macronutrients (N, P, K, Ca, Mg and S) in grafted plants by contact methods such as bevel, cleft grafting by full rift and approach, as compared to non grafted plants. Analyses were performed in different parts of the plants under fertigation in a greenhouse. The hybrid and rootstock were AF 7125 and AF 8253, respectively. The nutrients were supplied via fertigation during the 150-day cycle. The experiment was carried out at the Teaching, Research and Production Farm in São Manuel city, SP which belongs to FCA-UNESP Campus in Botucatu city/SP. A total of 4 treatments and 5 replications were used. Each plot consisted of 12 plants. Chemical analyses were performed in one plant per plot at 35, 85, 112 and 143 days after transplantation to determine nutrient concentrations. The results showed that the macronutrient concentrations in a decreasing sequence in the vegetative parts (leaf + stem) were as follows: K > N > Ca > Mg > S > P; and in the fruits: K > N > P > S > Mg > Ca. Macronutrient concentrations were similar among grafted plants as compared to ungrafted plants, and the rootstock may have influenced absorption and translocation of minerals in grafted plants.

Macronutrients in grafted cucumber in areas with gall nematodes. Grafting is an often recommended technique for cucumber culture in areas infested with gall nematodes. This study aimed to evaluate the content of macronutrients in grafted cucumber in two rootstocks on soil infested with Meloidogyne incognita race 2 or Meloidogyne javanica, since they may decrease the effectiveness of water and nutrient absorption. One evaluated 9 treatments (factorial 3x3: nongrafted hybrid cucumber Tsuyataro, grafted on squash hybrid Shelper or grafted on squash hybrid Excitte Ikki x without inoculation, inoculation with M. incognita or M. javanica), in a randomized blocks design, with 4 replicates and 6 plants per plot. The characteristics evaluated were: macronutrient content at 72 days after transplantation and macronutrient content at the end of the cycle (99 days after transplantation). The nutrient contents evaluated didn’t differ according to the nematode species (with or without inoculation), however, there’re differences with regard to the rootstocks, with higher values of phosphorus and potassium in grafted plants and higher values of magnesium, calcium, and sulfur in nongrafted plants at the end of cycle.
