En ce travail nous discutons les limitation et les possibilites du développement qui rèsultent du process d'implantation d'une Association Intermunicipalee de la regiòn centrale du Estado São Paulo - Brasil. C èst une iniciative locale, sous les règles de la coopération Brasil-Italia. Les participants des cette association sont les villes du Araraquara, Ibaté, Gavião Peixoto, Ribeirão Bonito e São Carlos. En l'article ce sont aporteè les limitatiòn y les possibilitees de la gestion publique en la region. L association est proposeè comme un instrument du gestiòn de la politique locale.

Curauá fibers in the automobile industry - a sustainability assessment

Replacing glass fibers with natural fibers in the automobile industry can yield economic, environmental and social benefits. This article evaluates the prospective environmental impacts of automobile applications of curauá fiber (Ananas erectifolius), which nearly equates the physical properties of glass fibers. The study identified economic and social advantages of applying curauá fiber composites in car parts. Besides costing 50% less than fiber glass, the use of curauá fibers can promote regional development in the Amazon region. In order to realize significant environmental benefits, however, the curauá-based composites would have to be lighter than their glass fiber-based counterparts. © 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Aspectos Históricos e organizacionais da agricultura familiar no desenvolvimento da região Nova Alta Paulista

Nova Alta Paulista region, with strong aptitude for agribusiness, is one of the poorest in the state of São Paulo. However, the development of agribusiness productive chains in the region is very heterogeneous. The study aimed at analyzing how the historical background and organizational arrangements in family farming have contributed to regional development by promoting improvements in social welfare at Nova Alta Paulista region. To this end, we analyzed the case of the Associação Agrícola de Junqueirópolis - AAJ, an organization that has been successful in the search for alternative of agricultural production. Integrated to local and global market, this organization has ensured the maintenance of many farmers and generated positive externalities for the entire region. Thus, this case shows the organizational arrangement based on cooperation can be an alternative for family farmers achieve higher levels of welfare and development.
