The purpose of this study envisaged the quantification of skin and respiratory exposures occasioned by work conditions during pesticide spraying of citrus fruits using hand gun sprayers; the evaluation of the efficiency of individual and group protection measures for the workers; the determination of workers' most exposed body regions; and the classification of work conditions, with and without the tested work-safety protection measures as recommended for the registered pesticides used to control the main pests and diseases that attack these types of trees and fruits. The AZR protection equipment proved to be the most efficient for the tractor driver, when spraying using pistol sprayers. The two sets of individual protection equipment that were checked also proved to be efficient. The most exposed regions of the tractor driver's body were the thighs, the front of the legs, the feet and hands. The most exposed regions of the individual sprayer working on foot were the hands and feet.

The objective of the present study was to compare in which part (lower limb or upper limb) the repeated bout effect has the greatest magnitude. Twelve males individuals with no recent (6 months) experience with resisted training participated in this study. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups (legs and arms) and came to the laboratory 5 times. 1st) adaptation to the dynamometer. 2nd) to perform one bout of eccentric exercise (EE) and provide markers such as isometric peak torque (IPT), delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) (both collected before and after the bout) and concentration of the creatine kinase (CK) enzyme in the blood (only before the bout). 3rd) 48 after the first bout the same markers were collected again. After 14 days, the methodologies used in the 2nd and 3rd visits to the laboratory were repeated respectively to determine the repeated bout effect. A significant decrease of IPT and a significant increase of CK and DOMS were found immediately after and 48 hours after the first bout of EE for the arms group. The legs group showed a significant increase in CK (48 hours after the EE) and DOMS (immediately after the EE) resulting from the first bout. In the arms group, the second bout did not cause significant increase in CK or DOMS on any of the situations, however, it provoked a decrease in force production immediately after the EE. The legs group showed a significant increase of DOMS immediately after the second bout of EE, which caused no significant increase in CK. The only marker in which the repeated bout effect happened for both groups was CK. No significant difference was found between the protections for both groups. Taking into account the results, it’s been discussed whether there is a relation between the susceptibility to muscle damage and the repeated bout effect, and also...(Complete abstract click electronic access below)

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are adult multipotent cells with fibroblastoid morphology and adherent to plastic. Furthermore, they can be obtained from different sources. Besides bone marrow, these cells are taken from umbilical cord blood, umbilical vein, saphenous vein, peripheral blood, arteries, liver and fetal pancreas, placenta, dental pulp and adipose tissue. MSCs derived from adipose tissue are important because of the abundant number of cells that can be obtained from this tissue, easy access and little discomfort to the patient. This study compared two techniques for obtaining MSCs from adipose tissue: mechanical dissociation (MD) and enzymatic digestion (ED). We also analyzed the inter-species cross-reactions using commercial monoclonal antibodies directed against surface antigens of stem cells from different species: mouse, horse, rabbit, monkey and human. We found that MD technique is favorable in relation to ED within 15 days of culture, and ED is more efficient in the first days of culture. The data also showed that MD causes less damage to cellular DNA. About inter-species cross-reactions, the monoclonal antibody A69 directed against stem cells from rabbits, which can be used in veterinary medicine, particularly in research involving horses

The monolithic glassy carbon is a carbonaceous material, isotropic, non graphitizable obtained by means of carbonization of resins up to 1000 °C. The good physicochemical properties make this material applied in several areas such as aerospace, medicine, electronics, chemistry, among others. It has generally been processed from the use of phenolic and furfuryl alcohol resins. These resins have high crosslink density and high fixed carbon content and are therefore widely applied in aerospace. The combination phenol / furfuryl alcohol resins search for obtaining the most suitable process for the glass-like carbon processing with phenolic resins currently available and of lower cost and easier to synthesize than the furfuryl alcohol resin. The main objective of this work is to obtain a phenol-furfuryl resin with high fixed carbon content combined with low porosity of the material. Different synthesis routes have been adopted along with thermal analysis techniques, FTIR and image analysis. The resin obtained through partial synthesis process presented the characteristics sought in this work

Physics governs all working patterns of the universe and could not be otherwise in a biological environment. Living things depend directly on laws and physical models to compose their body structure, allow its survival in certain environments, communication between individuals and groups and also to establish a complex sensorial system that allows interaction with the environment that surrounds them. With the advancement of science and technology, new ideas are required, and thus, many researchers began to turn their attention to those systems found in nature, as these systems often present practical solutions and with maximum efficiency. This imitation of biological systems, applied in creating innovative technological resources, is called Biomimetics. To study the biological systems based on physical concepts is essential the creation of models. These allow the distinction of the effects of the issue really essential and may be ignored side effects that do not have an effective participation in the phenomenon being analyzed. In this Work Completion of course will be studied the phenomenon of countercurrent heat exchangers, present in various situations of nature, focusing on their participation in the legs of birds, also the balance of certain birds that are supported on one leg and possible inspiration of these phenomena in the fields of engineering. Also included are videos that allow better understanding of the studied subjects

Volleyball is a sport in which the laterality dominant limb shows superior strength and coordination because of its preferential use. Asymmetrical tendencies during the landing after the jump when striking or blocking actions are predominant for most part of game (ARRUDA; EDUARDO, 2008). Adaptations include imbalance of forces in static and dynamic motions at the knee joint, which increases risk for injury. Also, asymmetries in balance control during jumping and landing associate with a general postural instability that can be observed during static balance tasks. The purpose of this study was to investigate relationship between unequal lower limb strength (muscle imbalance) and postural stability levels in volleyball athletes and non-athletes. Nine female volleyball athletes and 10 active non-athletes participated in this study. Four encouters with participants were scheduled: three encounters in the bodybuilding gymnasium to collect anthropometric measures (weight, height for BMI, thigh circumference, which provided an initial diagnosis about asymmetry), and to perform the isometric strength test (i.e., leg press using a load cell and a force transducer to calculate uni an bilateral strength). The last encounter was in the laboratory where a balance test on a force platform was administered under five test conditions, with three repetitions each: baseline (natural standing position), one-leg standing, right side, with full vision (D_CV), and blindfolded (D_SV), one-leg standing, left side, with full vision (E_CV), and blindfolded (E_SV). The stability levels were evaluated using the path length parameters which was based on the total displacement of the center of pressure (DTCP). . Both groups shows asymmetric strength levels between legs, with better performance for the right leg. An ANOVA three way using the DTCP for the CV condition, legs (D x E), trials (3) with repeated measures for the first two factors and with a between (three)...

In malocclusion studies, may happen not only dental discrepancies but even skeletal discrepancies. In Class III malocclusion can be observed underdeveloped maxilla, mandible protraction or both of them, and, in most of the times associated with a narrow maxilla that causes anterior or posterior crossbites, in one side or in two sides. The aim of this case report is to evaluate the facial profile and occlusal effects of interceptive orthodontics therapy. The treatment with upper arch expansion and maxilla protraction was done in an early age to be effective in the circummaxillary sutural system and to make the orthopedic effect easier. The facial mask used is positioned on two facial points and allows an anterior maxillary replacement. Patients’ compliance is important to reach treatment success, this because using the mask still in this growth and development phase is essential to make the facial and occlusal effects happen. It is important to mention that patients with Angle Class III malocclusion need to be followed till the end of their growth.
