Le parole incrociate. Lucio Dalla e Roberto Roversi: Nascita di un cantautore (1973-1976)

La produzione Dalla-Roversi si iscrive nella cornice storica degli anni’70, quelli che nell'immaginario comune vengono chiamato “anni piombo”. In realtà gli anni ’70, in particolare il Settantasette bolognese, sono molto altro: sono anni di fervore culturale e di sperimentazione del linguaggio, grazie anche alla nascita delle radio libere. La collaborazione tra i due artisti dura tre anni, dal 1973 al 1976, e porterà alla pubblicazione di tre album: Il giorno aveva cinque teste, Anidride solforosa e Automobili. I tre dischi cambieranno la vita di Lucio Dalla, sia dal punto di vista professionale che personale. Nel 1977, infatti, dopo la “rottura” con Roversi, Dalla pubblicherà il suo capolavoro: Come è profondo il mare, primo album scritto e musicato interamente dal cantautore. A questo punto della sua carriera può essere definito tale, in quanto dimostra di essere capace di scrivere testi che possono essere considerati e poetici e di musicarli in maniera consapevole.

Unique paleopathology in a pre-Columbian mummy remnant from Southern Peru--severe cervical rotation trauma with subluxation of the axis as cause of death

We describe the multidisciplinary findings in a pre-Columbian mummy head from Southern Peru (Cahuachi, Nazca civilisation, radiocarbon dating between 120 and 750 AD) of a mature male individual (40-60 years) with the first two vertebrae attached in pathological position. Accordingly, the atlanto-axial transition (C1/C2) was significantly rotated and dislocated at 38° angle associated with a bulging brownish mass that considerably reduced the spinal canal by circa 60%. Using surface microscopy, endoscopy, high-resolution multi-slice computer tomography, paleohistology and immunohistochemistry, we identified an extensive epidural hematoma of the upper cervical spinal canal-extending into the skull cavity-obviously due to a rupture of the left vertebral artery at its transition between atlas and skull base. There were no signs of fractures of the skull or vertebrae. Histological and immunohistochemical examinations clearly identified dura, brain residues and densely packed corpuscular elements that proved to represent fresh epidural hematoma. Subsequent biochemical analysis provided no evidence for pre-mortal cocaine consumption. Stable isotope analysis, however, revealed significant and repeated changes in the nutrition during his last 9 months, suggesting high mobility. Finally, the significant narrowing of the rotational atlanto-axial dislocation and the epidural hematoma probably caused compression of the spinal cord and the medulla oblongata with subsequent respiratory arrest. In conclusion, we suggest that the man died within a short period of time (probably few minutes) in an upright position with the head rotated rapidly to the right side. In paleopathologic literature, trauma to the upper cervical spine has as yet only very rarely been described, and dislocation of the vertebral bodies has not been presented.

Isolated Rosai-Dorfman disease of intracranial meninges

Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) is a non-neoplastic proliferative histiocytic disorder that primarily affects lymph nodes (sinus histiocytosis with massive lymphadenopathy). Primary RDD of the central nervous system is most uncommon. We report on a 35-year-old man with isolated RDD of the meninges overlying the left cerebral hemisphere. Presenting signs and symptoms included severe progressive ipsilateral headaches of 4 months duration, as well as laboratory evidence of mild non-specific systemic inflammatory reaction. On magnetic resonance imaging, the lesion was seen as a contrast-enhancing, plaque-like thickening of the dura mater over the left convexity,without impinging on adjacent bone or cerebral parenchyma. Meningeal biopsy revealed a mixed mononuclear infiltrate dominated by CD68(+), S100(+), CD1a(-) non-Langerhans type histiocytes on a background of fibrosis. Bacteria, in particular mycobacteria, and fungi were excluded with special stains. Extensive clinical workup, encompassing computed tomography of thoracal and abdominal organs, bone marrow biopsy, and bronchoalveolar lavage failed to reveal any extracranial involvement. Laboratory tests for autoimmunity, including C- and P-antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies, antinuclear antibody, and serum rheumatoid factor, were negative. Methylprednisolone therapy induced complete remission of symptoms, with the neuroradiologic status remaining unchanged on follow-up after 2 months. We discuss the complex clinicopathologic differential diagnosis and therapeutic issues of this rare condition. While the correct diagnosis of central nervous system RDD is unlikely to be established without invasive procedures (biopsy), a conservative therapeutic approach may be considered a legitimate option.

Distribution of amyloid precursor protein and amyloid-beta immunoreactivity in DBA/2J glaucomatous mouse retinas

PURPOSE: Evidence suggests that altered metabolism of amyloid precursor protein (APP) may play a role in the pathophysiology of retinal ganglion cell (RGC) death in the etiology of glaucoma. The authors sought to determine the distribution of APP and amyloid-beta (Abeta) in DBA/2J glaucomatous mouse retinas. METHODS: The retinas of 3- and 15-month-old DBA/2J mice and C57/BL-6 mice (control group) were fixed with 4% paraformaldehyde and processed for immunohistochemistry. Antibodies used included a polyclonal antibody to the C terminus of Abeta 40 and a polyclonal antibody to the APP ectodomain. Immunohistochemically stained tissue was graded using light microscopy. Distribution and semiquantitative expression of APP and Abeta in young and old glaucomatous and normal retinas were determined and compared. RESULTS: Strong APP and Abeta immunoreactivity was found in the RGC layer, optic nerve, and pia/dura of old DBA/2J retinas, with considerably higher intensity found in the old compared with the young DBA/2J mice. In contrast to glaucomatous mice, the control group did not show any notable age-related difference. CONCLUSIONS: Disruption of the homeostatic properties of secreted APP with consecutive Abeta cytotoxicity might be a contributing factor of ganglion cell loss in glaucomatous mouse retinas.

The international spine registry SPINE TANGO: status quo and first results

With an official life time of over 5 years, Spine Tango can meanwhile be considered the first international spine registry. In this paper we present an overview of frequency statistics of Spine Tango for demonstrating the genesis of questionnaire development and the constantly increasing activity in the registry. Results from two exemplar studies serve for showing concepts of data analysis applied to a spine registry. Between 2002 and 2006, about 6,000 datasets were submitted by 25 centres. Descriptive analyses were performed for demographic, surgical and follow-up data of three generations of the Spine Tango surgery and follow-up forms. The two exemplar studies used multiple linear regression models to identify potential predictor variables for the occurrence of dura lesions in posterior spinal fusion, and to evaluate which covariates influenced the length of hospital stay. Over the study period there was a rise in median patient age from 52.3 to 58.6 years in the Spine Tango data pool and an increasing percentage of degenerative diseases as main pathology from 59.9 to 71.4%. Posterior decompression was the most frequent surgical measure. About one-third of all patients had documented follow-ups. The complication rate remained below 10%. The exemplar studies identified "centre of intervention" and "number of segments of fusion" as predictors of the occurrence of dura lesions in posterior spinal fusion surgery. Length of hospital stay among patients with posterior fusion was significantly influenced by "centre of intervention", "surgeon credentials", "number of segments of fusion", "age group" and "sex". Data analysis from Spine Tango is possible but complicated by the incompatibility of questionnaire generations 1 and 2 with the more recent generation 3. Although descriptive and also analytic studies at evidence level 2++ can be performed, findings cannot yet be generalised to any specific country or patient population. Current limitations of Spine Tango include the low number and short duration of follow-ups and the lack of sufficiently detailed patient data on subgroup levels. Although the number of participants is steadily growing, no country is yet represented with a sufficient number of hospitals. Nevertheless, the benefits of the project for the whole spine community become increasingly visible.

A rare case of a large spinal meningioma with mediastinal extension and malignant behavior classified histologically as benign

AIM To report a rare case of a spinal WHO grade I meningioma extending through intervertebral foramina C7 to D4 with an extensive mediastinal mass and infiltration of the vertebrae, and to discuss the malignant behavior of a tumor classified as benign. METHODS (Clinical Presentation, Histology, and Imaging): A 54-year-old man suffered from increasing lower back pain with gait difficulties, weakness and numbness of the lower extremities, as well as urge incontinence. CT scan of the thorax and MRI scan of the spine revealed a large prevertebral tumor, which extended to the spinal canal and caused compression of the spinal cord at the levels of C7 to D4 leading to myelopathy with hyperintense signal alteration on T2-weighted MRI images. The signal constellation (T1 with and without contrast, T2, TIR) was highly suspicious for infiltration of vertebrae C7 to D5. Somatostatin receptor SPECT/CT with (111)In-DTPA-D: -Phe-1-octreotide detected a somatostatin receptor-positive mediastinal tumor with infiltration of multiple vertebrae, dura, and intervertebral foramina C7-D4, partially with Krenning score >2. Percutaneous biopsies of the mediastinal mass led to histopathological findings of WHO grade I meningioma of meningothelial subtype. RESULTS (Therapy): C7 to D4 laminoplasty was performed, and the intraspinal, extradural part of the tumor was microsurgically removed. Postoperative stereotactic radiation therapy was done using the volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) technique (RapidArc). No PRRNT with (90)Y-DOTA-TOC was done. CONCLUSIONS Due to the rare incidence and complex presentation of this disease not amenable to complete surgical resection, an individualized treatment approach should be worked out interdisciplinarily. The treatment approach should be based not only on histology but also on clinical and imaging findings. Close clinical and radiological follow-up may be mandatory even for benign tumors.

A bone-thickness map as a guide for bone-anchored port implantation surgery in the temporal bone

The bone-anchored port (BAP) is an investigational implant, which is intended to be fixed on the temporal bone and provide vascular access. There are a number of implants taking advantage of the stability and available room in the temporal bone. These devices range from implantable hearing aids to percutaneous ports. During temporal bone surgery, injuring critical anatomical structures must be avoided. Several methods for computer-assisted temporal bone surgery are reported, which typically add an additional procedure for the patient. We propose a surgical guide in the form of a bone-thickness map displaying anatomical landmarks that can be used for planning of the surgery, and for the intra-operative decision of the implant’s location. The retro-auricular region of the temporal and parietal bone was marked on cone-beam computed tomography scans and tridimensional surfaces displaying the bone thickness were created from this space. We compared this method using a thickness map (n = 10) with conventional surgery without assistance (n = 5) in isolated human anatomical whole head specimens. The use of the thickness map reduced the rate of Dura Mater exposition from 100% to 20% and OPEN ACCESS Materials 2013, 6 5292 suppressed sigmoid sinus exposures. The study shows that a bone-thickness map can be used as a low-complexity method to improve patient’s safety during BAP surgery in the temporal bone.

Topographic bone thickness maps for Bonebridge implantations.

Bonebridge™ (BB) implantation relies on optimal anchoring of the bone-conduction implant in the temporal bone. Preoperative position planning has to account for the available bone thickness minimizing unwanted interference with underlying anatomical structures. This study describes the first clinical experience with a planning method based on topographic bone thickness maps (TBTM) for presigmoid BB implantations. The temporal bone was segmented enabling three-dimensional surface generation. Distances between the external and internal surface were color encoded and mapped to a TBTM. Suitable implant positions were planned with reference to the TBTM. Surgery was performed according to the standard procedure (n = 7). Computation of the TBTM and consecutive implant position planning took 70 min on average for a trained technician. Surgical time for implantations under passive TBTM image guidance was 60 min, on average. The sigmoid sinus (n = 5) and dura mater (n = 1) were exposed, as predicted with the TBTM. Feasibility of the TBTM method was shown for standard presigmoid BB implantations. The projection of three-dimensional bone thickness information into a single topographic map provides the surgeon with an intuitive display of the anatomical situation prior to implantation. Nevertheless, TBTM generation time has to be significantly reduced to simplify integration in clinical routine.

Sensory innervation of the dorsal longitudinal ligament and the meninges in the lumbar spine of the dog

Although intervertebral disc herniation is a well-known disease in dogs, pain management for this condition has remained a challenge. The goal of the present study is to address the lack of information regarding the innervation of anatomical structures within the canine vertebral canal. Immunolabeling was performed with antibodies against protein gene product 9.5, Tuj-1 (neuron-specific class III β-tubulin), calcitonin gene-related peptide, and neuropeptide Y in combination with the lectin from Lycopersicon esculentum as a marker for blood vessels. Staining was indicative of both sensory and sympathetic fibers. Innervation density was the highest in lateral areas, intermediate in dorsal areas, and the lowest in ventral areas. In the dorsal longitudinal ligament (DLL), the highest innervation density was observed in the lateral regions. Innervation was lower at mid-vertebral levels than at intervertebral levels. The presence of sensory and sympathetic fibers in the canine dura and DLL suggests that pain may originate from both these structures. Due to these regional differences in sensory innervation patterns, trauma to intervertebral DLL and lateral dura is expected to be particularly painful. The results ought to provide a better basis for the assessment of medicinal and surgical procedures.

La mediación como un desafío en la elaboración de estrategias de intervención

Este trabajo se propone a partir de interrogatorios que surgieron luego del cursado de la cátedra de Taller III: Abordaje Comunitario y Grupal – Desarrollo Local. Dentro del programa de la materia se toma a la “Mediación" como una temática más del programa, pero no se profundiza sobre ella. Sólo se desarrolla la mediación comunitaria. Creemos que es fundamental encontrar este camino de la mediación frente a que los cambios de la trama social han puesto de manifiesto la necesidad de actualización de la profesión. Además nos interesa la mediación como herramienta metodológica del Trabajo Social para promover conocimiento, juicio crítico y pensamiento complejo. Estamos seguras que el trabajador social debe estar preparado para los cambios, la sociedad se transforma día a día y también los integrantes de la misma, por lo tanto debemos cambiar acompañando el contexto en el que se debe actuar en los días que corren y ajustarse a las necesidades, adoptando estrategias para afrontar los desafíos de esta sociedad cambiante. Una manera de afrontar los conflictos es la "mediación", haciendo de los mismos oportunidades de desarrollo y no de confrontamiento. La Mediación es una herramienta que ayuda a superar los enfrentamientos por el diálogo en la dura posición de defensa de los intereses individuales, intereses comunes que puedan satisfacer.Desterrando la violencia y revalorizando el diálogo. La mediación es herramientas eficaz y de gran ayuda para lograr una convivencia pacífica. La resiliencia, la inteligencia emocional, la exaltación de las virtudes morales que conforman la ética individual, social y profesional han sido las guías que nos han orientado. Retomando esta temática intentamos tomarla como refuerzo de esos conocimientos básicos adquiridos. A partir de la toma de elementos teóricos y metodológicos que permitan investigar la realidad y producir respuestas de conocimiento

Científicos en el Aconcagua

La expedición llega a su etapa definitiva, restan los últimos días para cumplir con la tarea. Comienza la parte más dura hasta los 6 mil 962 metros de altura. Es un ascenso complicado y la montaña impone sus propias leyes. Se verá la travesía hasta la llegada y la instalación, con todas las dificultades que se interpondrán en la escalada. De conseguir este objetivo Argentina seguirá siendo el primer país en el mundo en realizar este tipo de estudios y mediciones sin antecedentes en otros picos del planeta. Ya de regreso, explicarán los avances en cada disciplina y qué se prevé para el futuro.

Enfoque cambiario de la competitividad internacional de la vitivinicultura argentina entre 2000 y 2012

La vitivinicultura argentina se enfrenta a una situación externa dura por primera vez en más de una década, poniéndose en riesgo numerosas fuentes de trabajo y el porvenir de una industria que logró destacarse y hacerse un lugar en un mercado mundial extremadamente competitivo y donde el país no tenía presencia previa. Por otro lado, la apreciación real del peso argentino es señalada como la principal razón de esta crisis que vive el sector. Es necesario saber en profundidad la dinámica del cambio y la interacción de la Argentina tanto con compradores como con competidores para lograr hacer una evaluación certera de la situación actual y una proyección a futuro. Por lo dicho anteriormente, se pretende realizar un trabajo de naturaleza descriptiva y analítica, basado en las estadísticas disponibles en el país y en el mundo sobre la situación de las exportaciones vitivinícolas argentinas entre 2000 y 2012 a partir de un enfoque cambiario.

Polémicas en la periferia : Conservadores y liberales ante la educación normalista

Aunque la doxa reconozca que la educación es uno de los medios para alcanzar el progreso, quiénes educan y cómo se educa son las preguntas que forman parte de las discusiones diarias de las que dan cuenta todas las publicaciones cordobesas de fines del siglo XIX. Apelando a un recurso de gran eficacia un periódico cordobés se pregunta cómo es que la tierra en la que ha tenido lugar la Exposición nacional, a la que se eligió para establecer el Observatorio y cuya tradición en este aspecto se remonta a la época de la colonia, carezca de políticas en educación popular como las implementadas por otros gobiernos provinciales. La incorporación de las maestras normales a la enseñanza desata una dura polémica de la que se hacen eco los diarios locales. Esta polémica pone en evidencia que para una sociedad como la cordobesa, cuyo respeto por las tradiciones es una manera de reconocerse a sí misma, todo aquello que implique innovaciones en su dinámica social es percibida como una amenaza. Esta lógica de la desestabilización explicaría la resistencia a los cambios en el modelo de instrucción pública y la repercusión que tuvo en los escritos de la época.

El tóxico, la pereza y la felicidad

En occidente, el verdadero elogio del trabajo comienza con Hesíodo en Los trabajos y los días. Han transcurrido al menos dos siglos y ya han quedado a un lado los temas clásicos de Homero. El culto del heroísmo, la nobleza del coraje, la gloria en la batalla, la honra de morir en el combate, todavía están vigentes, por supuesto; pero la joven cultura griega ya se ha abierto camino, ha definido algunas de sus fronteras y ahora, Grecia exige de sus habitantes una vida de trabajo. El poema didáctico y campesino de Hesíodo viene a decir, después de Homero, que no sólo de heroísmo vive el hombre o, lo que es aún mejor, que elheroísmo no se encuentra únicamente en los ruidosos combates de los caballeros nobles frente a Troya. También es heroica la lucha tenaz y silenciosa de los trabajadores con la dura tierra. En este sentido, sitúa en lo más alto la estimación del trabajo. Se trata de la areté del trabajador y, su contraparte, la condena de la pereza: Por otra parte, la Odisea de Homero es una hermosa metáfora del retorno de la conciencia occidental sobre sí misma. Las aventuras de Odiseo son, en este sentido, las peligrosas tentaciones que pueden desviar al sujeto de su lógica. Y, como los héroes de todas las novelas que le siguieron, Odiseo se abandona una y otra vez a las aventuras; se deja llevar, se zambulle, se pierde en ellas para reencontrarse. Si se trata de las toxicomanías, la aventura que nos interesa es una de las primeras de la Odisea, el encuentro del héroe con los lotófagos, los comedores de la flor de loto. Aquellos que prueban ese 'florido manjar' están perdidos. Para Hegel, son los animales quienes están fijados a una repetición sin cambio. Puesto que no pueden hacer otra cosa con el objeto que consumirlo directamente, están condenados a lo mismo. La sabiduría humana, en cambio, se encuentra en rechazar la inmediatez; esto es lo que lo hace hombre: el hecho de poder inhibir ese movimiento, poder rechazar el consumo directo del objeto y hacerlo entrar en la dialéctica del intercambio. A diferencia de la joven cultura griega, nuestra época de vieja cultura frita se inclina, cada vez más, por el consumo y, cada vez menos, por la ciudadanía. Cada vez más consumidores y menos ciudadanos, que son tiempos oscuros los nuestros y la felicidad se encuentra en una lata de gaseosa y no en el ágora discutiendo una política pública y mucho menos laborando la tierra. Hoy, más que antes, la cultura exige de nosotros el consumo, y su atontamiento, que hay que comprar un nuevo tacho de basura aunque el viejo tacho, todavía funcione! Es por eso que las toxicomanías se ofrecen como el símbolo privilegiado de nuestra época. En ellas, se lleva hasta las últimas consecuencias un rasgo común de nuestro siglo: el consumo. El toxicómano, desde este punto de vista, es un verdadero fundamentalista del mercado: se ha tomado muy en serio el slogan de que la felicidad se encuentra en los objetos que podemos incorporar. Sean lavarropas automáticos, detergentes biodegradables, pieles de zorros, cocaína o diacepam, solo se trata de ampliar el número de consumidores. Más allá del trabajo, cada vez más alienado de nuestra globalización, pero también más allá de la pereza del consumo directo y tosco de los objetos que la cultura de hoy nos propone, la obra freudiana pareciera disponer de ciertas claves para pensar la felicidad

Algo más que hispanismo-antihispanismo en la polémica por el meridiano : Lengua, nación y mercado a fines de la década de 1920

En 1927, el poeta Guillermo de Torre publica en la revista La Gaceta Literaria de Madrid, una convocatoria a la juventud americana titulada "Madrid, meridiano intelectual de Hispanoamérica". La propuesta generó una polémica que se extendió a todo el continente. En Argentina, los jóvenes de la vanguardia publicaron en la revista Martín Fierro una serie de artículos y cartas que en ese momento fueron interpretados como la respuesta más efusiva y dura de las que produjeron. Esto generó, a su vez, la réplica de los intelectuales españoles. La ponencia indagará algunos textos que participaron de esta discusión no sólo porque en ellos están presentes las tensiones del campo cultural, sino porque problematizan la conexión entre el proceso de autonomía, la conformación de las identidades nacionales y el afianzamiento de un mercado cultural transoceánico.
