We have performed an experiment on near threshold double ionization of helium by 106 eV electron impact with an improved reaction microscope. In this experiment the momenta of three particles after ionization were measured, and the information on correlation of emitted electrons was obtained. Detailed descriptions of the experimental setup and the methods of reconstruction of electron momentum were given. We focused on the analysis of momentum and energy distributions and the angular correlation of the emitted electrons. The experimental results were compared with Wannier's prediction, and it was found that the experimental results showed some characteristic features predicted by Wannier theory.

In order to expand the solid angle for imaging of electrons in ion-atom collisions, we designed a complex Helmholtz coils composed of four single coils. Theoretical simulations were carried out to optimize the arrangement of the coils. The complex is constructed according to the theoretical analysis, and the magnetic fields were measured for interested regions. The measured results show that the relative uniformity of the magnetic fields is +/- 0.6%, which satisfies the requirements of collision experiments.

利用反应显微谱仪对70keV He2+-He转移电离过程中的出射电子进行了成像,研究了出射电子的空间速度分布特征.结果表明:电子主要集中在散射平面内;在散射平面内,电子速度分布介于零与入射离子速度Vp之间(即前向出射)且在散射离子和靶核核间轴处有一极小值,呈现出典型的双峰结构.出射电子的上述分布特征可由出射电子波函数σ振幅和π振幅的干涉进行定性解释,σ振幅和π振幅对出射电子波函数的贡献与碰撞参数相关.在小碰撞参数下,π振幅的贡献更加明显;而在大碰撞参数下,σ振幅的贡献更加显著.

A-type zeolite membranes were successfully synthesized on tubular alpha-Al2O3 supports by secondary growth method with vacuum seeding In the seeding process, a thin, uniform and continuous seeding layer was closely attached to the support surface by the pressure difference between the two sides of the support wall. The effects of seed particle size, suspension concentration, coating pressure difference and coating time on the membrane and its pervaporation properties were investigated. The as-synthesized membranes were characterized by XRD and SEM. The quality of the membranes was evaluated by the pervaporation dehydration of 95 wt. % isopropanol/water mixture at 343 K. High quality A-type zeolite membranes can be reproducibly prepared by the secondary growth method with vacuum seeding under the conditions: seed particle size of 500-1200 nm, suspension concentration of 4-8 g/l, coating pressure difference of 0.0100-0.0250 MPa and coating time of 45-180 s. Plant cell cultures have been suggested as a feasible technology for the production of a myriad of plant-derived metabolites. However, commercial application of plant cell culture has met limited success with only a handful of metabolites produced at the pilot- and commercial-scales. To improve the production of secondary metabolites in plant cell cultures, efforts have been devoted predominantly to the optimization of biosynthetic pathways by both process and genetic engineering approaches. Given that secondary metabolism includes-the synthesis. metabolism and catabolism of endogenous compounds by the specialized proteins, this review intends to draw attention to the manipulation and optimization of post-biosynthetic events that follow the formation of core metabolite structures in biosynthetic pathways. These post-biosynthetic events-the chemical and enzymatic modifications, transport, storage/secretion and catabolism/degradation have been largely unexplored in the past. Potential areas are identified where further research is needed to answer fundamental questions that have implications for advanced bioprocess design. Anthocyanin production by plant cell cultures is used as a case study for this discussion, as it presents a good example of compounds for which there are extensive research publications but still no commercial bioprocess. It is perceived that research on post-biosynthetic processes may lead to future opportunities for significant advances in commercial plant cell cultures. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Inc. La2Zr2O7 (LZ) is a promising thermal barrier coating material for the high-temperature applications, which could be significantly toughened by the BaTiO3 piezoelectric phase incorporated into the matrix. The composites of xBaTiO(3)/(l-x)LZ (x=5, 10, 15, 20 vol%, LZ-x-BaTiO3) were densified by means of high-pressure sintering (HPS) under a pressure of 4.5 GPa at 1450 degrees C for 10 min, by which a high relative density above 93% could be obtained.

A convenient and cost-effective strategy for synthesis of hyperbranched poly(ester-amide)s from commercially available dicarboxylic acids (A(2)) and multihydroxyl secondary amine (CB2) has been developed. By optimizing the conditions of model reactions, the AB(2)-type intermediates were formed dominantly during the initial reaction stage. Without any purification, the AB(2) intermediate was subjected to thermal polycondensation in the absence of any catalyst to prepare the aliphatic and semiaromatic hyperbranched poly(ester-amide)s bearing multi-hydroxyl end-groups.

In this paper, a quantum chemistry method was used to investigate the effect of different sizes of substituted phenanthrolines on absorption, energy transfer, and the electroluminescent performance of a series of Eu(TTA)(3)L (L = [1,10] phenanthroline (Phen), Pyrazino[2,3-f][1,10]phenanthroline (PyPhen), 2-methylprrazino[2,3-f][1,10] phenanthroline(MPP), dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine(DPPz), 11-methyldipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'c]phenazine(MDPz), 11.12-dimethyldipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine(DDPz), and benzo[i]dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (BDPz)) complexes. Absorption spectra calculations show that different sizes of secondary ligands have different effects on transition characters, intensities, and absorption peak positions.

The isothermal and non-isothermal melt-crystallization kinetics of nylon 1212 were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry. Primary and secondary crystallization behaviors were analysed based on different approaches. The results obtained suggested that primary crystallization under isothermal conditions involves three-dimensional spherulite growth initiated by athermal nucleation, while under non-isothermal conditions, the mechanism of primary crystallization is more complex. Secondary crystallization displays a lower-dimensional crystal growth, both in the isothermal and non-isothermal processes. The crystallite morphology of nylon 1212, isothermally crystallized at various temperatures, was observed by polarized optical microscopy. The activation energies of crystallization under isothermal and non-isothermal conditions were also calculated based on different approaches.

A general procedure to determine the absolute configuration of cyclic secondary amines with Mosher's NMR method is demonstrated, with assignment of absolute configuration of isoanabasine as an example. Each Mosher amide can adopt two stable conformations (named rotamers) caused by hindered rotation around amide C-N bond. Via a three-step structural analysis of four rotamers, the absolute configuration of (-)-isoanabasine is deduced to be (R) on the basis of Newman projections, which makes it easy to understand and clarify the application of Mosher's method to cyclic secondary amines. Furthermore, it was observed that there was an unexpected ratio of rotamers of Mosher amide derived from (R)-isoanabasine and (R)-Mosher acid. This phenomenon implied that it is necessary to distinguish the predominant rotamer from the minor one prior to determining the absolute configuration while using this technique.

A method for the quantatitive determination of pethidine in human urine by liquid secondary ion and tandem mass spectrometry is presented. Quantification was carried out by using ketamine as internal standard. It was found that the collision-induced dissociation (CID) spectrum of the [M + H](+) ion of pethidine exhibited a prominent daughter ion at mit 220 and ketamine also yielded the same daughter ion at nit 220, For ((quadrupole)) quantitative analysis, the first quadrupole mass filter was set to transmit mit 220 and a narrow-range magnet scan yielded a spectrum of parents, including mit 238 and 248, corresponding to ketamine and pethidine, respectively. The king cobra neuotoxin CM-11 is a small protein with 72 amino acid residues. After its complete assignments of H-1-NMR resonance's were obtained using various 2D-NMR technologies, including of DQF-COSY, clean-TOCSY AND NOESY, the secondary structure was analysed by studying the various NOEs extracted from the NOESY spectra and the distribution of chemical shifts. The secondary structure was finally determined by MCD as follows: a triple-strand antiparallel beta sheet with I20-W36, R37-A43 and V53--S59 as its beta strands, a short alpha helix formed by W30-G35 and four turns formed by P7-K10, C14-G17, K50-V53 and D61-N64.

X-ray and electrochemical studies of spinel-related manganese chromium oxides, LiCrxMn2-xO4 (0 less-than-or-equal-to x less-than-or-equal-to 1) were carried out in a lithium nonaqueous cell. X-ray diffraction spectra indicated that the substitution of manganese in LiMn2O4 by trivalent transition metals (Cr3+) cause the linear decrease of lattice parameter with the x in the LiCrMn2-xO4. Some discharge-capacity loss was obtained due to the lattice contraction of LiCrMn2-xO4, but it has a better rechargeability than LiMn2O4. Cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance experiments have shown that the excellent rechargeability of LiCrxMn2-xO4 may be attributed to the good reversibility of the change in its crystal structure for the insertion and extraction of lithium ions.
