The purpose of the Strategy is to improve the health and well-being of mothers and babies in Northern Ireland through breastfeeding. It sets out the strategic direction to protect, promote, support and normalise breastfeeding in Northern Ireland for the next ten years.

El projecte final consisteix, en primer lloc, en l’elaboració d’un inventari d’emissions de CO2 causades per la combustió i per processos industrials per a l’àrea de Barcelona per l’any 2008. L’inventari diferencia les emissions segons els tipus d’activitat: trànsit, port, aeroport, focus industrials, singulars i centrals elèctriques i focus domèstics i comercials. A la segona part del projecte es publiquen els resultats de l’inventari a una aplicació web amb software lliure

Entorn virtual d'aprenentatge per una escola de secundària

Implementarem un Entorn Virtual d’Aprenentatge (EVA) per a l'escola Arrels-Blanquerna de Badalona. Instal·larem un Moodle perquè els alumnes puguin reforçar els aprenentatges adquirits a les classes i realitzar activitats proporcionades pel docent. Farem servir les eines que proporciona GoogleApps per l’elaboració i modificació dels diferents documents que es facin servir, i per la comunicació a través de correu electrònic. Per últim, construirem una pàgina web amb el programari Joomla! que serà útil per penjar noticies relacionades amb el projecte eduCAT1x1 i com a punt d’enllaç amb les diferents plataformes.

Executive Summary and Strategy Document (May 2006) The New Strategic Direction has a set of overarching long-term aims to: • Provide accessible and effective treatment and support for people who are consuming alcohol and/or using drugs in a potentially hazardous, harmful or dependent way. • Reduce the level, breadth and depth of alcohol and drug-related harm to users, their families and/or their carers and the wider community. • Increase awareness on all aspects of alcohol and drug-related harm in all settings and for all age groups. • Integrate those policies which contribute to the reduction of alcohol and drug-related harm into all Government Department strategies. • Develop a competent skilled workforce across all sectors that can respond to the complexities of alcohol and drug use and misuse. • Promote opportunities for those under the age of 18 years to develop appropriate skills, attitudes and behaviours to enable them to resist societal pressures to drink alcohol and/or use illicit drugs, with a particular emphasis on those identified as potentially vulnerable. • Reduce the availability of illicit drugs in Northern Ireland åÊ

MIMAS 3.0 is a Multiomics Information Management and Annotation System.

BACKGROUND: DNA sequence integrity, mRNA concentrations and protein-DNA interactions have been subject to genome-wide analyses based on microarrays with ever increasing efficiency and reliability over the past fifteen years. However, very recently novel technologies for Ultra High-Throughput DNA Sequencing (UHTS) have been harnessed to study these phenomena with unprecedented precision. As a consequence, the extensive bioinformatics environment available for array data management, analysis, interpretation and publication must be extended to include these novel sequencing data types. DESCRIPTION: MIMAS was originally conceived as a simple, convenient and local Microarray Information Management and Annotation System focused on GeneChips for expression profiling studies. MIMAS 3.0 enables users to manage data from high-density oligonucleotide SNP Chips, expression arrays (both 3'UTR and tiling) and promoter arrays, BeadArrays as well as UHTS data using MIAME-compliant standardized vocabulary. Importantly, researchers can export data in MAGE-TAB format and upload them to the EBI's ArrayExpress certified data repository using a one-step procedure. CONCLUSION: We have vastly extended the capability of the system such that it processes the data output of six types of GeneChips (Affymetrix), two different BeadArrays for mRNA and miRNA (Illumina) and the Genome Analyzer (a popular Ultra-High Throughput DNA Sequencer, Illumina), without compromising on its flexibility and user-friendliness. MIMAS, appropriately renamed into Multiomics Information Management and Annotation System, is currently used by scientists working in approximately 50 academic laboratories and genomics platforms in Switzerland and France. Aplicación de la ingeniería software sobre la herramienta MATE Analyzer

MATE (Monitoring, Analysis and Tuning Environment) es un proyecto que surge en 2004 como tesis doctoral de Anna Sikora con el propósito de investigar la mejora de rendimiento de aplicaciones paralelas a través de la modificación dinámica. Nuestro proyecto supone un paso adelante en cuestiones de calidad de software y pretende dotar al proyecto MATE de una base de desarrollo sólida de cara a futuras lineas de trabajo. Para ello se hace frente a la problemática desde tres perspectivas: la creación de una metodología de desarrollo (y su aplicación sobre el proyecto existente), la implantación de un entorno de desarrollo de soporte y el desarrollo de nuevas características para favorecer la portabilidad y la usabilidad, entre otros aspectos.

Aplicación de la ingeniería del software sobre la herramienta MATE : application controller

Este proyecto tiene como objetivo crear y aplicar una metodología a una aplicación llamada MATE que fue creada en en el año 2003 por Anna Sikora para su tesis doctoral. Se trata de dotar el proyecto MATE de las herramientas necesarias para garantizar su evolución. La metodología creada consta de la especificación de un entorno de trabajo y una serie de documentos que detallan los procesos relativos al desarrollo de MATE. Además se han creado algunas nuevas características que hacen de MATE una herramienta más completa y cómoda.

MyHits: a new interactive resource for protein annotation and domain identification.

The MyHits web server (http://myhits.isb-sib.ch) is a new integrated service dedicated to the annotation of protein sequences and to the analysis of their domains and signatures. Guest users can use the system anonymously, with full access to (i) standard bioinformatics programs (e.g. PSI-BLAST, ClustalW, T-Coffee, Jalview); (ii) a large number of protein sequence databases, including standard (Swiss-Prot, TrEMBL) and locally developed databases (splice variants); (iii) databases of protein motifs (Prosite, Interpro); (iv) a precomputed list of matches ('hits') between the sequence and motif databases. All databases are updated on a weekly basis and the hit list is kept up to date incrementally. The MyHits server also includes a new collection of tools to generate graphical representations of pairwise and multiple sequence alignments including their annotated features. Free registration enables users to upload their own sequences and motifs to private databases. These are then made available through the same web interface and the same set of analytical tools. Registered users can manage their own sequences and annotations using only web tools and freeze their data in their private database for publication purposes.

Detecting the number of clusters of individuals using the software STRUCTURE: a simulation study.

The identification of genetically homogeneous groups of individuals is a long standing issue in population genetics. A recent Bayesian algorithm implemented in the software STRUCTURE allows the identification of such groups. However, the ability of this algorithm to detect the true number of clusters (K) in a sample of individuals when patterns of dispersal among populations are not homogeneous has not been tested. The goal of this study is to carry out such tests, using various dispersal scenarios from data generated with an individual-based model. We found that in most cases the estimated 'log probability of data' does not provide a correct estimation of the number of clusters, K. However, using an ad hoc statistic DeltaK based on the rate of change in the log probability of data between successive K values, we found that STRUCTURE accurately detects the uppermost hierarchical level of structure for the scenarios we tested. As might be expected, the results are sensitive to the type of genetic marker used (AFLP vs. microsatellite), the number of loci scored, the number of populations sampled, and the number of individuals typed in each sample.
