This work analyses a study on natural ventilation and its relation to the urban legislation versus the building types in an urban fraction of coastal area of Praia do Meio in the city of Natal/RN, approaching the type or types of land use most appropriate to this limited urban fraction. The objective of this study is to analyse the effects of the present legislation as well as the types of buildings in this area on the natural ventilation. This urban fraction was selected because it is one of the sites from where the wind flows into the city of Natal. This research is based on the hypothesis stating that the reduction on the porosity of the urban soil (decrease in the set back/boundary clearance), and an increase in the form (height of the buildings) rise the level of the ventilation gradient, consequently causing a reduction on the wind speed at the lowest part of the buildings. Three-dimensional computational models were used to produce the modes of occupation allowed in the urban fraction within the area under study. A Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software was also used to analyse the modes of land occupation. Following simulation, a statistical assessment was carried out for validation of the hypothesis. It was concluded that the reduction in the soil porosity as a consequence of the rates that defined the minimum boundary clearance between the building and the boundary of the plot (and consequently the set back), as well as the increase in the building form (height of the buildings) caused a reduction in the wind speed, thus creating heat islands

A dificuldade de ação do comando central perante as várias medidas associadas à “Guerra Global ao Terrorismo”, levou à simultânea descentralização e desterritorialização estrutural da al-Qaeda. O comando foi perdendo proeminência. Todavia, para uma efetiva consecução da vitória, a aplicação coletiva da força jihadista deverá ser orquestrada. Quando a ação parte do comando central ainda se garante a transmissão certa da mensagem operacional e estratégica. Com a decapitação das cúpulas e o quase ruir da estrutura central, esta dinâmica tornou-se quase impossível. Ainda assim, a al-Qaeda mantém-se operacional e uma ameaça. Se a orquestração operacional depender de uma estrutura de cadeia de comando e controlo aumenta o grau de vulnerabilidade da organização. Mas a descentralização e a liberalização da jihad global dificultam a coordenação com prioridades estratégicas e impedem ações resultantes de boa aplicação de sinergias, como por exemplo, ataques em larga escala. Este artigo procura compreender de que forma é que a al-Qaeda mantem a uniformidade da ação armada jihadista, não obstante a ausência de uma estrutura que conceba uma doutrina militar.

In the State Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil, the most significant deposits of minerals in the production of granite and pegmatite are Seridó region. Municipalities of Parelhas and Equador are the main responsible for the production of feldspar, quartz, kaolin and granite. The ceramic industries are always in search of competitiveness by investing in new products or improving existing techniques. The stoneware is a type of pottery that stands in the market because it presents technical and aesthetic characteristics superior to other existing products. Characteristics of the raw materials initially obtained with chemical analysis and mineralogical analysis are crucial in getting a product that satisfies the conditions in a manufacturing process and is, in principle, directly related to the firing cycle. This research aimed at developing new formulations for the mass production of ceramic stoneware. The raw materials initially characterized were feldspar, quartz, kaolin and granite. As part of the research was developed at the University of Aveiro, in Portugal, we used two clays used in the production of Portuguese ceramics. The raw material Brazilian and Portuguese and the final product, both in Portugal and Brazil, were analyzed for X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, granulometric analysis, dilatometric analysis, thermal analysis and analysis of scanning electron microscopy (MEV). The specimens prepared at the University of Aveiro (DECV) were sintered at 10000C and 12000C and the specimens prepared in UFRN were sintered at 10000C, 10500C, 11000C, 11500C, 12000C, 12500C and 13000C, but the best results and demonstrating the presence of the mineral mullite were at temperatures of 12000C, 12500C and 13000C. The results showed that the granite waste used may be considered raw material of excellent quality for use in the ceramic industry and coating floors and more accurately by the industry of stoneware. Physical and mechanical tests conducted on samples of the formulations F01 and F02 developed in UFRN showed a water absorption and mechanical strength suitable for the stoneware

The building envelope is the principal mean of interaction between indoors and environment, with direct influence on thermal and energy performance of the building. By intervening in the envelope, with the proposal of specific architectural elements, it is possible to promote the use of passive strategies of conditioning, such as natural ventilation. The cross ventilation is recommended by the NBR 15220-3 as the bioclimatic main strategy for the hot and humid climate of Natal/RN, offering among other benefits, the thermal comfort of occupants. The analysis tools of natural ventilation, on the other hand, cover a variety of techniques, from the simplified calculation methods to computer fluid dynamics, whose limitations are discussed in several papers, but without detailing the problems encountered. In this sense, the present study aims to evaluate the potential of wind catchers, envelope elements used to increase natural ventilation in the building, through CFD simplified simulation. Moreover, it seeks to quantify the limitations encountered during the analysis. For this, the procedure adopted to evaluate the elements implementation and efficiency was the CFD simulation, abbreviation for Computer Fluid Dynamics, with the software DesignBuilder CFD. It was defined a base case, where wind catchers were added with various settings, to compare them with each other and appreciate the differences in flows and air speeds encountered. Initially there has been done sensitivity tests for familiarization with the software and observe simulation patterns, mapping the settings used and simulation time for each case simulated. The results show the limitations encountered during the simulation process, as well as an overview of the efficiency and potential of wind catchers, with the increase of ventilation with the use of catchers, differences in air flow patterns and significant increase in air speeds indoors, besides changes found due to different element geometries. It is considered that the software used can help designers during preliminary analysis in the early stages of design

This research aimed to identify the link between the layout of workspaces in offices and the design strategies for environmental comfort. Strategies surveyed were focused on the thermal, visual and luminic comfort. In this research, visual comfort is related to issues of visual integration within and between the interior and exterior of the building. This is a case study conducted at the administrative headquarters of Centro Regional Nordeste do Instituto de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE-CRN), located in Natal/RN. The methodological strategy used was the Post-Occupancy Evaluation, which combined the survey data on the building (layout of workspaces, bioclimatic strategies adopted in the design, use of these strategies) with some techniques aimed at acquiring qualitative information related to users. The workspace layout is primordial to satisfaction and productivity of workers. Issues such as concentration, communication, privacy, personal identity, density and space efficiency, barriers (access, visual and even ventilation and lighting), among others, are associated with the layout. The environmental comfort is one of the essential elements to maintaining life quality in workplace. Moreover, it is an important factor in user`s perception of the space in which he or she are inserted. Both layout and environmental comfort issues should be collected and analyzed in the establishment phase of the programming step. That way, it is possible to get adequate answers to these questions in subsequent project phases. It was found that changes in the program that occurred over time, especially concerning persons (number and characteristics), resulted in changes in layout, generating high density and inflexible environments. It turns difficult to adjust the furniture to the occupants` requirement, including comfort needs. However, the presence of strategies for environmental quality provides comfort to spaces, ensuring that, even in situations not considered optimal, users perceive the environment in a positive way. It was found that the relationship between environmental comfort and layout takes the following forms: in changing the perception of comfort, depending on the layout of the arrangements; adjustments in layout, due to needs for comfort; and the elevation of user satisfaction and environmental quality due to the presence of strategies comfort even in situations of inadequate layout

Toda actividad laboral lleva implícito un riesgo inherente durante su desarrollo, y a medida aumenta este riesgo se genera mayor inseguridad, lo cual muchas veces no es percibido por los propietarios de las empresas causando una serie de problemas laborales. El problema se agudiza al descubrir que la pequeña empresa salvadoreña no cuenta con suficientes recursos para desarrollar estudios especializados que analicen la gravedad de las consecuencias que están afectando su interior, es por ello que la higiene y seguridad ocupacional deben ocupar un lugar importante dentro de la empresa. La finalidad del presente documento es aportar una herramienta práctica que ayude a identificar los riesgos que se presentan en el desarrollo de las labores que se realizan dentro de los talleres de mecánica automotriz, demostrar la gravedad de las consecuencias que pueden ocasionar en la salud de los empleados y la productividad de los mismos y al mismo tiempo permita cuantificar los beneficios derivados de la inversión en higiene y seguridad ocupacional. Mediante la investigación se determinó que la mayoría de los talleres se encuentran en condiciones físicas desfavorables para un mejor desempeño de las actividades de los trabajadores, para realizar la investigación de campo con el fin de determinar los problemas que tienen los talleres de mecánica automotriz se utilizaron fuentes primarias como; encuestas dirigidas tanto a los propietarios o encargados como a los empleados de los talleres del municipio de Soyapango, así como también se hizo uso de la observación directa; además fuentes secundarias como, libros de texto, trabajos de graduación, leyes, revistas e información de Internet. Entre algunas de las principales conclusiones que se determinaron a través de la investigación, se tuvieron: A pesar de la importancia que tiene el ambiente físico, para los propietarios este aspecto no es de gran relevancia. Como se puede apreciar gran parte de los talleres se encuentran en condiciones físicas desfavorables para un mejor desempeño. Entre las enfermedades que más afectan este sector se encuentran las relacionadas con las afecciones en las vías respiratorias, este cuadro se complica debido a las condiciones físicas existentes en los talleres y los factores derivados de las mismas. La gran mayoría de empleados cuenta con alguna medida de protección personal; sin embargo, estas no son siempre utilizadas, ya que el empleado utiliza de manera inadecuada su propio criterio para su uso, reflejo de ello son los accidentes que suceden con mayor frecuencia, entre los cuales están los golpes, cortadas y quemadas leves Con el fin de mejorar las actuales condiciones de higiene y seguridad dentro de los talleres: Se recomienda a los propietarios mejorar las condiciones físicas ambientales de los talleres. Se recomienda hacer conciencia a los empleados a cerca del uso constante del equipo de protección siempre que lo necesiten, por más sencillas que parezcan las actividades laborales a realizar; además se sugiere concentración y seriedad al momento de realizar actividades en las que puedan resultar con alguna lesión.

The present work studies the natural ventilation and its relationship with the urban standards, which establishes the form of occupation and use of the land in our cities. The method simulates the application of the urban standards of the City Master Plan over the last three years. The simulation takes place in the District of Petrópolis, in the city of Natal , Brazil and analyses the effects of the standards of natural ventilation. The formulated hypothesis states that the reductions in the urban spaces between buildings rises up the vertical profile of ventilation, reducing, therefore, the velocity of the wind at the lower levels of the buildings. To develop the study, occupation models were built, using computerized, three-dimensional models. These occupation models were analyzed using the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) code. The conclusion is that the more we reduce the urban space between buildings, the more we reduce the wind speed in constructed areas, increasing, therefore, the possibility to generate heat islands

La neumonía asociada a la ventilación mecánica (NAVM) es la principal infección nosocomial en las Unidades de Cuidados Intensivos. Esta complicación conlleva un aumento de la mortalidad, de los días de estancia y de los costes hospitalarios. El principal mecanismo fisiopatológico es la aspiración repetitiva de secreciones colonizadas de la orofaringe a la vía aérea inferior asociada a procedimientos y productos sanitarios invasivos. Se han estudiado múltiples medidas preventivas publicadas en guías de práctica clínica y revisiones sistemáticas, que utilizadas de manera conjunta, reducen esta infección nosocomial. La correcta aplicación de estas medidas preventivas depende del nivel de conocimiento de los profesionales sanitarios implicados en la asistencia. Las tasas de neumonía en la Unidad Cardiovascular (UCV) del Hospital Clínico San Carlos se mantienen elevadas hasta el año 2009. La formación a los profesionales de enfermería sobre medios de prevención de neumonía asociada al ventilador es una estrategia para mejorar la realización de las intervenciones de estos profesionales y contribuye a la reducción de esta infección nosocomial. El objetivo principal es valorar el impacto de las sesiones formativas a los profesionales de enfermería en el grado de cumplimiento de las intervenciones para prevenir la NAVM (elevación del cabecero, presión del neumotaponamiento, higiene de la orofaringe, colocación y débito de sondaje nasogástrico, tipo de nutrición, humidificación activa, descontaminación digestiva selectiva y aerosolterapia). Los objetivos secundarios son: - Describir el nivel de conocimiento basal de los profesionales de enfermería. - Analizar el impacto de las sesiones formativas en el nivel de conocimiento teórico adquirido. - Determinar la repercusión de las sesiones formativas en la tasa de NAVM, los días de uso de antibiótico, los días de estancia en la UCV y en hospital y la mortalidad...
