Rhizosphere bacterial communities of potato cultivars evaluated through PCR-DGGE profiles

The objective of this work was to determine the shifts on the PCR-DGGE profiles of bacterial communities associated to the rhizosphere of potato cultivars, in order to generate baseline information for further studies of environmental risk assessment of genetically modified potato plants. A greenhouse experiment was carried out with five potato cultivars (Achat, Bintje, Agata, Monalisa and Asterix), cultivated in pots containing soil from an integrated system for agroecological production. The experiment was conducted in a split plot randomized block design with five cultivars, three sampling periods and five replicates. Rhizosphere samples were collected in three sampling dates during plant development. DNA of rhizosphere microorganisms was extracted, amplified by PCR using bacterial universal primers, and analyzed through DGGE. Shifts on the rhizosphere bacterial communities associated to rhizosphere of different cultivars were related to both cultivar and plant age. Differences among rhizosphere bacterial communities were clearest at the earliest plant age, tending to decrease in later stages. This variation was detected among bacterial communities of the five tested cultivars. The characterization of soil microbial communities can be part of plant breeding programs to be used on studies of environmental risk assessment of genetically modified potatoes.

Sexuality Expression in Long-Term Care

By federal law, individuals residing in long-term care are afforded multiple rights, many of which are relevant to sexuality. These rights include but are not limited to: the rights to privacy, confidentiality, dignity and respect, the right to make independent choices, and the right to choose visitors and meet in a private location. The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman strives to preserve these rights by promoting attitudes of awareness, acceptance, and respect of sexual diversity. Though outcomes to sexually-related situations vary innumerably, as each is different and must be considered independently, the OSLTCO believes a multidisciplinary effort is necessary to develop a thoughtful process from which to draw and support conclusions. It is not the responsibility of the long-term care facility or assisted living program (or a single staff member) to solely determine whether a resident/tenant should or should not be sexually expressive.

Epävarmuuden hallinta ohjausjärjestelmien ja systemaattisen riskienhallinnan avulla

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on selvittää, miten yritykset hallitsevat liiketoimintaan liittyvää epävarmuutta ohjausjärjestelmien ja systemaattisen riskienhallinnan avulla. Ohjausjärjestelmissä keskitytään erityisesti taloudellisen kehityksen ja asetettujen tavoitteiden seurantaan käytettäviin järjestelmiin ja menetelmiin. Tutkimusmenetel-mänä käytetään kvalitatiivista analyysiä ja tutkimuksen empiirisen osan aineisto on kerätty julkisesti saatavilla olevasta informaatiosta. Tutkimuksessa käytetään poikkileikkausaineistoa. Aineisto koostuu 43 yrityksestä ja tiedot aineistoon on kerätty vuonna 2005 julkaistusta informaatiosta. Tutkimustulosten mukaan yritysten taloudellista kehitystä seurattaessa selvästi merkittävimmässä roolissa näyttää olevan budjetti. Budjetin ohella tutkitut yritykset ilmoittavat käyttävänsä eniten rullaavaa ennustamista, tuloskorttia sekä taloudellista lisäarvoa asetettujen tavoitteiden toteutumisen seurantaan. Toimialoja vertailtaessa tutkimustulokset osoittavat, että informaatioteknologiateollisuuden yritykset käyttävät laajempaa informaatiota ja suosivat tarkempaa informaatiota tuottavia ohjaus-menetelmiä, johtuen toimialalla vaikuttavista epävarmuustekijöistä ja nopeasti muuttuvasta liiketoimintaympäristöstä. Kohdeyritykset integroivat riskienhallinnan tyypillisesti johtamisjärjestelmään ja riskienhallinnan avulla tavoitellaan muun muassa asetettujen tavoitteiden saavuttamisen varmistamista.

A partir d"experiències dels Estats Units, es mostra que l"exercici d"aquest dret exigeix la participació tant de metges com de bibliotecaris. Finalment, es reivindica el paper del bibliotecari entès com a gestor de la informació medico-sanitària adreçada a metges, pacients i familiars.

Concepciones de los profesores sobre la enseñanza de las ecuaciones diferenciales a estudiantes de química y biología: estudio de casos

Intending to quest about the conceptions math teachers hold about how to teach Differential Equations to chemistry and biology students, we have devised a research tool which allows us to derive relevant information. We use different means to collect the adequate data related to the qualitative research, targeting the exploration of what teachers «say they do» and what athey do and would like to do». The use of concept maps and a questionnaire, along with a recorded interview, has revealed itself as an accurate means for the appropriate analysis of data, as shown in the case study we hereby include.

El potencial didáctic de la indumentaria en l’ensenyament de les ciencies socials i del patrimoni

La indumentària com a objecte d’anàlisi proporciona informacions importants per a l’estudi de la Historia. Amb tot, la indumentaria proporciona també les bases per a fonamentar una línia didáctica eficient basada en la idea que els vestits son elements que mostren sobretot els efectes dels canvis i de les continuitats. La nostra recerca, iniciada al 2006, en el si del grup de recerca consolidat DIDPATRI (Didàctica del patrimoni, noves tecnologies i museografia comprensiva) de la Universitat de Barcelona explota aquesta línia basada en el potencial de la didàctica de la història social i cultural a través de l’objecte indumentari.

Adaptando Metalib al usuario : la experiencia de la UOC

The implementation of Metalib in UOC's Library was framed within a project centred on the end user. For the adaptation of Metalib to the users' needs and search behaviour, we carried out three tests: - One with students, conducted by a consulting company; - A second one with teachers, carried out by the Library; - The third, with teachers and staff, also was carried out by the Library, after having made some changes resulting from the first and second tests. The tests, made with the software Morae, underlined a number of difficulties to understand the concepts related to metasearching. The tests also showed difficulties in navigating and in managing search results. All the information gathered was used to improve navigation through the interface. The presentation tells about the tests' methodology, the conclusions reached through this experience, and the decisions finally taken by the Library to improve the Metalib interface.

Web Services osana sovellusintegraatiota toiminnanohjausjärjestelmässä

Työssä esitellään Web Services -konseptia ja sovellusintegraatiota, sekä toteutetaan toiminnanohjausjärjestelmästä yrityksen asiakkaalle tietoja välittävään palveluun tuki Web Services -arkkitehtuurille. Palvelun tehtävänä on huolehtia yrityksen ja sen liiketoimintakumppaneiden välisestä XML-pohjaisesta viestiliikenteestä. Työn teoriaosassa perehdytään sovellusintegraatioon ja sen osa-alueisiin, Web Services -konseptiin ja -standardeihin sekä sen kanssa kilpaileviin tekniikoihin. Käytännön osuudessa toteutetaan paperiteollisuusyrityksen tilaus- ja toimitustietoja XML:n avulla lähettävään Java-pohjaiseen järjestelmään tuki SOAP-viesteille, sekä WSDL-kuvaukset palveluille. Työssä tutkitaan Web Services -arkkitehtuurin soveltuvuutta ja implementoinnin helppoutta toimintaohjausjärjestelmään. Tuloksena todetaan Web Services -arkkitehtuurin olevan mielenkiintoinen ja monella tapaa integrointia helpottava tekniikka. Arkkitehtuurin standardien puutteiden ja varhaisten versioiden takia tekniikan todetaan kuitenkin olevan monelta osin riittämätön ja epäkypsä toteuttamaan yritysten kriittisten järjestelmien integrointia.

Asiakastiedon hallinnan kehittäminen terästehtaassa

Tämän tutkimuksen ensisijaisena tavoitteena oli laatia terästehtaan käyttöön kriteeristö päätöksenteon tueksi, miten asiakastiedon hallintaa yrityksessä kehitetään. Kriteeristön aikaansaamiseksi tutkimuksessa kartoitettiin erilaisia esimerkin luonteisia ratkaisuvaihtoehtoja asiakastiedon haltuun ottamiseksi. Nykytilan kartoituksessa ja tietotarvevaatimusten määrittelyssä käytettiin haastattelututkimusta. Haastattelujen tarkoituksena oli myöskin selvittää järjestelmän käyttäjien asettamat vaateet asiakastiedon hallinnalle. Diplomityöhön liittyi kirjallisuustutkimus, jossa tarkasteltiin asiakastiedon merkitystä liiketoiminnalle sekä asiakastiedon hallinnan ja hallintajärjestelmien käsitteitä. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin lisäksi asiakastiedon hallintajärjestelmien valinnassa ja käyttöönotossa huomioitavia seikkoja. Kirjallisuustutkimus on tehty terästehtaan liiketoimintaympäristön näkökulmasta. Diplomityön lopputuloksena terästehtaalle luotiin kriteeristö asiakastiedon hallinnan kehittämispäätösten tueksi. Kriteereissä on huomioitu järjestelmästä riippumattomat, ohjelmiston valinnassa huomioitavat sekä ohjelmiston toimittajaan kohdistuvat vaatimukset.

L'usage de cigarettes électroniques (vapotage) augmente chez les jeunes et les professionnels de la santé se sentent démunis. Ce court article donne quelques informations pratiques. L'usage (vapotage) de cigarettes électroniques (e-cigarettes) est un phénomène relativement récent qui est en train de prendre une ampleur inattendue, surtout chez les jeunes. Bien que les taux de prévalence soient extrêmement variables d'un pays à l'autre, ils sont en net augmentation: tant parmi ceux qui les ont seulement essayées que chez ceux qui les utilisent habituellement, les taux de prévalence ont doublé ou presque triplé en à peine une année. En outre, une proportion notable d'utilisateurs d'e-cigarettes (de 8 à 33% selon les études)n'avaient jamais fumé de cigarettes conventionnelles. Ce phénomène pourrait faire des e-cigarettes la porte d'entrée au tabagisme parmi les jeunes.
