The purpose of the present study was to develop implantable BCNU-toaded poly(ethylene glycol)poly(L-lactic acid) (PEG-PLLA) diblock copolymer fibers for the controlled release of 1,3-bis(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea (BCNU). BCNU was well incorporated and dispersed uniformly in biodegradable PEG-PLLA fibers by using electrospinning method. Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM) images indicated that the BCNU-loaded PEG-PLLA fibers looked uniform and their surfaces were reasonably smooth. Their average diameters were below 1500 nm. The release rate of BCNU from the fiber mats increased with the increase of BCNU loading amount. In vitro cytotoxicity assay showed that the PEG-PLLA fibers themselves did not affect the growth of rat Glioma C6 cells. Antitumor activity of the BCNU-loaded fibers against the cells was kept over the whole experiment process, while that of pristine BCNU disappeared within 48 h. These results strongly suggest that the BCNU/PEG-PLLA fibers have an effect of controlled release of BCNU and are suitable for postoperative chemotherapy of cancers.

SiO2@Gd2MoO6:EU3+ core-shell phosphors were prepared by the sol-gel process. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectra (EDS), transmission electron microscopy ITEM), photoluminescence (PL) spectra as well as kinetic decays were used to characterize the resulting SiO2@Gd2MoO6:Eu3+ core-shell phosphors. The XRD results demonstrate that the Gd2MoO6:Eu3+ layers on the SiO2 spheres begin to crystallize after annealing at 600 degrees C and the crystallinity increases with raising the annealing temperature. The obtained core-shell phosphors have a near perfect spherical shape with narrow size distribution (average size ca. 600 nm), are not agglomerated, and have a smooth surface. The thickness of the Gd2MoO6:Eu3+ shells on the SiO2 cores could be easily tailored by varying the number of deposition cycles (50 nm for four deposition cycles). The Eu3+ shows a strong PL luminescence (dominated by D-5(0)-F-7(2) red emission at 613 nm) under the excitation of 307 nm UV light.

2-(4-Aminophenyl)-5-aminopyrimidine (4) is synthesized via a condensation reaction of vinamidium salts and amidine chloride salts, followed by hydrazine palladium catalyzed reduction. A series of novel homo- and copolyimides containing pyrimidine unit are prepared from the diamine and 1,4-phenylenediamine (PDA) with pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) or 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl tertracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA) via a conventional two-step thermal imidization method. The poly(amic acid) precursors had inherent viscosities of 0.97-4.38 dL/g (c = 0.5 g/dL, in DMAc, 30 degrees C) and all of them could be cast and thermally converted into flexible and tough polyimide films. All of the polyimides showed excellent thermal stability and mechanical properties. The glass transition temperatures of the resulting polyimides are in the range of 307-434 degrees C and the 10% weight loss temperature is in the range of 556-609 degrees C under air. The polyimide films possess strength at break in the range of 185-271 MPa, elongations at break in the range of 6.8-51%, and tensile modulus in the range of 3.5-6.46 GPa. The polymer films are insoluble in common organic solvents, exhibiting high chemical resistance.

Isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of nylon-46 were investigated with differential scanning calorimetry. The equilibrium melting enthalpy and the equilibrium melting temperature of nylon-46 were determined to be 155.58 J/g and 307.10 degreesC, respectively. The isothermal crystallization process was described by the Avrami equation. The lateral surface free energy and the end surface free energy of nylon-46 were calculated to be 8.28 and 138.54 erg/cm(2), respectively. The work of chain folding was determined to be 7.12 kcal/mol. The activation energies were determined to be 568.25 and 337.80 kJ/mol for isothermal and nonisothermal crystallization, respectively. A convenient method was applied to describe the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of nylon-46 by a combination of the Avrami and Ozawa equations.

The new topological indices A(x1)-A(x3) suggested in our laboratories were applied to the study of structure-property relationships between color reagents and their color reactions with yttrium. The topological indices of twenty asymmetrical phosphone bisazo derivatives of chromotropic acid were calculated. The work shows that QSPR can be used as a novel aid to predict the molar absorptivities of color reactions and in the long term to be helpful tool in-color reagent design. Multiple regression analysis and neural network were employed simultaneously in this study. The results demonstrated the feasibility and the effectiveness of the method.

Three title compounds were prepared and the structure of title compound 2 was characterized by IR, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, Sn-119 NMR spectroscopy and the crystal structure of compound 2a was determined by X-ray analysis with the final R indices[I >2 sigma (I)] R-1 = 0.0350 and R-2,R-omega = 0.0888. The crystal of compound 2a belongs to triclinic system, space group P1 with a = 1.0598(6) nm, b = 1.307 4(10) nm, c = 1.378 6(10) nm, alpha = 62.666(7)degrees, beta = 72.530(2)degrees, gamma = 80. 680(2)degrees, V = 1.618 0 nm(3), D-x = 1. 444 g (.) cm(-3), Z = 1, F (000) = 728. The bond length of Sn1-O1 is 0. 2076 nm and Sn1 . . . O2 distance is 0.301 3 nm. The coordination about the tin atom can be considered as a distorted tetrahedral. The detail values of H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, Sn-119 NMR, (2)J(119Sn-1H) and J(119Sn-13C) were obtained. delta (119Sn) = 23.836, (2)J(119Sn-1H) = 88.0 Hz, (1)J(119Sn-13C) = 347.1 Hz, (2)J(119Sn-13C) = 45.6 Hz.

In order to generate catalytic antibodies with glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity, we prepared GSH-S-DNP butyl ester and GSH-S-DNP benzyl ester as the haptens. Two ScFvs that bound specifically to the haptens were selected from the human phage-displayed antibody library. The two ScFv genes were highly homologous, consisting of 786 bps and belonging to the same VH family-DP25. In the premise of maintaining the amino acid sequence, mutated plasmids were constructed by use of the mutated primers in PCR, and they were over-expressed in E. coli. After the active site serine was converted into selenocysteine with the chemical modifying method, we obtained two human catalytic antibodies with GPx activity of 72.2U/mu mol and 28.8U/mu mol, respectively. With the aid of computer mimicking, it can be assumed that the antibodies can form dimers and the mutated selenocysteine residue is located in the binding site. Furthermore, the same Ping-Pong mechanism as the natural GPx was observed when the kinetic behavior of the antibody with the higher activity was studied. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science BY. A new series of side chain liquid crystal polymers based on the backbone of polymethacrylate containing 4-nitroazobenzene and 4-methoxybiphenyl group as side chain mesogen were prepared and characterized, FTIR, H-1 NMR, POM and WAXD were used to study the structure, phase behavior and mesophase texture of this series of SCLC copolymers. The researches show that polymer PM5MPP and copolymer M5MPP/MMEANB are enantiotropic liquid crystalline polymers, but polymer PMMEANB has no liquid crystalline properties. DSC results showed that the thermal stability of the mesophase of this series of copolymers was enhanced by the existence of intermolecular electron donor-acceptor interaction. It was found that the temperature range of the mesophase of the copolymers was broadened with increasing 4-nitroazobenzene units. The focal-conic texture observed by POM indicated that this series of the copolymers possessed the characteristics of smectic liquid crystal.

以 4,4’ 二羟基联苯、4 硝基苯胺、二溴己烷、甲基丙烯酸、氯代乙醇为原料合成了单体甲基丙烯酸[5 (4’ 甲氧基联苯 4 氧基 )戊基 ]酯 (M 5MPP)、4 硝基偶氮苯基甲基 2 甲基丙烯酸酯基乙胺 (MMEANB) ,并完成了单体的聚合和共聚 ,得到了含有非线性光学活性基团 (NLO)的侧链液晶高分子 ,对其结构进行了表征 .结果表明 ,均聚物PM 5MPP及共聚物 (M 5MPP/MMEANB)属双向液晶高分子 ;PMMEANB属于非晶性高分子 .证实了分子间吸电子与给电子基团相互作用有利于提高液晶高分子热稳定性 ,共聚物 (M 5MPP/MMEANB)具有较宽的液晶相温度范围 .

Blends of chromophore-labeled LLDPE and chromophore-labeled PMMA compatibilized by block copolymer of hydrogenated polybutadiene and methyl methacrylate (PHB-b-PMMA) were studied by nonradiative energy transfer (NRET) technique. The ratio of fluorescence intensity of the donor at 336 nm and the acceptor at 408 nm (I-D/I-A) decreased with an increase in block copolymer content. At about 8 wt.-% block copolymer content I-D/I-A reached a minimum value, indicating the interdiffusion of LLDPE chains and PMMA chains in the interface is strongest. The influence of temperature on the interdiffusion of polymer chains in the interface was also examined. Samples quenched in liquid nitrogen from 140 degrees C showed lower energy transfer efficiencies than those annealed from 150 degrees C to room temperature.

Second order nonlinear optical (NLO) tensor coefficients of LiXO3 (X = I, Nb, Ta) type crystals have been evaluated on the basis of the dielectric theory of complex crystals and the modified bond charge model. The current method is capable of calculating single bond contributions to the total second order NLO susceptibility. The tenser values thus calculated agree well with experimental data. By introducing the subformula equation and the concept of the effective charge of one valence electron, we are able to successfully treat such complex crystals as LiXO3 type compounds. In addition, the bond charge expression is modified to a more reasonable form for complex crystals. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.

LaC3n+ (n = 0, 1, 2) clusters have been studied using B3LYP (Becke 3-parameter-Lee-Yang-Parr) density functional method. The basis set is Dunning/ Huzinaga valence double zeta for carbon and [2s2p2d] for lanthanum, denoted LANL1DZ. Four isomers are presented for each cluster; two of them are edge binding isomers with C-2 upsilon symmetry, the other two are Linear chains with C-infinity upsilon symmetry. Meanwhile, two spin states for each isomer, that is, singlet and triplet for LaC3+, doublet and quartet for LaC3 and LaC32+, respectively, are also considered. Geometries, vibrational frequencies, infrared intensities, and other quantities are reported and discussed. The results indicate that at some spin states; the C-2 upsilon symmetry isomers are the dominant structures, while for the other spin states, linear isomers are energetically favored. A new amorphous comblike polymer (CBP) based on methylvinyl ether/maleic anhydride altering copolymer backbone and on oligooxyethylene side chain was synthesized. The dynamic mechanical properties of CBP and its Li salt complexes were investigated by means of DDV-11-EA type viscoelastic spectrometry. Results showed that there were two glass transitions (alpha-transition and beta-transition) in the temperature range from -100 to 100 degrees C. The beta-transition was assigned to oligo-PEO side chains and the temperature of beta-transition increases with increasing Li salt content. The alpha-transition was assigned to the main chain of CBP. The temperature of the alpha-transition (T-alpha) is also dependent upon the Li-salt content, but not monotonic. The value of T-alpha lies between 30-45 degrees C in the Li salt concentration range studied, near room temperature. It was found that the CBP-Li salt complexes showed an unusual dependence of ionic conductivity on Li salt content. There are two peaks in the plot of the ionic conductivity vs. Li salt concentration, which has been ascribed to the movability of the CBP main chain at ambient temperature. The temperature dependence bf the ionic conductivity indicated that the Arrhenius relationship was not obeyed, and the plot of log sigma against 1/(T - T-0) showed the unusual dual VTF behavior when using side chain glass transition temperature (T-beta) as T-0.
