Impact of stocking density on growth and survival rate of mud crab (Scylla serrata Froskal)

A 10-weeks culture trial of mud crab, Scylla serrata in brackish water earthen pond was conducted in different stocking densities. The aim of the experiment was to identify a suitable stocking density for optimum production. There were three treatment as 5000 crab lings/ha, 10000 crab lings/ha and 15000 crab lings/ha of each with three replications. The initial mean weight of crab lings were same (5.5 ± 0.13 g). The experimental month was June '95 to August '95. The size of each pond was 500 m². To maintain good water quality water was exchanged in every spring tide. The salinity during the experiment were 2-18ppt. Prepared feed of about 32% protein consisting fish meal, MOC rice bran and wheat flour was used at 5% of their body weight. Some observations on the performance of 10.5 m mid-water trawl operated off Veraval

The communication presents the results of fishing trials conducted off Veraval with a 10.5 m four-seam unequal paneled mid-water trawl with vertically curved otter boards. The design and structural details of net and otter boards are described in detail. Particulars such as the fish caught during experimentation, horizontal spread of the net as well as towing resistance offered in action are also incorporated.

Wavelength conversion based on an integrated semiconductor optical amplifier/DFB laser at 10 Gb/s with low input power

A study of the relative performance of an integrated semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)/distributed feedback laser wavelength converter that can operate with negative penalties at 10 Gb/s rates is conducted. It is found that reduction of more than 25 times in required input powers are achieved when compared with laser or SOA converters.

10-Gbits/s all-optical 3R regeneration and format conversion using a gain-switched DFB laser

A strain-compensated multiple quantum well device is used as a DFB laser, this has been optimized for low jitter gain switched operation at 10 GHz. The signal is transmitted down 80 km of standard fiber then amplified, filtered and polarization controlled before being injected into a DFB laser. The purpose of this regeneration process is to gain switch the DFB with the extracted clock signal in order to retime the converted signal. This process also simultaneously converts the input NRZ format to an output RZ data to format and results in a signal whose optical power and extinction ratio are considerably improved by the regeneration process.

10-Gbit/s transmission over 300-m standard multimode fiber using multilevel coding and 2-channel WDM

A combination of multilevel coding schemes and simple two-channel wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) at 1300 and 1550 nm was used to transmit an aggregate of 10 Gbit/s over 300 m of multimode fiber that is typical of that employed in current Local Area Networks (LANs). It was shown that this technique could be a simple solution for achieving 10 Gigabit ethernet links over installed multimode fiber building backbones.

Performance of 10 Gbit/s VCSELs operating at 85°C

Oxide-confined VCSELs that are able to operate at modulation speeds of 10 Gbit/s at operating temperatures up to 85°C are demonstrated. This level of performance makes these VCSELs attractive sources for commercial applications in the computer interconnect industry.

Results of the Austrian-Ceylonese hydrobiological mission 1970 of the 1st Zoological Institute of the University of Vienna (Austria) and the Department of Zoology of the Vidyalankara University of Ceylon, Kelaniya. Pt. 10. Freshwater triclads (Turbellaria, Tricladida) from Ceylon

The collection of Triclads from the Austrian-Ceylonese hydrobiological mission originates from 23 streams in the mountains of the south of Sri Lanka. All collected animals are of the Dugesia gonocephala (Dug.) type. Unfortunately the determinable mature animals were very rare in the samples but it seems certain that all the Triclads, found by the mission, belong to Dugesia nannophallus, described by Ball in 1970 after two individuals from Dunhinda, Badulla (Prov. Uva, Sri Lanka).
