O presente trabalho consiste em demonstrar valores referentes ao conforto ambiental de dois modelos construtivos, sendo o primeiro um edifício já executado e o outro em fase de implantação, ambos no Campus Experimental de Itapeva, aplicando alguns conceitos em habitação mais sustentáveis de madeira na região de Itapeva, estado de São Paulo, Brasil. A edificação construída sedia duas salas de aula a partir da tipologia construtiva wood frame, constituída basicamente de paredes autoportantes compostas de ossatura de madeira tratada de pinus.sp, chapas estruturais em OSB, manta de isolamento térmico/acústico e fechamento interno e externo, respectivamente em gesso e sidding (lambris de madeira). A habitação em fase de início de implantação foi idealizada a partir da tipologia construtiva log-home, e atenderá a necessidade de espaço físico para abrigar o Centro Acadêmico e a empresa-júnior “PROMAD”, ambos do curso de Engenharia Industrial Madeireira do Campus Experimental da UNESP/Itapeva. Esta construção foi elaborada a partir de técnicas de baixo impacto ambiental, levando em consideração os resultados de análise térmica obtidos na edificação anterior. Em ambos modelos construtivos foram empregados recursos renováveis abundantes na região, como a madeira de reflorestamento de Pinus e de Eucalipto. Foi acrescentado ainda ao segundo modelo a utilização de resíduos industriais lignocelulósicos, como rolete de laminação e outros materiais locais disponíveis. A metodologia básica empregada para a obtenção de dados sobre o conforto térmico em relação as edificações foi, para o primeiro caso, a coleta de dados de temperatura e umidade utilizando um termo-higrômetro, a sistematização e análise de dados reais obtidos no interior da edificação. A time-and-motion study in wood processing of the Eucalyptus harvester's operational cycle was developed. The objective was to evaluate wood harvesters working under several site conditions. The research includes two kinds of harvesters while processing wood to supply paper and cellulose factories, as follows: a machine with twin tires and other one with large tracks, both connected to a different head harvester models. The forestry species were Eucalyptus saligna Smith and Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden, seven and eight years old, in slope terrains ranging from 0% to 10% degrees, under harvesting systems used by Votorantim and Suzano forestry companies, in São Paulo State, Brazi. Considering all field research, results disclosed that, for some conditions, both machines have shown mathematical correlation between some mechanical wood operation within the processing operational cycle and the saw logs production. All the mathematical correlations were found to express logarithmical models.

In this paper it was evaluated the influence of the relative position of logs on the trees, the type of wood (juvenile and mature wood and pith) and the dimension of sawed wood elements on the velocity of propagation of stress waves into the material on condition. P. taeda L wood (43 years old trees) from Horto Florestal of Manduri (latitude 230 00’ south, longitude 400 19’ west and altitude de 700 m) São Paulo State, Brazil were used, considering its easy growth rings visualization and the better ju regions definition. Six trees were randomly chosen in the plantation. Trees were sawed into 4 logs (2,5 m long each. In each log it was delimited the central board (80mm tick) region and the lateral boards (25mm tick) regions, cons right hand. It were evaluated relation between velocity of stress waves on logs and the correspondent lumber (central and lateral boards), on green condition, on the three main region of the elements (mature wood results obtained revealed the concordance between velocities of stress waves in the material before and after the its mechanical processing. It was also revealed statistical differences between the velocity of stress waves at juvenile wood, mature wood and pith regions. P. taeda L., originária de árvores de plantio do Horto Florestal de SP., com idade aproximada de 43 anos, pela facilidade de identificação dos anéis imento e demarcação das regiões de madeira adulta e madeira juvenil. Foram amostradas 6 árvores distintas, escolhidas ao acaso do talhão selecionado. De cada árvore foram retiradas 4 toras com comprimento de 2,5 m cada. Foram demarcadas nas toras a ha central (8 cm de espessura) e 4 tábuas laterais (espessura comercial de 2,5 cm), sendo duas à esquerda e duas à direita da prancha central. Foram avaliadas as relações existentes entre as velocidades de propagação das ondas de tensão na madeira íntegra (toras) e desdobrada (pranchas e tábuas), na condição de madeira verde, nas três regiões distintas do lenho: medula, madeira adulta e madeira juvenil. A análise comparativa dos resultados revelou a concordância entre as velocidades antes e após o desdobr madeira. This study aimed to establish a calibration model of a TDR equipment to determinate thewood moisture of Grevillea robusta (Cunn.). It was selected alleatory, 11 logs of Grevillea robusta (Cunn.), it was dried in a regulate electric greenhouse at 40o C. During the dry process, the moisture was determinate, periodically and systematically by gravimetric and TDR methods. Through the gravimetric method, moisture vary from 125,88% to 6,62% while the TDR method, the variation was from 119,83% to 5,79%. The best model adjusted to the wood moisture in the determination of the function of relative dielectric constant, using this technique, was the exponential 50,20 132,72 140,27 K U e − = − ⋅ , with a R2 = 0,96, with indicator of trust or performance 0,97 they were classified as very good, according to Camargo and Sentelhas (1997). The correlation between the gravimetric method (reference) and TDR, showed to be equivalent for both methodologies. It was concluded that the TDR can be used to the determination of wood moisture of Grevillea robusta (Cunn.), in a precise and fast way, once it was established it calibration.

Periodically, when necessary, standard documents are revised in order to analyze inconsistencies and to include considerations according new realities verified. In this sense, aiming to quantify the wood moisture content influence on modulus of elasticity, it was applied tension tests parallel to the grain for six specimens of different strength classes of wood, considering nominal moisture of 12, 20, 25, and 30% in Brazil. The present paper examine the adequacy of the current Brazilian standard ABNT NBR7190:1997, in review, about the adoption of a first degree equation to describe the influence of wood moisture content for timber structures design. It was obtained a new first degree equation which leads to statically equivalent estimations when compared with results by ABNT NBR7190:1997 equation. However, as recommendations it could be maintain the current expression for the next text of the referred document review, without prejudice to statistical significance of the estimates.

1024x768 This research aimed to investigate possible differences in values of longitudinal modulus of elasticity for wood species usually employed for structural purposes, as Castanheira (Bertholletia excelsa), Cambará (Erisma uncinatum), Cumaru (Dipteryx odorata), Jatobá (Hymenaea stilbocarpa), Garapa (Apuleia leiocarpa) and Peroba Rosa (Aspidosperma polyneuron), obtained from compression and tension parallel to grain, and static bending tests. Recommendations of the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 7190:1997, Annex B, were followed. Statistical analysis results for the cited properties, had equivalent averages for the six wood species analyzed. This confirms that any of the three tests can be used to obtain the longitudinal elastic modulus and which could avoid the necessity of evaluating stiffness values for wood by more than one kind of mechanical test. This study aimed, with the aid of analysis of variance (ANOVA), to investigate and quantify the influence of moisture ranging between 12% and over 30% (fiber saturation) on the mechanical properties: strength and modulus of elasticity in compression and in tension parallel to grain; modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity in static bending; shear strength parallel to grain considering wood species Ipê (Tabebuia sp) and Angelim Araroba (Vataireopsis araroba). Tests were performed according to the assumptions and calculating methods Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 7190, Anexx B, totalizing 400 tests. Results of ANOVA revealed a significant reduction (16% on average) for mechanical properties wood due to the increase in moisture content from 12% to over 30% (fiber saturation). The same behavior also occurred when assembly containing the two species was considered.

The tests used to obtain the stiffness properties of wood are made with two loading cycles, as defined by the Brazilian standard ABNT NBR 7190 (Design of Timber Structures). However, the possibility of reducing the number of cycles allows decrease the operating time of the machine, resulting in reduced spending on electricity used during the tests. This research aimed to investigate, with the aid of the analysis of variance (ANOVA), the influence of the use of three load cycles to obtain the modulus of elasticity in compression parallel to grain (Ec0), in tensile parallel to the grain (Et0), in bending (Em) and in compression perpendicular to the grain (Ec90) of Angico Preto (Anadenanthera macrocarpa) wood specie. For the number of cycles and stiffness were manufactured 12 samples, totaling 144 specimens. The results of the ANOVA revealed statistical equivalence between the stiffness properties for both load cycle numbers evaluated, indicating that it is possible to carry out the tests with a single charge cycle, allowing savings in time and energy in the operation of the equipment.

The broader knowledge about physical and mechanical properties of wood allows reliable timber structures design. Even little addressed in the literature, in several situations Poisson's ratios are required for the evaluation of stresses acting on structural elements. This study aimed to obtain values of Poisson's ratios (ν), plans Longitudinal-Radial (νLR) and Longitudinal-Tangential (νLT), for species Peroba Rosa (Aspidosperma polyneuron) and Jatobá (Hymenaea courbaril L.). For this purpose, forty samples Peroba Rosa and eight samples of Jatobá were prepared for testing in compression parallel to the grain, following the recommendations of ABNT NBR 7190 standard. The results of means confidence intervals, considered at the level of 5% significance, revealed that the Poisson's ratios νLR e νLT to Peroba Rosa are 0.27 and 0.42, respectively, and 0.25 and 0.43 to Jatobá.

Numerous factors influencing the surface quality of wood after machining, among them we highlight the machining parameters and the properties of the wood. In the analysis of the influence of these factors on machining and in determining the quality measurement systems are used to obtain surface characteristics, these systems are divided into methods of contact and non-contact. The method for mechanical contact performed with the aid of the surface roughness tester is the most valued in the measurement of roughness of wood, however, aiming at a greater agility in these measurements, there is a need to seek alternatives for evaluation of surface quality, and one of these options is to use the forms of indirect measurements of this quality, as for example, the use of noise emission during the machining process. With this, the aim was to analyze the influence of the moisture content of the wood, at different levels, on surface quality of the species Pinus elliottii, determined by the method of mechanical probing move and relate this roughness with the sound emission issued for each class of humidity, during machining. The planning of experiments and statistical analyses were performed with the help of Taguchi method. The specimens were conditioned in greenhouses climatizadoras automatics for obtaining three classes of humidity. Machining tests of wooden pieces were performed on a machining center specific for this type of material. The roughness values were measured by a roughness verifier and the noise emission values were measured by for a measurer sound pressure level. Statistically significant differences were observed, the significance level of 10 %, on roughness and noise emission between the three levels of moisture. It was observed that with the increase in the moisture content occurred an increase of roughness and a reduction in noise emission. Monitoring of surface quality through noise level is an interesting alternative to the method of mechanical contact.

The objective of this study was evaluate the effects of retification® temperatures and times on thickness variation from Eucalyptus grandis timber. Boards from logs of 30-year-old Eucalyptus grandis trees, from São Paulo Forest Institute in Santa Barbara, Brazil, were thermally modified at 180ºC for 2.5 hours, at 200ºC for 3.0 hours and 200ºC for 4.0 hours. The results showed that: (1) the thermally modified wood at 200°C by 3.0 to 4.0 hours showed increased thickness between 0.698 mm and 0.874 mm due to the internal cracks, (2) the thermally modified wood at 180°C by 2.5 hours has a decreased from 0,177 mm in thickness and the absences of internal cracks.
