The present monograph is a historical research of one of the brazilian newspapers in a journalistic heterogeneous effervescence, referring to the proliferation of vehicles on alternative libertarians of the 60/70. The project gives visibility to the Rolling Stone newspaper as the document that disproved their own relevancy in the viability of the music production and counterculture inspired by North America, developing the repercussion of the new behavior of young flower power in the country. The personality of those who were in the journalistic team, the production schema, editorial and proposed tariffs would be in total congruency with the countercultural movement

Este trabalho tem como cidade escolhida a Estância Turística de Barra Bonita, município do centro-oeste paulista, conhecida pelo seu turismo às margens do Rio Tietê. Através dele pretende-se incluir uma nova atração turística na Orla do rio para atrair a atenção de um maior número de visitantes, assim como prolongar sua estadia no município. Será ela: o Memorial do Rio Tietê. Para a resolução do projeto foi trabalhado o conceito de turismo sustentável

Este artículo se centra en el análisis de la novela Memorial do fim: a morte de Machado de Assis (1991), de Haroldo Maranhão. Basándose en las formulaciones teóricas de Linda Hutcheon en su Poética del postmodernismo (1991), analizamos la reelaboración paródica de la biografía de Machado de Assis presente en la novela. Esta práctica paródica, que se caracteriza por su dualidad contradictoria de la continuidad y la transgresión, es la principal característica de la narrativa posmoderna en esta novela de Haroldo Maranhão.

Use of the probability of stone formation (PSF) score to assess stone forming risk and treatment response in a cohort of Brazilian stone formers

Introduction: The aim was to confirm that PSF (probability of stone formation) changed appropriately following medical therapy on recurrent stone formers.Materials and Methods: Data were collected on 26 Brazilian stone-formers. A baseline 24-hour urine collection was performed prior to treatment. Details of the medical treatment initiated for stone-disease were recorded. A PSF calculation was performed on the 24 hour urine sample using the 7 urinary parameters required: voided volume, oxalate, calcium, urate, pH, citrate and magnesium. A repeat 24-hour urine sample was performed for PSF calculation after treatment. Comparison was made between the PSF scores before and during treatment.Results: At baseline, 20 of the 26 patients (77%) had a high PSF score (> 0.5). Of the 26 patients, 17 (65%) showed an overall reduction in their PSF profiles with a medical treatment regimen. Eleven patients (42%) changed from a high risk (PSF > 0.5) to a low risk (PSF < 0.5) and 6 patients reduced their risk score but did not change risk category. Six (23%) patients remained in a high risk category (> 0.5) during both assessments.Conclusions: The PSF score reduced following medical treatment in the majority of patients in this cohort.

O presente trabalho tem por objetivo buscar características que ajudem a definir quem é o público leitor do site da Rolling Stone Brasil, levantando a questão da migração de revistas que surgiram antes da internet para o ciberespaço. Para isso, com base em revisão bibliográfica, retornamos na história para resgatar as origens da versão impressa da publicação e das origens do próprio jornalismo de revista. Com base em uma pesquisa sobre o que se chamou de Perfis Digigraficos e com realização de entrevistas com os editores do site e da revista Rolling Stone Brasil, concluímos que este perfil, aqui chamado de ideal, não está relacionado com idade, gênero e gosto musical

Robert M. Ward Photograph Collection - Accession 502

The Robert M. Ward Photograph Collection consists of approximately 400 prints and 900 negatives from the photographs that he took in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Most of the events and individuals pictured are from the York County, SC area and include the Latta House in York, South Carolina, downtown Rock Hill, parades, baseball, military, aviation, sports, and other York County buildings and scenes. Also included are photographs of Landsford Canal State Park, York Technical College, Winthrop University, Catawba Indian chieftain King Haigler’s memorial, Andrew Jackson State Park, Kings Mountain State Park, Hall of Fame Golfer Sam Sneed's visit to Rock Hill, SC, and Charleston, South Carolina. The collection also contains newspaper articles from the York Observer, dated from 1988 to 1992, which helped to identify some of the people and events in the pictures.

Book Review of Stone by Stone: Exploring Ancient Sites on the Canadian Plains by Liz Bryan

Liz Bryan begins her book with a description of the Canadian Plains:" . .. a voluptuous landscape of hills and valleys and plains, of lakes and tiny twinkling potholes, of flower-filled coulees and vast sand dunes." Her emphasis throughout on the landscape of southern Saskatchewan and Alberta is necessary since the ancient monuments she describes only truly resonate within this setting. Indeed, almost every page of this attractive book is adorned with at least two color images-of scenery, stone features, artifacts, and aboriginal events. She then proceeds to an eclectic overview of the archaeological record of the Plains of Saskatchewan and Alberta, including the earliest human evidence, such as the Clovis points from the Wally's Beach site, Alberta, where the trackways of mammoths, camels, and muskoxen were miraculously and briefly exposed in the late 1990s. There is one perplexing error, however-the attribution of the extinction of the ice age bestiary, about 12,000 years ago, to the meteorite that felled the dinosaurs!

Spatial Relationships Among Young Cercocarpus ledifolius (Curlleaf Mountain Ylahogany)

This study analyzed spatial location patterns of Cercocarpus ledifolius Nutt. (curlleaf mountain mahogany) plants, classified as current-year seedling, established seedling, juvenile, and immature individuals, at a central Nevada study site. Most current-year seedlings were located in mahogany stands in which large, mature individuals had the greatest abundance. These stands had greater litter cover and a thicker layer of litter than areas with few current- year seedlings. Most established young Cercocarpus were located in adjacent Artemisia tridentata ssp. vaseyana (mountain big sagebrush) communities, or in infrequent canopy gaps between relatively few large, mature Cercocarpus. We discuss potential roles of plant litter, root growth characteristics, nurse plants, and herbivory in the establishment and renewal of Cercocarpus communities.

Development of 10 Polymorphic Microsatellite Loci Isolated From The Mountain Beaver, Aplodontia rufa rufa (Rafinesque)

We developed 10 microsatellite markers for the mountain beaver, Aplodontia rufa rufa. In three populations of A. r. rufa, the number of alleles for these loci ranged from monomorphic to nine. Average observed heterozygosities in these populations ranged from 0.29 to 0.60. We also tested previously published markers from the endangered subspecies A. r. nigra in A. r. rufa populations.

Increased Risk of Chronic Wasting Disease in Rocky Mountain Elk Associated With Decreased Magnesium and Increased Manganese in Brain Tissue

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a transmissible spongiform encephalopathy (TSE) of Rocky Mountain elk in North America. Recent studies suggest that tissue and blood mineral levels may be valuable in assessing TSE infection in sheep and cattle. The objectives of this study were to examine baseline levels of copper, manganese, magnesium, zinc, selenium, and molybdenum in the brains of Rocky Mountain elk with differing prion genotypes and to assess the association of mineral levels with CWD infection. Elk with leucine at prion position 132 had significantly lower magnesium levels than elk with 2 copies of methionine. Chronic wasting disease-positive elk had significantly lower magnesium than control elk. The incorporation of manganese levels in addition to magnesium significantly refined explanatory ability, even though manganese alone was not significantly associated with CWD. This study demonstrated that mineral analysis may provide an additional disease correlate for assessing CWD risk, particularly in conjunction with genotype.
