In 1954, it was celebrated the centenary of railways in Brazil. The date refers to the first section of 14.5 km of railway in Brazil (30/04/1854), in Rio de Janeiro, between Mau and Fragoso, of the Petropolis Railway Company (Estrada de Ferro Petrpolis). Some of the texts and commemorative events indicated the symbolic values that the railroad took in the Brazilian history. Firstly, on 30.04.1954, the railway section Mau-Fragoso and steam locomotive Baroness (the first used on the track) were declared national monuments(Decree No. 35,447-A, April 30, 1954). Secondly, some entities (Clube de Engenharia, Conselho Nacional de Geografia, Ministrio da Viao e Obras Pblicas) highlighted the importance of celebrating the Brazilian railway history and its historical significance, economic and geographical. For this, some events was occurred (the commemoration of one hundred years in Rio de Janeiro and Recife on 30.04.1954). Among the texts wrought produced, we highlight the text I Centenary of Brazilian Railroad (1954), released by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatstica), and the National Council of Geography (Conselho Nacional de Geografia). The emphasis given to the railway refersto the geographical perspective (territorial expansion), but also makes mention of the Barode Mau, the founder of Petropolis Railway Company. We aim to understand the celebration from evocations about the Brazilian railroad history and some ideas that is assigned to the railway (and the Barode Mau), and railway heritage (the track and the locomotive Baroneza). On basis of this review will seek to understand how it was reconceived the railroad memory in view of these values and material elements.

Two experiments (E) were carried out with the objective of evaluating the effects of fumaric acid and carbo-amino-fosfo-quelato of calcium diets of weaned pigs on performance (E1) and intestinal morphology (E2). A total of 96 and 32 pigs with initial mean weights of 5,66 kg 0,44kg and 5,34 0,45kg , in E1 and in E2, were used respectively. Randomized block designs were used in both experiments, with a 2 X 2 factorial arrangement in E1 and a 2 X 2 X 2 factorial arrangement in E2. No interaction between acidifier, source of calcium and phosphorus were found for the variables studied in the two experiments. No treatment effects were found on daily feed intake in evaluating periods. Feed conversion from 0 to 17 days was better (P<0.05) when inorganic sources of Ca and P were fed; however, no difference was observed in other periods. The averages of villus height (AV), crypt depth (PC), AV: PC relationship and mucous membrane of the duodenum and of the jejunum didnt differ among treatments. Considering the total nursery period, no benefit was found in using an acidifier, however the carbo-amino-fosfo-quelato of calcium studied may replace the inorganic sources in the diets of piglets, with no damage to performance and to intestinal morphology.

O presente trabalho busca apresentar um mtodo de balanceamento de rao (estudo de caso) que oferea as exigncias necessrias para o desenvolvimento de animais ruminantes, com diversas fontes de protenas ao custo mnimo de produo para os produtores. Deste modo, o confinamento tem surgido como uma importante ferramenta para o pecuarista, que deseja ganhar em escala no seu sistema de produo e qualidade em seus produtos. Assim, a adoo de tcnicas de manejo e alimentao que viabilizem a produo de carnes de melhor qualidade torna-se muito importante para colocar o setor pecurio em situao de igualdade com os grandes pases produtores de carne. Para a realizao deste trabalho, foi feito um levantamento bibliogrfico e uma pesquisa de campo com o administrador de uma fazenda no municpio de Presidente Prudente-SP. Atravs dos resultados obtidos, pode-se verificar que neste estabelecimento tm diminudo seus lucros, principalmente em virtude dos altos custos da alimentao.
